  1. I was trying to set my reactor up today Its a Aqua medic 400, and I cannot work out the flowing, It only has one inlet valve and one outlet tube, So how do I get both the CO2 and the water into the reactor without back pressure on either the pump or the co2 air line? :? Also does the bubble counter go before the reactor or after the reactor. I cannot find any pics of one setup on the net so its driving me crazy, maybe if anyone has a copy of the instructions they could photocopy it and send me one. PLEASE

    marine tanks

like your answers swampy. to the point
  3. make your own, glass cube $150, acardia 150watt metal halide $400, 200watt heater $35, wooden stand $500, deltec skimmer MCE 600 hang on $600 (second hand), two tunze nano,s 6025's ($120 each). rock and presto.......... a far better RSM... for about the same price oh and some timers ($10 each)
  4. I had one of these as a hitchhicker, but don't survive the move to the bigger tank.
  5. a true percula and a false percula clown
  6. Today my clownfish spawned for the first time. Dirty old "Dirk and Jenna"  (thats their names) Now I need To see if I can raise them. I don't care about the money, I'm after the challenge. Does anyone know who I can ring, or have any links or advice. thanks
  7. I woke this morning to see my cream bubble tip stuck on my nano. I was like hes dead suck start to the day. But when I turned the pump off I saw both sides of his base had been pulled through the grill, effectively wedging him  , and keeping him 1 mm away from the impeller on both sides. So I placed the pump in the corner and today he pulled his bumb (i'm sure still sore) off thepump and has inflated again. I have now called him steve urkool (oooohhh you guys   ) I'll try to add a pick but the reflection on the tank may have ruined it
  8. yes 3,000 well spend can get you a great set-up. espically if you buy quality second hand brands off this site and places like trademe. to avoid $100 per coral you can buy frags (prices range from free to about $20). Good luck You could make a nano tank which I think can be done well for 1500 bucks. but as the say on mitre te adds big is better.
  9. Read more before I started rather than after I had started
  10. updated Well finally an update. (cose we now have a camera) 4 months on, I am happy with the tank, The only change will be a Calcium reactor in the future. Also I am now experiencing the tunze nano problems of braking brackets which I hope the company will foot the bill and replace them with a better designed bracket. (as everyone I know is now experiencing their failure). I have taken at least 30 frags in the past 4 months, and this is the current picture progress. enjoy. still fiddling with the camera options so hopefully photos will improve soon.

I also had success with sick corals, and amazing revival stories. They end up being you favourites. Amazing what moving a coral 20 cm's closer to a power head or light or vice versa can do as well. Also my two anemones looked terrible in the shop, (but i thought if they can survive for 2-3 months in our local pet store they will survive in my tank).

I disagree chimera. But I do think expenerience is the key to success. And any beginner should get frags, not corals for $100 a crack thats crazy talk even if you spend 3,000+ most people will lose one or two. If I had the money I'd prove it. :-?

    set up costs

As I said I could do it for $400 plus stock and be very successful. Tank $50 (88 litre), stand not required (due to size, put in some furniture), Rock (find one on trademe $8 per kg approx) for 10 kg =$80, Light MH 150 watt (find one on trademe) $150 approx, pumps 1,000lph *2 $50, Heater $25, Skimmer weirpro $120 (should be more money invested here but hey, test kit basic $65. OK maybe $540 then    But I'm in the same boat as reef, no matter what size your tank is if you buy quality equipment you will not regret it. Ie the 2-3k I have spent or the $750 on a deltec skimmer are worth there weight in gold  Also if you sell up you will get most of your money back.

I say as little as $400, for a 88litre with a weirpro hang on. Briananmones one was sweet.

    20,000k bulbs

no brand name so cheap as chips, they came with my light unit. Get one 14,000K german bulb, and my german T5 bulbs to go in. That will inprove things. Probably run the 20,000k above the LPS's and softies on one end of the tank, and the 14,000k above the SPS, clam and anemone
  24. thanks for the advice reef.
