  1. Just found out it was made by the guy who supplies Hollywood, so all good! Tank being drilled in the morning. 7 holes at the base......blahdy blahdy blah.
  2. The Magician....bloody film people are weirdo's!!
  3. Still got lots of drilling and bracing to do yet. Will take time.
  4. We have decided not to sell the house and hang around for another few years. I couldnt handle not upgrading for a few years!! I can add more Zoos now...Lol!
  5. Purchased the tank from Trademe! It was professionally built for a film set in Auckland in April. Great price and being 12mm glass, I had to get it!! (Took a bit to convince the Wife of this one)... :-? But she knows it's cool!! The tank is housed in a protective timber "outer" that was used for the set. It has protected it beautifully! this will be ripped away and binned. Ive still got to build the cabinet yet. I will also use it to house my TV and Stereo units. I will be running 2 x deltec 1250 Turbos. One directly at overflow and one directly after LR filtration prior to 7000LPH return feed. This is going to be fun!
  6. Start date today....Purchased new tank. Still a lot of work ahead but fully prepped and planned. New tank will be: 2100 x 800 x 600high. (12mm glass) 1000 litres main display. Will be running 500-600 litre sump. (Not sorted yet). Photos coming. (ROCK ON BABY!!!!)
  7. Mmmm...have to say, something I'm not keen on either.
  8. In this case, 30% is not a big water change. How old is the setup? I change 50% monthly as a regular routine. As long as your routine is well planned the % shouldnt make a difference with effort. I can do a 180 liter water change in 25 minutes. with 80ppm N03 you should do an 80% water change. But first you need to work out why you have N03 this high. LR is the best way as you said and the more the better. I would suggest at least half the water volume should be filled with LR.

I guarantee you get extra ACRO growth with the new levels! I am using a new MG and my ACROS are hauling arse!

If you used the salifert kit you can keep adding reagent from a second syringe and add up the extra. Aparently you may get a bit of algae growth. Thats about all. No harm apart from that. I run at 1300 rather than 1500, so as to eliminate any extra algae growth. I heard this thru Pie, but not sure where he got this info. Sounds fair!

No, my ones love it! No other type of snail handles very well. They die fairly quick. You should still climatise before putting in the tank though. They are used to higher tempeartures whilst bathing in rock pools. Just remember they are in winter at the moment, so it will be easy to shock them, climatise slowly. They clean the rocks up a treat!

If you want snails for cleaning, head to your local beach, such as browns bay and grab some cats eyes. They love the temp and everything else about a marine tank and they clean up lots. And they are free! My ones have coralline algae growing on their shells!
  16. sounds like the hose has come off down at the pump maybe...........worth a try.
  17. is it throwing bubbles up the neck and into the cup, then overflowing back into the skimmer and so on.... If so, the aquabee has been turned on in the RIGHT position and you now need to seriously reduce the airflow through the tube. This should skim with really fine bubbles.
  18. Nothing wrong with a cheap cap of vodka every now and then....
  19. You ignoring me chim? I run my Alk/Carbonate at 12kh
  20. I'll get back to you on that one....Im painting at the moment!
  21. what are your phosphates reading on Salifert chim?
  22. Im sure Layton has something....or Wasp!!
  23. The proof really I spose would be what is contained in NSW. Couldnt really go off much else. I'm sure there is information somewhere on line that describes what each element does for a coral. But personaaly, I just keep my levels a bit higher than NSW and there is then plenty enough for them to use.
  24. Do you have prrof that MG has nothing to do with colour? I would find that very difficult to ascertain and probably hard to find proof of in written form.
  25. Magnesium, calcium and Carbonate builds corals. Pottasium is the flowering element of plants and flower along with nitrogen for vegetative growth. Magnesium is VITAL for Coral growth, just as the above is for plants. Low element levels will effect growth in many ways.
