  1. jsut concrete unfortu nately, i make too much of a mess to carpet it lol tested again, its colder now than 7pm, 4 degrees cooler outside, and the temp inside the garage is STILL the same. the back of the garage is 12 ish.
  2. My garage is set up, so at the back, there is a doorway, NO DOOR, and there is a back storage area. the garage is just tin, lined with coreflute lining. Today, david and I spent a good 5 hours insulating the fish room part with poly. using 50mm to 25mm depending on space available. ceiling was 50mm, thickest of all. i have not duct taped all the seams yet, but i have lined the tin door also wtih poly and duct taped fully. all windows are not fully shut. i put a make shift door barrier to the back room. and measured the difference. there is a 10 to 12 degreed difference from the back room - to the fish room area! back room was 13degrees at 7pm, and the fish room was 22ish. i reckon thats a succees but can someone tell me if that is a good difference. the room has not yet fuly heated up, cos i have been going in and out cleaning up. the tanks desired temps are 29 to 30. what should ambient temp be if insulation is effective?
  3. she started eating today! some discus bio gold and my beef mix! i can see a little bump on her belly from the food. the male snow leopard ate abit more than her. but same pattern as 80% of my discus - ate with in 3 days or so, then progressively ate more and more lol
  4. grating i stopped doing i just cut into thin slices from frozen. it usually curls as you cut. then i chop to size, dependong on adults or young discus. finely for young. you find, it provides hours of amusement for them, they just graze for ages lol
  5. male started eating female is going for food slightly now. used to colour bits, so put that in but trying to move them onto hikari bio gold and my beef mix:D
  6. on that note the other discus, setled in well, are definatley getting thicker! you are right, the food i feed, definately beefs them up, literally:D the white butterfly for example, is a pig! wow! garlic i found really really stimulates their appetite, i put alot of Garlic in the beef mix, i found they ate more as they ate more lol CAN YOU OVERDOSE ON GARLIC? i mean, next batch i make, if i double the garlic, is that bad? or maybe 50% more?
  7. i have only had her since saturday, today she did eat a few pellets. she didnt go for the BH mix, she did but went away, cos she isnt used to the smell. i am just more so asking in general, will smaller males pair up with bigger females? animal kingdom generally bigger wins you see. general question, and a thin female, can she breed after some beefing up. she isnt sick, she is just not as thick as the other big monsters lol
  8. haha no this one obtained a male and fem on saturday http://www.hawaiidiscus.com/images/supe ... eopard.jpg
  9. ok two sets of questions first of all i got snow leopards, female is thin - but not a bad size. can i fatten her up and get some bulk on her? also, will she be able to breed if she was thin? maybe shes stunted you see. can i still breed her? if not will a bigger female pair up with a smaller male? if they are alone lets say, is that possible? i have a fertile female snow white, lays every week, if i cant use the snow leopard female - i can cross the snow white fem and male snow leopard. very similar bloodlines, ill get a predominantly show white batch, and the rest is a mix of leopard, snow leopard and misc. apparently.
  10. awesome, if you could david, i had many offeres lol to help me, but if i can do it quickly, easier for me:D the poly cost abit, but its a good investment i reckon!
  11. yeah, i go through it quite fast, maybe not a month, but couple. its good, they attacked it and ate it first try. small ones love it! i cut to small pieces, grater works with babies not the big ones. i put in there frozen when i cut to smaller pieces, bite size pieces so they can bite into it and just swallow it, it melts very quickly
  12. i figure i could buy my own cutter, but scared i would screw it up, hence why i ask for help:D
  13. ok jsut saw some tm ads, looks very promising. its something you add to your own beef herat mix or fed in small doses occasionally. but really, does it work? any discus breeder here to testify for it? i am wondering if its worth a go. does the female produe more eggs? does the eggs get fertilised by the male better? does the milk improve? do the babies grow faster with this formula?
  14. ok, i just wanna cut the corner of one sheet of glass on my discus tank, so i can feed from multiple holes. so everyone gets a go. so this isnt gonna be a complicated cut, just thecorner i live in torbay anyone here can help me out?
  15. where are you from? i never do water changes that much in one go. at most, only 70litres can go into a cycle in my water changer, my filtration would take care of ammonia in that 70 litres i think. but thats annoying, the council should notify you!

    cheap poly

its one of those thats metal that rolls into a giant roll, its in a box. im gonna insulate teh box. and ill just put make shift walls in front of the garage door t5o slow downt he heat transferance through the door itself. its sealed at the bottom wtih rubber its good though. the entrance door on the other hand has a 2.5 cm gap at the bottom, i can literally feel wind going in there, i think thats a big drainer. will definately use a door snake lol very simple yet effective. ill put the door snake outside as i leave the garage, so the wind is slowed or stopped.

    cheap poly

i gonna put 50mm thick poly on the ceiling 40mm at a door, i use this door and will make it removeable (to the back section of my garage, i wont insuralte that, i dont have anything there but storage) 25mm for the side walls 40mm back walland garage door side. im gonna seal off the garage door - and have the one side where i access to go outside removeable in case i need to use the garage door. im gonna use screws with a thick head - thin pieces of wood to stable them with the screws ont o supporting structures (wood frame of garage) silicon, duct tape to stick them on ceiling and to tape gaps. if i can keep the garage ambient temp at around 20c, that is a huge improvement! also, i found that draft constantly came from under the garage entrance door( not the big door but the person door) im gonna block that up too everytime i come out of the grage.
  20. yes, will do, and keep that in mind. bbs is my way to go now, i am gonna visit a member here kindaly gave me his details to see his set ups so i can mimic them, easier if i see it in action:D i am ordering massive sheets of poly next week and insulate my fish room aka garage. i think that willr educe power bill, the garage was 13c, outside was 4to 5 degrees, the tanks were low to 25 to 26 degrees, not the 28 to 30 i aim for.

    cheap poly

silicon is my choice, i can easily peel or scrape it off the cornflute. and screws as well

    cheap poly

apparently the glue may not stick cos it melts the poly slightly, and willc ome off but in say ing that you used 3M duct tape? if so and it sticks strongly? if so then i dont have a problem

    cheap poly

some areas i may be able to use nail/screws. if there is the wood structure to put it on, ill have to see, im gonna measure up tonight, and plan where to put them on. planning on using 40 to 50mm thick on ceilings. and 25mm on walls (somewalls with limited space) and 40 on some walls that i can put that thick on. i have a little room place at the back of the garage wherei store my food and randoms, i may just close that off with a makeshift door using 40 to 50mm thick poly that i manually move side to side. to save cose also there is no use of insulating that area.
  24. yeah sounds like they live for at least 3 hrs if i put a bunch before i leave for work, they should be eaten and some eaten through out the day. then i can put more feedings when i get home. i think i will have it sussed. will jsut need to set them up before the breeding tanks get set up, an investment in insulation will need be made first!
