    20,000k bulbs

Been using them for a month now. The corals are growing well but anemones, and corals don't have the colours they get under the 14,000k's I think I change to the 14,000k's again soon.
  2. I just tip the brine shrimp and egg shells all in together, haven't noticed any difference.

    Save.....

Sitting on the couch with my wife watching TV.. Then saying nothing leaped up ran across the room an saved my little fluro bubble tip floating towards the nano. about an inch away when I gradded him. My wife got such a fright... I had seen my little anemone moving around and had feed him, in his attempt to eat and move he must have lost his footing.... (pitty I didn'y catch my rose when it counted....) Close to his doom.....
  4. The best nano I have ever seen in action, was Brianemones 88 litre tank. Two clowns anemone, sps, and soft corals, shrimp etc... single metal halide, two tiny flow pumps and hang on back skimmer a weirpro and heater and rock ($400 did the trick). Very effective. Just would have put an MCE600 deltec on the back, (just incase of future upgrades and because you can run filter media in it, or the new smaller deltec) Have a look at his pictures in saltwater tanks. I sometimes think thats what I will end up doing one day. Espically when I have kids and they make me poor....
  5. love the tank. I really like what people are doing with their red sea maxs. Still not sure why there are alot of people modifying them.... apart from adding a nano.. The seem to work fine standard. Thats why people buy them...

    Tank build

that coral you cannot remember the name looks like a torch coral.
  7. when putting po4 remover in your deltec mce600. just make sure the bag doesn't float up with the current and block the water return otherwise it will overflow.. speaking from experience.. cheers ru

    Great fish show

isn't that the same skimmer you are using slapper
  9. ammonia: Nil nitrites: Nil Nitrates 20 ppm all back to normal. getting a little more rock in the weekend, and extra nano... also fix the old tiny tiny things that bug me. Otherwise the planning has paid off huge. All things work extremely well.
  10. here are some more. My current livestock is. 1 Blue Tang 1 Yellow Tang 4 blue chromis 2 pink clowns 2 percula clowns (one true one false ""they can't tell the difference) 1 Coral Beauty 1 Copperband (9 months so far, will get a pic of him feeding from my hands) 3 anemones (all bubble tips) 1 serpent star 1 clam 25-20 soft, LPS's and SPS's 1 cleaner shrimp (3 years old), I need to get him a new friend.. (also the hand rail is an excellent addition, as is the stall $35 from bunnings, and the RCD has already saved me when setting up the tank....... (every tank should have one..... ) more photos
  11. Well after months of planning and seven days of building this is it.............................................. Sorry it reads like scrabbled eggs. But My wife is sick of me spending the week on the tank, and now this.. (after all she has beeen so supportive) 500 litre tank. 130cm * 60cm * 60cm (10 mm glass) eheim 1260 return pump twin 150 watt light unit with built in twin T5's and two moonlight LEDs sea swirl return, for random water flow. 3 * tunze nano's 6045's on timers (one still to come) tunze auto top up. (with calcium mixing unit to come) four plug surge protector 3*6 plug multi switches Deltec MCE600 skimmer Sump with designed to run carbon, phos remover, and filter wool (slappers order one as well) 2 * 300 watt jager heaters plus other assorted stuff. Sump and Plumbing Designed for no flooding if power trips (tested as well). 25 mm plumbing overflow (with doorso) handles the 2400 litres per hour from the eheim as planned. 20mm return from the ehiem through the sea swirl. The sump is perfect and fits the skimmer perectly leaving room for the eventual calcium reactor... (that will have to be a deltec naturally) Also notice its black around the sump, thats the rubber paint to stop moisture damaging the tank. Also my baffel design allows me to run filter wool, carbon, and phos remover without any troubles, (also to add my homemade nitrite remover and calcium auto mixer in the next couple of weeks) Tank and Stand This time I went for solid wood. (Pine) Thanks to swampy for adding extra supports to it so I felt comfortable that it would last the test of time. Tank 10mm glass, with square overflow, as the triangle overflow always annoys me when fiddling with plumbing, As well as an almost accident two years ago when I almost fell off a stool with my arm trapped down near the overflow, this overflow elimates that risk. Flow and Lighting The new unit from Australia is the best light combo I have come across. The twin metal halides, with twin T5's and built in twin moonlight LEDS is common sense.... This unit is awesome and in hind sight I would have imported heaps to sell on. The flow is from 3* 6045 nanos on timers, as the 6055's are to much. The nanos hands down whip the seios,or any other flow pump for that matter. The magnets to secure them have saved so much time and effort, and damage that my old flow pumps did to my corals. Heaters and cooling 2 jager heaters 300 watts each, as I noticed in winter my tanks temperature drops considerably even when running a single 300watt heater. Also the precision is amazing. Both heaters switch on at exactly the same time..... The corals and fish all made the change ok even with nitrites at about 75ppm when transfering stock over. (The decision was made to move them after 3 days in holding, and the water started to get smelly) Cannot wait until the corals colour up again, and anemones settle down, boths clowns have their own anemones now, But get confused at times as the are identical. (from a split 3 months ago). I managed to get a small fluro bubble tip anemone for the time being to see if it colours up but I am still saving to try another rose bubble. Still stuff to finish and more rock to add but I'll keep up up dated on this post....
  12. now settling around ammonia 0.5 nitrite back to 0.1 nitrates back to 60ppm
  13. some live rock didn't enjoy the move midnight trip to the beach for another 100 litres
  14. started moving the stock in today. corals but not anemones and starfish and clam. ammonia 1.0 nitrite 1.0 nitrate 80ppm will this kill any live stock. I'm not sure how to reduce them in a hurry. cheers ru
  15. I disagree cookie Once they start to over populate they are an eyesore, when they are all over the front glass. And although I haven't waited till my tank crashed because of them I'm sure knowone here would actually like to be a test case.
  16. I looked at a new green galaxy coral and anemone from the local pet store and hey. Bloody flat worms on it... time for flat worm exit this weekend. I'll have to go tell them before they pollute the local mariners tanks. Cheers ru

    sumps

hey bro, have a look at my new sump design on my thread da 500 litre. I run filter wool, phosphate remover, and carbon using the gravity flow with huge proven success I am now adding a nitrate reactor to this design if your interested it should be complete in a week or so. I also have live rock, and sand, and a light to run at night. Sump also holds my skimmer, and eventually a calcium reactor. The flow from my return pump runs everything (apart from skimmer and light of course   ) Cheers Ru

yip, thats why I am taking my time with this tank build. Once its done there hopefully will not be to many design faults  If you need a hand, just gives a yell.
  22. my old chromis died. But I don't think it cost me $320..
  23. my other bubble tip only shuffles 5cm this way and that. over the 18months I have had it
  24. My poor rose anemone, through the tunze nano blender. Sat in the same spot for three weeks, then decided to go for a float today. I guess to see if the grass was greener on the other side. instant kitchen wizzz. Now i have an even bigger problem. The clowns (perculas and skunks 30cms part) were happy with their own anemones. Now there is only one there is a war brewing. Anyone got a spare bubbletip (not green) avaiable for sale????
