  1. Wow, must have my whole pricing strategy all wrong. I thought my online prices were cheaper than most. http://www.petplanet.co.nz Our pumps are cheap as. Had a guy drive up from Hamilton to buy one because they were twice the price down there. Where in the country are you Reef Man? If you are in Auckland then I can probably do you a good deal on Arcadia lights if you are willing to wait a little while (supplier does not sit on much/any stock). Not worth shipping. And though most people bag them, my Seio pump is still going stong. Good current at a cheap price - we only do the 1100 and 1500 models.
  2. If they worked for you, think what they could do for your corals!

    Prodibio Tank

Seems he uses a little more than just that. Checkout the water current as well. That surface water looks like it is really moving.

    new camera

And how may 8.4 Megapixel pix do you think you will ever take? Good to know you can though.

    Fluval FX5

Tell us more Steve. What are you running it on?
  6. We have all of the Pondmaster (Atman and Via Aqua - old brand name for these pumps in NZ if brought in by the main supplier) on our website http://www.petplanet.co.nz Cheapest price around unless someone is selling an end of line. Those skimmers are on there as well but I know we are out of stock of one of them. Pump Capacity required 750L/H 180cm. Eheim 1250 Universal Pump or a Pondmaster 1800PH should do it. $179.95 or $75.95. Brooklands (the main importer of Weipro skimmers) recommend the Ehiem 1250 as the correct size pump, but then they import them. We also have the 402 powerhead for $69.95. Not sure how good the skimmer is, should be excellent for a tank that size. The 402 powerhead is an excellent powerhead. VERY reliable. They have been around for years and are not as popular due to cheap Chinese pumps but I think they are far superior. You can add a quick filter to them which makes an excellent barrier to fish etc getting sucked in.
  7. Won't the larger of the two be a female?
  8. Must be the bad fishkeepers who keep shoplifting from me then.....I am all for chopping of a hand, lets see them do it twice!

    Clove Oil

It is also used for knocking puffers out so their beaks can be trimmed.
  10. Don't forget the old mushrooms. I have used them to stop my long tentacle anemone stinging corals by fencing it in with them. It won't spread over the top of them.
  11. That tank is way to small for sea horses. What part of NZ are you in? It wouldn't happen to be an AR380 tank would it?

    sand

Sure the sand is full of "crap" but it is also full of plenty of good things. It is a food factory. I would use small rocks to bare the brunt of the flow against the glass. That will help reduce the sand blowing around. You could mix some larger size coral substrate in the areas most effected. There are some corals that will handle the pounding. I have some yellow polys that are in major current and they are growing well.
  13. If you get one, check the flow rate. Some do have a problem. I have two going back that are meant to pump 700 l/h. They only manage about 430 l/h with all the media taken out.

    Noisy Pump

I run three tanks on Pondmaster pumps. Seem nice and quiet to me. I sell them so I guess that may seem a little bias. They are cheap. I used to use an Eheim, excellent pump but with a much larger price tag.

    light

We use the MG1000 which is a twin 150W. The MG600 is just a smaller version. I have had a few ballast problems but Ben is using an MG600 and has sold several with no problems. Kong's import the MG1000 and MG1200 under the Aqua One brand but not the MG600 size so if you want a single these are the only ones you will find.
  16. Moved house awhile ago. A couple of days after the move, the RCD for the tanks kept tripping. I kept resetting it. The third time, I heard a popping noise from my algae tank in the basement. The source of the noise was a Hydor sponge/heater combo filter which was in the process of exploding underwater and spewing out what looked like smoke. I hit the RCD. Disconnected the filter and restarted the system. Made the all important mental note to put another filter and heater in the tank. A month passed..... Must sort that tank out now dead worms are floating on the surface. I thought those worms were tough. Not as tough as the baby pearl bubble that was still in the currentless cold tank. Fished it out and dropped it in the main tank. Two weeks later and it has never looked better!
  17. If it is a different brand, just make sure of the bulb lenght. There are a lot of ever cheaper units around but they cut corners by using shorter tubes. For example a 24" fitting would only take 18" tubes.
  18. Sure does. http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auction_detail.asp?id=43818525
  19. So why does my tank with high nitrates not have it and did not have it when phosphate were off the chart, yet another tank with no nitrate or phosphate has it?
  20. Can do a brand new in the box Aqua One AL15D flight fitting for $74.95+delivery ($5 standard post). Takes 2 x 15W 18" fluro tubes and comes with standard aquarium bulbs.
  21. Sounds like a great idea. Heater can stay in the main system.
  22. Still have one Jebo skimmer left for $50.00.

    Fly season

We use a pestrol spray can in the kitchen for the last two years. Tank was in the lounge. Use the repallent can not the kill can. If you are worried run heaps of carbon.
