  1. Pie, are you running standard chips or some other imported brand. Or is it just the amount of water you have maybe? 1350 is perfect! how long has it run at 1350 with no top ups?
  2. Reactors WILL NOT keep up with MG completely. Calcium usually isn't a problem.
  3. Chimera, I will have all the stuff you need by the end of the week. High grade magnesium powder along with Mg Sulphate. VERY CHEAP. Call me on Friday, hopefully Ive got it. Cheers
  4. no good for aquabee though, it may fire up the wrong way, damn things.
  5. Chim, it wont be Calcium, it is more likely to be salt. The air intakes should be injected with fresh top off water every now and then to dissolve the salt creep build up. (Injected whilst it is running obviously!!)
  6. VERY important, what model skimmer do you have? and did you buy it new or second hand. I ask that, because sometimes they can be messed around with.
  7. I been busy, just bought five acres and going to build new house in January! Yeah, that is what I was talking about. The aquabee skims when the aquabee is working in both directions. It is imperative that the intake air hose and tap are in PERFECT working order or the Correct direction will overskim and make a mess. However if you run it in the under powered mode it still skims ok, but you have less control and its skimmate production is limited. I was skimming wrong for 6 months!!! You should see it now! Skimming around 30% more.
  8. Personally i prefer to add calcium,Mag and KH seperately, and add trace elements individually. I use a bottle of general trace along with the above and that is all. Some of these premixed products will easily over feed certain elements that arent required and you cant prevent it. In other words you do not have COMPLETE control. REEF, wheres my reef supplements!!
  9. Before we answer this, you should probably explain your setup. This slime algae may be due to poor water turnover, or lighting conditions. What system are you running and what size? Cheers

    FOWLR setup

No problem, so long as your skimmer is efficient enough. You WILL need lots of live rock though to harbour nitrifying bacteria, probably at least half the litreage of the tank.
  11. Will post later.......bit busy at the mo. It only applies to aquabee....sorry Chim!
  12. Anybody running these skimmers and do not know the difference between hi flow and lo flow from there AQUABEE skimmer pumps, I have some information you may require to enable you to get 200% better skimming. PM me!
  13. You wernt going to try and overhang by 200mm each side really were you!!!

    HELP

80% water change and hope for the best. good luck

One other thing. I do a 40-45% water change every month, which will prevent chloride build up over time. If using this system, it would be advisable to do big water changes. Most people who would be using this system would normally have smaller tanks anyway, (Or aReactor would generally be in place). So large water changes arent too difficult. Any sceptics are welcome to inspect my tank!!

No it is not pool chlorine, it is calcium hardness that is used to buffer a pool. not very good quality though.

http://web.archive.org/web/200010171320 ... efault.asp http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/ ... 4/chem.htm Ok...So people who are going to be using this system like myself, please be aware that you need to buffer with Baking soda, (From the super market) to raise your KH level. Supermarket baking soda, (Sodium Bicarbonate) is more refined than technical grades as it is for human consumption. Using this system also requires epsom salts. Decent water changes are also required, but we all know that anyway! you can either read the www links that WASP supplied, (ABOVE), or simply mix one part epsom salt with 10 parts of magnesium chloride, (DRY) and then add approx. 3 small cups to five litres of water in a pump bottle or similar. approximately 5 or 6 desertspoons of this mixed liquid will raise Magnesium levels by about 30-40 PPM for every 300 litres. This is a guide only, you will have to esablish the exact amount yourself. 3 cups Calcium Chloride to a five litre bottle works out about the same as magnesium, (5 or 6 desertspoons = a bit less, 30-35 PPM per 300 litres). I add the above as follows: 1: every Sunday I check my levels. 2: Calcium is generally around 380-400 4: I add enough premixed calcium liquid to up my levels to around 450 5: I do the same with magnesium. (It is normally around 1200, I bring it up to 1350. 6: I add enough baking soda to bring KH up to 10-12. (1 heaped teaspoon adds about 2 KH to every 300 litres) I simply dump the contents straight into my sump one after the other. This does not shock the system if done weekly. If longer periods are evident I suggest adding them over a couple of days. PLEASE NOTE: this is a guide only, and the levels i maintain may not suit your requirements. Any other questions please ask. Cheers Craig

Nice...I will see if that coincides with information I'm about to receive.

I am currently in the process of getting information regarding the amounts and testing for epsom salts which is used to help remove high concentrations of chlorides etc over time. Will post when have more info.

Thanks Wasp, I have allowed for a little bit of Time! Its not super expensive. Yes Brian....Calcium Chloride, (Technical grade) Calcium Hydroxide also needs to be left to settle, similar to Kalkwasser. Personally I dont have time for that!
