thinking of geting a fire eel. it will end up eating what my discus eats - the beef haert mix. i have a tt eel that eats shrimp and beef heart mince. thsi one will surely start eating that. but the beef heart discus mix has garlic and veges. is this ok? garlic ok for fire eel?

when it gets bigger, i think small sized smooth gravel will pass through with poo. but when small, is another thing. if it swallows some, there is not much you can do - and jsut wait. i like teh albinos, i just like albino fish in general

this si a weird post. are you gonna eat teh dead fish? i have nothing against fish eating - but the pellets you feed your fish will make the meat disgusting. I dont suggest you do that. besides, what a waste of tiem, you wont get much meat from a silver dollar! you shoudl get into pacus! they have substatial meat. but, main thing is, DID YOU ACTUALLY MEASURE YOUR WATER? your fish will nto die wtih even very high nitrate for a day....they also wont gasp for air. thats ammonia.... you probably had amonia. so if this post is serious, i guess you have to ask 1)what filter are you using 2) litres of tank - number of fish 3) feeding regime but in saying that, your post .... sounds like a joke.

Who cleans the suface? FEMALE OR MALE? i noticed its the egg layer that does it. i have one discus that i thought was male. but ...... is cleaning the surface and is acting like the female. its by the laying surface, preparing it, and the male protecting it and the area of laying.

jeniffer, are you like a vet or something? anyways, should i redose, will it have adverse effects? like make the bugs stronger or something? redose is a precautionary dose, so normal dose not double right?

what do i do, how long do i wait to move it back to the main tank?

oh sorry my bad, typo the discus is NOW using both gills lol both gills using fine and well, discus is also chasing my h and mroe so than before. and its actually spreading its fins now just all clamped up.

yeah, as previous post, apparently that can strengthen the worms if some survive. the fish is looking better. fins are starting to comeout. more active and colours are coming back ...

no .... sadly the eyes of the arowana will never grow back eyes are one of those things that cannot be grown back. even in the insect world mostly cannot grow back while legs and wings can.

agreed. its a significant wound, but i th ink it may survive. eating? or swimming around... if it is then its not so stressed as it could be. if its sittting int he corner and on the ground. then maybe separate it

yeah me too. look, melafix the tank heavily to ensure infection does not set it. arowanas are very risilient anyways. it might heal and just have a pirate jar.

definately i reckon the pink tails. they ahve very very sharp teeth, and lots of them. i have seen them demolish small fish (culled flower horn fry)

the parents will kill thsoe eggs and eat them if there are other discus in that tank. if your emove it and they hatch, they will die cos they need the parents. Anyway, the rising sun and why it keeps hiding. you will alawys get discus that are shy. i have a school of 20 and 7 babies in the grow out tank. the 20, 3 are more shy than the rest. they are smaller too. but they will get mroe confidence. hiding places too works. Line of sight breaking works well. im not a discus expert yet:D but i am a quick study, buyign 20 and having a big school from 7 starting off, i have seen the dymanics of their school change. also feed in separate spots. so all of them can feed. i find that when i fed in one spot, hoping to force all of themt oc ome out. what happens is that the top dogs feed, when they are done. the others come. sometimes by then there isnt much left i now feed all over teh tank and just drop food in 3 feeding holes. this awy, there is food EVERYWHERE. everyone now can get a good portion of food whcih makes them less shy

fact of the matter is, the govt just dose not care about this hobby. probably beacuse there is no economical gain from it. so you apply they just screw wtih you perhaps because they can. some guy takes over a new desk and decides to make new changes....for what reasons? none. the end of the day, if you awnt rays, big monsters etc taht really cannot establish in nz anyway - then perhaps moving to canada where the importation rules is very relaxed:D

ok so i have avi verm i put 2 mls in 200 litres and prazi i put as prescribed by lfs. 5ml per 80litres of water. so 12.5ml for 200litres of water.

also does the prazi harm bio filter? though hospital tank has very basic filtration anyways.

there are no visible problems wtih it. no blemishes, fungus, no wounds. its getting skinnier despite eating mega loads! like the belly gets fat, then thins quickly. i believe its worms. am i wrong? let me know before 530 lol so i can exchange medicine:D it seems to not get the nutrients its supposed to be getting with all the food it gets

tahnks just got prazidinazole (spelling to be corrected) lol 5ml per 80L of water. is this right? Can i use Melafix in conjunction to reduce stress and just a safety margin. also do i need to put salt, or should i put some salt? any more details? says that dose it once only should be ok in 1 week. or dose it, then 3 days, 25% water change and redose. my hospital is 200 litres. so thats 12.5ml to the tank. put a lil more? 25% after 3 days and FULL dose again? or just partial dose?

isolated a discus, eats still, and was eating heaps! but slowly but surely i notcied it was getting skinnier. its the only one wti the issues. fins dont flare up to display as much, its kinda just floating around swimming slowly. not as active. i believei t may be an internal parasite. what should i treat it with?

ok, the amount of bbs eggs matters....... please clarify, thats somewhat vague. how does it matter? putting less or more is better? the only thing i can think of is that upside down the eggs funnel down, meaning they have no choice but to be pushed up and moved, and leaving no chance for ANY eggs to settle to the bottom while the aerator is on........ any feedback on this comment?
