  1. It sounds like it but couldn't be sure. Keep feeding bbs and in only a short time you will know as they grow and colour up.
  2. Yes an aquarium light will be fine. Alan your fry were almost fish mate = many weeks old. The blue line does form first hence why WCMM were often called poor mans neon as the same applys to them.
  3. Don't be afraid to use a brighter light. Could you see the eggs?? if you could you should be able to see the fry.
  4. baby neons look like any other eggs laying fish prior to colour forming (a fine slither of glass) whether it be a Betta, Danio, barbs etc. That is the are like the picture above posted by Chazza404. The "thing" your've mentioned does not sound like fish fry to me, however it can be hard to see fry sometimes. One trick used is to feed very small amounts of bbs and look in the tank 5 - 10 min later, the belly's of the fry will be bright orange with bbs.
  5. Yes, but not essential for neons. The water must simply be very soft 5ppm GH or less for best results, above 8ppm you may as well not waste your time.
  6. Hi Kiwi Girl, I'm a bit slow on this one. The reason for blacking out the tank is the eggs and pre-free swim fry are so sensitive to light it can/will kill them, however once the fry are at free swimming stage it is fine to remove covers 4 to 5 days depending on temp. The fry of most tetra's have large mouths for their size and are able to take new hatched bbs as soon as they're at the free swim stage. If feed well with plenty of small daily water changes (taking them from rain to tap water, to avoid neon disease) they will be fully coloured somewhere around 4-6 weeks and be 1cm long. An old timer who was breeding neons many many moons ago said although they do not pair up like cichlid some fish breed better to gether then others - something to do with compatibility and to think about if spawns are poor. 100 - 120 fry per spawn is considered excellent compared to say black neons @ 500 fry and flame tetra @ 900 fry. Good luck

    Filtration

For my killi tank 300x200x200 I make my own filters. Get some thick sponge cut into blocks 50-70mmsq x 100mmH and silicone firmly to 5mm class. Cut a hole down the middle place a tube that is big enough to have an air tube placed in side it and thats it, they work very well even better then some of the small sponge filters that are available.
  8. - How long until they start to form? >> This depends on how old the eggs really are and the temp, as Alan said they should hatch in 10-14 days from being layed. - How often will the trio spawn if left together? All the time non stop. The amount of eggs you will get depends on how well you feed the females. - A question from my partner was How big do they get? we have golden Australe and Gardneri Nigeriatum. >>Golden Australe around 4-5cm Gardneri Nigeriatum around 6cm

  10. Yes, they can get up to 12cm evilknieval69.
  11. It's not there length but there width, they only get 1.5-2cm round and are soft bodied making them easy to CHOMP like a fat worm.
  12. Hi fishy_t, The blue gularis will live for between 2 and 2.5 years. But I would not put them with a bichir as king killies only get fat enough to be a good meal IMHO.
  13. Sounds like a trip down to the hardware shop to get another step stool - 1 for each fish room.
  14. Your chances are not that good really. It is recommended to buy between 8 and 10 for a 99% chance of at least 1 pair. In saying that you never know, if you can once the Angels have doubled in size ( feed them well it wont take long ) post side on pic's for sexing. Good luck
  15. You can use bamboo as well, the cave what ever you use should be closed at 1 end.
  16. Yeah it may be ok, it depends on how fast it is moving the water.
  17. That’s an interesting question you ask SilverBlade86. There is a technical answer. Although common B/N and GBA's will breed in the open they do prefer to breed in a closed cave with a small entrance. I successfully breed adult common, adult GBA and 2/3 grown albino B/N in upside down 11cm - 15cm terracotta pots. The trick is the hole chipped (with a pair of pliers) in the lid of the pot. It should be large enough to fit your breeder male ( as Blue and Kim said ) and no more, the idea is the male will be able to block access to the inside of the cave with his body. So the size of the entrance depends on the size of your fish. These are the measurement of the entrances that works with my fish 2/3 albino 3.5 cm wide - 1.5cm high Adult common B/N 4cm wide - 1.5cm high " GBA 4.5cm wide - 2cm high Here's a pic to give you an idea of what I’m talking about but not all of the caves is a nice as this - some are more rectangle in shape.

    Time Zone

 I forgot AGAIN. Thanks for the reminder.
  19. You only need a sponge filter in the tank. What kind of filter do you have?
  20. That used to be true with a product called "kibble", don't know about now days.
  21. Not me, but they are said to be very good. I would buy them if it weren't for the price, I'd need to spend to much money to put 1 in all my tanks.
  22. No the fry are unlikely to survive as the adults like little wriggling live foods. I tell ya what - use your gravel siphon on the stones, just siphon the top layer don't dig deep and filter the water through a fine net before it goes into a bucket( put the water back in the tank ). If there's a bit of muck in there rinse it from 1 container to another using fresh tank water and check the contents of the net, you may be surprised.
  23. GOOD info, thanks. What size water change were you doing and were they at tank temp or just out of the tap @ around 15-20C. Oh is there anything else you think may have triggered the spawning? And are you going to try to spawn them deliberately.
  24. Do you have them in a breeding set up?? If not you will be missing out as they will be breeding, even if they're in a bare bottom tank with no mops.
  25. Nice killi, wish we had them here, but by the looks of it we never will.
