  1. I don't mean to pop your balloon. but keep an eye in your tank, if it was blue green it will be back and growing fast.
  2. You have empty tanks I wish I had some  1 of my 1/2 black guppies gave birth today and had no tank to put them in - out comes 1 of tho's ugly guppy nets.
  3. If the glass doesn't cut, buy the glass and make it yourself. You should save some $$. That's what I do depending on tank size. I have just ordered glass for 4 X, 600x150x150mm(with lids) it's going to cost $60.00 and I all ready have the glue. I'll be able to Knox them up in an hour with time to spare. Built upside down for speed Glue sides together then bead the corners, place base on top, wait over night turn over and place a bead around the bottom smooth and your done.
  4. That size maybe just a little to small, I would have though 30x200x200 to be the smallest for the pencil. Go for 600x150x150mm, this way you have options. The 30x15x15cm is perfect for CPD's.
  5. Interesting, never seen an albino whiptail before. I think there all the same species.
  6. Let them grow, the males will be slender and the females will be much deeper bodied.
  7. Thanks for that. Some of the albino's are platinum, some appear not to carry it. I am using a clear female devoid of any trace of the platinum gene, so we will see in the f1's what happens.
  8. I have no flies at present, but I left a window open last night and there are little moths all over the ceiling :bounce: :bounce: more fish food
  9. I suspect many are not fixed strains. I personally have examples of:- Snow platinum albino with and with out the albino gold gene Snakeskin albino " bar gene blond German yellow tux Platinum Neon blue tux Platinum Neon green tux Green diamond Double swordtail 1/2 black and the genes to create full platinum, super delta/fantail, swallowtail and others but non are fixed and only virgin albino unfix females are available. Do you want something to work on? Do you have the spare tanks to do it The work goes on.
  10. Yes you did miss 1. Out of the neon blue tuxedo have come neon green tuxedo due to the green diamond female used to improve the tail. Does neon mean full platinum - because the green tuxedo's are. I'm going to attempt to brake it out of the tuxedo using the albino's I have. Do you think I'm on the right track? I think the fantail gene may be here too, will find out on the 2 generation.
  11. Yes Alanmin is right, best way to sex them is in the chest part of the body. I can't remember which is which but 1 has a curved chest the other is more angled. This works when they are about 20-30mm in the body right through to full sized adults. Go to a local pet shop with plenty of Angels and test for yourself.

They come from areas close to the sea = cooler temps prefered. It's a catch 22 question with temp and growth. If they are hatched at hotter they may hatch quicker, but the fry will burn more energy just staying alive rather then transferring that energy in to growth, so will they grow faster at lower temps not necessary but you will get more growth with less food.

Temp can for some killi species but I have never experienced it with australe. What temp are they by the way? Ideal temp is around 21C. As for feeding that sounds fine.
  15. Yes, good Idea NZKA members. The more imported stock we get to work with the better.
  16. Formally Aplocheilichthys Normani. Common name:- Norman's lampeye http://filaman.ifm-geomar.de/Summary/sp ... me=normani For the slow these have recently come into the country. They're not the most attractive species but quit striking due to the intense "lampeye", the pic that comes with the link is accurate. A few NZKA members have got there hands on these little guys and are breeding them. I collected 6 eggs today. You may think 6 eggs are not many but if you saw the size of the egg to the fish that produced it your eyes would water, the egg is probably 1-1.5mm in diameter for a 20mm fish. I have them for now in a bare bottom tank(painted black) with a few 3 week old guppies. I'm feeding the Lampeye's crumble, a good flake, bbs and de-cap bs. To get them spawning I use an old killi-keepers trick - you will like it, yes I'm going to tell you, are you ready to receive this special info, ARE YOU SURE YOUR READY. Ok here I go..... I placed a spawning mop in the tank. I know you say ""what"", But that's all killis need to spawn most times if feed well enough. You now have all the info you need to spawn these little beauties. I thought I'd get this thread going so I hope the other members with them can add there experience with there new acquisitions.
  17. Although I did not do the illegal importing I did have them for a while. There babies are huge for the size of the adult( an adult of 35mm can give birth to a 12mm baby) and often come out tail first. There not that colourful, the red was dull / washed out with guppy grey bodys.
  18. Billaney Google>>>>> Xenotoca = Goodeid ( yes I have the correct spelling )
  19. There were some red tailed Goodea's in the country 10-12 years ago but they were illegally imported and all were destroyed! They are not on the allowed list and never were.
  20. What fry are you wanting it for? All of my fry get bbs(as I believe they do better on it), but some fry like nob nose whip-tails, bristle nose can't get the swimming stuff easily so I add decap to there diet (and baby guppies as they will need feeding when I'm at work) Hope your happy with the decap Ryan.

 2 WEEKS Mate, give them a chance. They are not the fastest killies( that's the annual species), if you keep the feeding up and keep the water sweet they should be sexing out by 1.5 months.

From memory(which is a little rusty)about 1-1.5cm. You will see the colour show first on the males anal fin(the deep brown strip displays first). If your female fry show this pattern ditch them as they are not supposed to have it, unfortunately it does appear from time to time.
