  1. I fumagated the room where all my fish tanks are last week, everything lived through it. Just cover up your tanks with plastic bags or whatever, they should be fine.
  2. The pink one says 15000k on it though : / and when you look at the white one you can visably see it flickering.
  3. Nah I'm pretty sure it was the heater. It was the first time I've used it, like I put the heater in, put the fish in, came back a few hours later and it was at 27. I am going to test it out in a chilly bin and see if it just has a bit of give or if's it's totally munted.
  4. Well I bought another light today, supposedly the exact same light. I open it up and the bulb is only 36 watt (not 40w like the other one) and I'm pretty sure it isn't 15000k like my other one (it's white not pink). I'm pretty ticked off at this, I'm going to take it back tommorow, I don't like paying the exact same price for an inferior bulb.
  5. Hahah, what are the odds seeing you here eh. What's up with NZAF (42 wise) by the way, the forums are down and I've got no idea what's going on. Right now I've got about 10 Axolotls (juveniles, about 10cm right now), 2 common plecos, 1 red spot pleco and 1 bristlenose catfish (juvenile) in a 4ft tank. I've got another smaller tank with 9(I think) Axolotls in it. My 2ft is the one that's currently at 24 (or was unitl the heater broke - it's sitting around 23 right now, I'm going to buy another heater soon) has 5 bristlenose catfish (juveniles), 4 corydoras, 1 chinese algae eater, 1 borneo sucker and a goldfish. I'm going to get some more tropical fish for this tank and then I'll raise the temperature to 26. I'm getting a 3ft tank soon hopefully to put the Axolotls in and I'm going to turn the 4ft into a tropical community tank. What fish do *you* keep?
  6. Are you Staplez as in Staple Nutz? I was using the goldfish to cycle another tank that I had and when it was done doing that I figured I'd put it in my tropical tank, see if it lived. There's another one that was used for the same thing and it lived through the heat fluctuation.
  7. **sticks to the topic Last Sunday the heater in my 2ft tank broke and instead of maintaining the temperature at a moderate 24 degrees it just kept on heating. I caught it at about 27 degrees, thankfully only one fish died and that was a goldfish. They were all moving really, really fast though.
  8. I've only got one light. Perhaps that's the problem.
  9. What exactly is a Borneo Tiger? I can't find it on google.
  10. The light is an Aqua One Tri-Power 15000k 40W 4ft light. The brown patches have spread to three other plants and so now there's only one plant that doesn't have it (and that plant is red so it would be hard to see it if it did have it) somebody help me
  11. Thanks Caryl, I'll try the boiling water with baking soda trick. It's leeched quite a bit so far, I changed the water today.
  12. I got some driftwood a couple of days ago and it's currently soaking in a chilly bin in the back yard so it will sink & I can leech the tannin out of it. I haven't dealt with driftwood before so how long will it take for both of these things to happen?
  13. Looks like that tub could use a plecostomus or two Great to hear they're breeding though.
  14. We've ordered a new digital camera over the internet so when it arrives I'll post some pics of my setup too
  15. The light covers the whole tank, I'm not sure of the specs of it though, I'll post them when I get home. No c02. One of the plants has a nutrient fertilizer stick in with it's roots and I dose the tank daily with Flourish Excel. I don't know the name of the plants, we should hopefully be buying a new digital camera tonight though and if we do I'll post some pics tommorow.
  16. I've got a little common plecostomus that seems to be going up to the surface every now and then to breath in air. I'm pretty sure he isn't just feeding from the surface because before he does this I've noticed him letting off bubbles. Is this normal?
  17. So what kind of Pleco is that, Wazza?
  18. Ah ok, thanks Ira. The same thing happens with Axolotls, apparently here and Australia are the only places where they're called "Mexican walking fish"
  19. The auction is for a 'Red Spot Plecostomus' - that's all the info I've got :-? Thanks for the info though, hopefully it is one of them cause they look sweet!
  20. As opposed to when they're bigger!
  21. Yeah they're on Trademe, but don't tell anyone: I gave the seller my email and we're going outside Trademe because I wanted to pick them up tommorow and the auction ends next week These ones are 3-5.cm apparently. How fast did yours grow (did you buy them little)?
  22. Just babies, I'm getting them at $1 each
  23. They're one of my favourite types of fish too. Funny that you mention bristlenoses, I'm getting 5 of them tommorow 8)
  24. I saw that Pleco, saw your username and figured you were the same person It looks pretty good, but then again I'll say that about most Plecos
