  1. Yeah, these four tanks are the sump system. The skimmer is the one thing that really concerns me. Serious $$$. Will have to be BIG.
  2. I am planning a new sump system for the new house. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have truckloads of space to put it so I am thinking of using 4 six foot tanks. Tank 1 - settling tank for water coming from the tank(s) upstairs and home for the protein skimmer(s) Tank 2 - rock tank for filtration and possible grow out tank Tank 3 - water change tank Tank 4 - refuge/grow out tank and return pump(s) Tank 2 and 3 would be plumbed so they can be disconnected from the system if I need to mix new saltwater or if I need a seperate tank for any reason. I will have 1 or 2 tanks upstairs depending on if a wall can be removed. These will be about 650-800 litres each with the sump system being 2000-2600 litres depending on tank final demensions. I figure more water the better as I want a large fish population upstairs and the water volume downstairs will make the system very stable.
  3. We sell Aqua One and had some Jebo that we got on special. Equal quality. If you want a good heater then get a Jager. Will cost a lot more but has a three year guarentee, tempered glass and a better heating ability. We sell a 300W for $57.95 and they claim it is good enough to heat up to a 1000 litre system. 300W Aqua One might cost about $35 and is good for about 300 litres. I have cracked a fare few Visi Therms and Aqua Ones and had heaters with broken coils.
  4. But air pumps are not quiet. They can make a lot more noise than a water pump. We do the multi skimmer for $129.95. You can not get the UV version in NZ via a store. I think Deepblue imports them. If it is a small tank they give you a spot to hide your heater out of the tank.
  5. Ok, their RO/DI units take standard size cartridges (all good) and some gear has NSF certification. I just need an idea of how many people would want the drinking system and how many would want just the RO/DI unit?
  6. What did it look like? Are you sure it was a flat worm?
  7. Container colour is not really an issue unless you are storing the water long term in a light area. One thing to consider is do you need to move the container when it is full? If so 100 litres will be a little heavy. 50 litre home brew barrels are excellent. Big screw on lid so you can get in there and clean it out if need be. Get a heater and a powerhead for stirring. As for gloves, a lot of books recommend them but I don't think many people use them. My pearl bubbles sting the bajeeezus out of my hand everytime I clean the glass so gloves would stop that but since I am not soft I can take it.
  8. Or order it of me for $26.95 +$5 P+P.
  9. Ok, moving house soon and am planning the new system. Has anyone got any advice/experience regarding using/effect of natural light? The tank is going right next to windows (not my first choice but means it can be 3ft wide) and I am thinking of getting a sky light (window style) above the tank as the roof is north facing and then supplementing with T5 and halides. I figure overheating should not be an issue as I will put extractor fans in to remove the hot air and the sump system while be in the basement.
  10. I use a meat baster (hardware stores have plastic and rubber ones) to turn the sand. Over time all the fine particals settle to the bottom and the larger to the top. When you blast them it brings the small stuff to the top. Stops algae discolouring and gives everything a good feed. Great for doing the rocks to.
  11. Thanks for the info (and wesite). I will email the supplier and confirm details about cartridge size and quality. The unit looks good for what it is worth. Trust me, you guys will be the first to know when we get them. After reading the website info I will try and get the right plumbing fittings in. As far as the slow/low flow, drinking systems come with a 3-4 gallon pressuized storage tank. I will bring some of these in and the counter taps. The company I am going to use only do RO/DI units (up to seven stage) and all the associated bits.
  12. Yeah, I have convinced the company to let me do an initial order of 25 units. Just deciding what extras we need. Might bring in the extra bits you need to plumb them in. Could help people convince their better halves that it's money well spent. Think of all that great drinking water they can enjoy.....
  13. Just went to the home show. RO units $600-$1000. Someone inthe middle is making serious $$$$.
  14. Check out the back wall in the first photo. Solid polyps.
  15. Our large blue tang had a big outbreak when we added three new fish to our display tank. Took him a good month to calm down and for all of them to clear up. You really need to look at why it has had an outbreak. What are the tank conditions, is the fish in good condition, have you added new tank mates?
  16. Be interesting to see if you can keep the three clowns. Two of mine paired and drove the other away. Had to take it out of the tank.
  17. I don't know how soon we could get them. About 14 day turn around at manufacturer, 2-4 week wait for sailing date, 3 weeks to get here. I would say within three months.
  18. The four stage consists of: 1 - 1-micron pre-filter 2 - 1-micron carbon block filter 3 - RO TFC Membrane. 4 - 100% DI resin post filter The tentative pricing is what I would sell them for. They recommend replacing all the filters every 6-12 months. If you did 200 litres a day for six months that would be 0.7 cents a litre.
  19. I am picking most people us 4 stage. There is even a seven stage. Did yours come with a pump or water tank as the ones I may get have 12-16 litre tanks that attach to collect the water.
  20. Ok, I am thinking about importing some. Just wondering what type (stages, brands, etc) people are using. Is it just the salties or are freshies using them as well? Tentative pricing would be: 4 Stage RO/DI 200 litre per day $270 4 Stage RO/DI 400 litre per day $425 6 Stage RO/DI 200 litre per day $350 6 Stage RO/DI 400 litre per day $700
  21. I hate the bare bottom look. The sand gives a nice contrast to the rocks. Smaller grain size stays cleaner looking but large sizes don't blow around as much. I like a 3-4cm layer. If you want a cheap substrate there is 2mm marble chip 25kg bag $40.00 If you want some live sand bed, I can syphon a chunk of mine in exchange for new sand.
  22. http://www.peteducation.com/index.cfm?cls=16 Good general info on most of the marine inhabitants. Plus printer friendly versions for me to give to customers! Great for ID of macro algae.
  23. They are adaptabe little buggers. Mine used to live in a finger coral and I am pretty sure there is a shop in Rotovegas that has one that was/had one that lives in a clam. Any port in a storm.
  24. 20kg makes 600 litres. 18 cents a litre is good. Do you want to work for me if your time is worth nothing.
