    Zeovit Spur 2

No, you can ask. You won't get told though cos it's a trade secret. If you cannot live with that, over to you. However, the product has proved safe, to people who can read instructions. If you are confident in your guess, your call. Pity. What you say would carry some weight, if you could prove it. In fact, I recall going down this exact same track with you before, and you proved nothing that time either.

    TDS

The one I use, a Hanna, came pre calibrated, and tested twice, with the test results filled in. It tests RODI at 00, and Auckland tap water, with some day to day fluctuations, somewhere around 60 or 70 ppm. So yours giving a reading of 0.19 for tap water, as IRA said, would appear to be some other unit than ppm. Have fun, I'm sure you'll figure it out. Perhaps if you could beg or borrow a TDS meter with known readings and do a comparison, would help figure it out. And - Good Score!!

    Zeovit Spur 2

OK Ben took you up & done the taste test, was expecting something really strong but it has nearly no taste, just mildly astringent. Only put the smallest drop in my mouth though

    Zeovit Spur 2

Spur 2 is a product used to bring out colours in some sps corals. As it can be used in tanks that don't use the full zeovit system, here is a link to a thread about it. http://zeovit.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5901 The above thread is from a pretty happy guy, but Spur 2 is a difficult product to use, other water parameters have to be right to use it. Therefore here is another thread with a guy having some difficulty with it. You may note the Kiwi influence! http://zeovit.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5912

    Japanese tank

Speed I couldn't find pics of those AWESOME Japanese tanks we were talking about, however this ones pretty cool. A few typical features of the better Japanese tanks, are powerful spotlights highlighting particular corals, heaps of flow, clever aquascaping and depth (check out the depth of this one), and clean as tanks they hate coraline algae. http://zeovit.com/forums/showthread.php ... t=japanese
  7. Agree with all above. Also, to make it simple, ph in a reef tank is a function of carbon dioxide in the water, against alkalinty. The carbon dioxide pulls ph down, and alkalinty pulls ph up, but not higher than 8.3 or so. ( Sometimes it will go slightly higher ). So, to maintain ph, all that is needed is to keep alkalinity at a correct level, and ensure adequate aeration to allow dispersal of carbon dioxide. PH will then take care of itself. Alkalinty can be raised as Cracker and Rossco said, by adding baking soda. But remember that the correct balance must be maintained between alkalinty and calcium. So if someone keeps adding baking soda, but not calcium also, things will get out of whack. Kalkawasser has both alkalinty and calcium in the correct proportion to each other, plus as Chimera and Rossco said, has a high ph so will raise ph during and shortly after dosing.
  8. Little tip about photobucket for you Seahorsemad, when you post the pic, copy the bottom web address looking thingy under your pic in photobucket, and paste into your post. It will then display straight up, like this. By the way, the new tank is awesome!

    hello

Oh well if it was me that caused offence Afrikan I apologise. The remark was a little tongue in cheek, I thought most people would know it was a joke, because in my early days, I bought a mojano anemone from a guy selling everything up. Although I'm a smaller shmuck, because I only paid $20.00 for it  We live and learn! Were you the purchaser?
  10. wasp

    hello

That's a better pic, looks exactly like mojano, other than the long stalk. Maybe they go like that sometimes. So who's the shmuck who paid $70.00 for mojano? Actually, better not answer that!

we certainly seem to have a good number of stocking experts!
  12. Don't have the one you refer to, the comparative photo one, but here's a couple of useful articles http://www.personal.psu.edu/sbj4/aquari ... Lamps1.htm http://www.personal.psu.edu/faculty/s/b ... Lamps2.htm
  13. Guess some of them guys just don't have anything to do!
  14. Happens to most of us from time to time. Just adjust the skimmer right down, and wait this out, will pass after a few hours or days.
  15. Doesn't look cluttered to me. I think you've done about the best you can do for that shape of tank. About the only other option is what some people do, put a mounting rack down the back so they can put rocks straight up the back, or in varoius patterns, but what you've done looks fine!

    pumps

Yes the sump turnover & everything else is included, for me figuring rock was too complicated i just went by total volume. Your suggested flow looks like it will be great.

    pumps

I'd agree with a stream also, however if you want to go with the eheims, they pump I think 2,400 lph, so 3 of them would be 7,200 lph, or a turnover for your tank a little less than 15 x tank volume per hour. A minimum turnover should be 10 times flow, so you would certainly be over the minimum. It then depends what sort of livestock you wish to keep, some only like high flow and some only like low flow. But you can probably have some areas in the tank with high flow, and some with low flow. IMO a good general flow rate is around 20 x flow, for a mixed reef, this allows enough for some higher flow areas, and is probably enough to ensure no dead areas. My own tank has around 80 x flow, however there are some corals I cannot keep, it is too much for them.

    hello

Had a look at the pic my eyesight's not the best but I'm pretty sure they are not mojano, not sure what though. If you know who the guy is who bought them Bruce, how about discuss with him & post back here what they are, I'd be interested.
  19. Beachy there are lower light corals you could easily stock that tank with the lighting you've got. How much flow you got?

What kind of anemone is that bottom left?

    Speed's Tank

Just been looking at some of mine. Thought they were pretty good when I took them , but the standards here are getting higher, now I think mine are some of the worst on the site! Oh well, I'll blame the camera
