That's what I've been using on my frag system Steve. There are 2 of them as they last around 2 weeks each, so I can change them when required. The only real way to wash them is in the washing machine. BTW, they are made out of the same stuff as the commercial cloth vacuum cleaner bags.
  2. Looks very well thought out! Where did you get the 30 minute off button?

    Speed's Tank

Well when I saw it, you had everything you need, without a sump. That's also what I'm planning on doing next time around. You've even trained the tang to stand on his head! How are you hosting the pics? Photobucket?

    Speed's Tank

Great shots Speed! Your tank in person is, like Helifax, also a remarkeable achievement for someone who just started.

If it's only bacterial contamination it probably won't be much of an issue. The water around Herald Island would be fairly prone to contaminants, I would have thought, as it is kind of an estuary. Better one of the west coast beaches if you can somehow do it. Difficult though with all the surf etc.
  6. I think most of us can read, and I also don't really think many people "are a significant problem". However if I had to pick a characteristic of people who "are a significant problem", I would have say people who are unable to control their temper, and are unable to control their mouth. Regardless of wether they can read.
  7. You're right, it was Nautilus. I could not locate the thread, but here is a similar one. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthrea ... t=nautilus
  8. Argonauts have been kept, there was a thing on Reef Central about it once, a guy was on holiday in some country and saw some in a shop. This got him to do some investigation & he found there is at least one public aquarium that maintains them. But he also found out they don't actually live very long, if you bought a large healthy one, even if you could have ideal conditions for it would likely only last a few months. Can't vouch for the accuracy of all that, but that's about what the guys on the thread were saying.
  9. Well I don't see the point of going overboard about that. We have a number of members selling stuff, who include Reef, Steve, and Brendan. If the avatar or sig or whatever informs people of this, from where I stand, this is useful information to the members. Also, when there is a discussion on some product, in particular a new one that nobody has any experience with as yet, I find it silly that the vendor is not allowed to join the thread to add information, and perhaps correct misperceptions that may be in evidence, again, that would be a useful service to the members. It's where we have competing vendors having a slanging match, then THAT may be a problem. However if the rules are to be properly enforced, then the slanging matches can be stopped, and vendors allowed to add constructive comment, then that must be a win for everybody, vendors and the rest of us.
  10. Yes, I'd have one suggestion for the moderators, that if a person is banned, it would say so on their avatar, such as is done on Reef Central, so people will not think their pms are being ignored. Also, while I guess there is a risk of getting banned myself, I generally support the enforcement of the rules, if it had been done from the gitgo we would have been able to have sensible discussions on such things as Zeovit, which has never been allowed to happen on this forum as yet. Another thing, part of the rise in the popularity of the site is people enjoy the drama, it would be a bad thing to stifle any banter completely, so it will be a difficult path for moderators to walk.
  11. Well you can't say that & leave us hanging Chimera, Who?

Just got this email from them "Just wanted to update you all, we are very close to fixing the problem. The site is up, we are just waiting for the domain problem to be fixed. " What could the domain problem be? They forgot to renew it?

    Zeovit.com

Well look who the zeovit thread brought back! Nice holiday Layton? I've kinda been missing your cheerful attitude and fun threads People been asking me where you are / what happened to you! For some reason they think I would know!
  16. How high, how much light? It is possible to overdo the light with these. And as helifax said, you can actually feed hydnophora little bits of chopped mussel or similar. Over the course of a day or so they will put tentacles all over it & absorb it.

    Zeovit.com

Thanks for confirming that Ghostface. Guess I'll just have to wait till they get it fixed. Maybe they let the domain expire & it got grabbed by one of those blackmailing type people who extort money.

    Tank Maker

If you drop a pm to Cracker, he had someone do his tank who did a nice job at a good price. In Auckland though but may be worth a trip.

    Zeovit.com

Anyone had any problems getting to Zeovit.com? I haven't been able to get to it for several days. Just wondering if nobody can, or it's just me?
  21. On Reef Central people have had success with coral bandeds, and also bird wrasses. Apparently the bird wrasses just love ferreting around digging in the sand finding the worms. If only I had a bigger tank I'd love to have a green bird wrasse, they are certainly a pretty fish. You may also be able to lure the worm from it's hole at night with a piece of mussel or shrimp, I THINK if you are even able to just decapitate the worm, the rest will die, only the part with the head can regrow. This was discussed a while ago, I think Feelers had some info on it about which part can or can't regrow.
  22. When mine got worn, I had the Co2 turned up too much, the PH in the reactor was too low and the water was cloudy with excess calcium carbonate being dissolved. I think it was this that caused the wear. Now I'm setting PH at a higher number and maintaining almost clear water inside the reactor, the second impellor is lasting OK. What gave it away to me was a loud buzzing noise coming from the pump, which eventually got so loud it was obvious something was badly amiss. Replaced shaft & impellor, and end of problem. With the Co2 set better now, the new impellor has already gone longer than the other one, and I can see getting the same kind of life as Pies one.
