  1. Thanks CatBrat, Yeah sure thing, but they have to hatch first. There not anything spiecal , slitely moteled back and alot flater then the commen b/n.
  2. Well it does'nt rain it poors. My sjd's are spawning like mad , last night i noticed my baby cockatoo apisto's had babys them selves and today the bristle nose imported as Ancistrus hoplogenys have spawn. Rob has any one breed these before ? the male's nest is a hole in a medium piece of drift wood . I feed them tetramin flake ( the rich mix) frozen blood worms and frozen zucchine. ther's about 20 to 30 brite orange eggs all the way down the bottem of the hole . as there is 5 of this type of b/n in the tank i don't know which female bred . sorry I don't have a camera to take a pic of the b/n's, but this is the same type of bristle nose that modren angel had a post on in the catfish forum.
  3. Thanks Wok and Shelley, the thing is as far as i know i'm the only one with them. And , I now have 75 firtile eggs with another 72 collected today they just keep on laying more and more everday.
  4. Just thought I would up date you about the 2 SJD fry . Well it's been 3 days short of 1 month and they are all ready over 25mm long , which is quit amazing really I felt notho's grow fast ! No colours yet so I will up date you again when that happens, I have know idea when that will be tho. Oh , have been spawning the SJD'S for 3 days now, water conditions as last post . I've got 47 fertile eggs , way better then last time and another 30 I collected today but will have to wait 24 hours to be sure of there fertilaty. :-?
  5. Hitchi2000 you will know your female is ready when the ovel duct is boulging, it looks like a white eggs is hanging out but its just the vent. water fleas are great for bettas but do feed other foods too, frozen blood worms , mozzy rigglers and bbs are all good conditioners. she will become ready quickly if there is food in front of her from lights on through till lights out.this is why live food can really pay off. Are you a member of a club and fnzas, if you are there is a video by Bill Hodges I think , it's been a while . any way he breed bettas by the hundred all differant colours . I found it very informative and you could see what HE did.
  6. i would take it as a complament that you are providing just the right cnditions, your fish are healthy and being feed enough that they can invest energy into producing lots of eggs.
  7. dan_from_nz, are you shore there is any thing else you would like to know? I'm sorry but all your ? are very good ones . there are a few people that could talk to you for hours answering them . 8) instead you may want to contact your local book shop and ask for killifish A Complete Pet Owner's Manual ISBN 0 8120-4475-4 This is a very comperhensive manual and not for just beginers either .It's full of the answers to your questions, how to breed and lots more. i think i payed $15.00 for my copy, good value. hope this has helped.

  13. you know i'm not sure i don't try to breed my young fish . I get more eggs from the big ones. I would think 40 to 50mm at a gess, but the eggs will be small to begin with and in low numbers All you need is two before you start breeding 1 male and 1 female  how long does it takes for the eggs to hatch, it depends on the temp ruffle 10 to 14 days
  14. yeah i checked didnt know what spe. you were talking about . thats what i ment, thank for the heads up a lot of the s/americans have been reclassafied

  17. for thoughs in the nzka who may be interested my first Fun. sjoestedi egg hatch today . yes it's only 1 out of 5 but there young adults and still relatively infertile. the fish have to be 10 months to a year old before full fertility kicks in. i plain to spawn them again in two weeks, using water at 10GH and a ph 6.8 . will post again in three weeks to let you know how i get on.
  18. Hi Shiuh, the gold panchax is very easy to sex and a delight to keep. the males are a stuning greeny gold with pointed tips on the dorsel and anal fins. were as the female is grey with a very lite irradesent bronze sheen to her and rounded fins. they are very easy to breed the hardest part is getting enough food into them as they are PIGS . when my lineatus are properly condtioned i can get 50 eggs per female a day no trouble at all. you wont have any problem seeing the eggs as they are very large. the only thing you must watch ,is small fish in there tank, neons and alike in a blink of an eye they become breakfast !. Aplicheilus lineatus is an excellent killie to start with. good luck.
  19. hi Squrrelfish hope this helps. 3 is corydoras trilliniatus, 5 from left to right is rummy nose tetra, flame tetra, platy or swordtails and cardinal tetras

    Breeding tanks

There have been alot of replys to your post saying it wont work and there kinda right the water draining from your tank WILL suck all the air from you over flow and syphon your tank as the pump is running. my breeding tank over flows are set out much the same as yours. to avoid a syphon and keep the drains as you want you need to have the over flow open to the air. it is differcult for me to explain quickly what i mean, some one else may pick this up who is more articulate than i.

Eon , it is a BIG NO NO , MAF will not like you!. fish eggs are prohibated ,it is not posable to identafy the species and then there is the matter of quarentine too.
