I think there would be a huge waiting list if someone did get them to breed (find a mate) I know I'd take severall. Why can't the importers bring them in any more?

Ring peter at port nicholson glass in wellington. He will deliver the tank and his prices are quite competative. Or wet pets will have a tank made for you done know what there prices are like though

Off memory I think it is about 3-4 inches of gravel. I assume you are running an under gravel filter (UGF) if not I don't think it is too much of a worrie. If you are using a UGF then it is important you have plenty as this is what provides the surface area for bacteria to breed on. alot of people sugest not to disturb the lower layers of the gravel when doing a gravel vac though I don't know weather that is good advice or not

I have two reeves turtles and they are neat one has the most amaizing personality. I always sugest to people to buy a reeves turtle if they are going to buy a turtle but most people arn't prepaired to spend the extra $200

I made a basking rock tower for my turtle. It takes a little time as it is hard to get rocks that sit on top of each other well. I used alot of silicon and had small rocks to fill gaps start with a nice big rock for the basee. Schist is available from most land scaping stores

Tank volume/size matter - What about dimensions???
dan_from_nz replied to agoh's topic in Freshwater
No the biggest factor with tank dimensions is surface area it is better to have a lower tank than a High tank when going for the same volume of water -
Boy so many never agains I think next time I move I will upgrade at the same time just to justify the hassel

Does anyone keep local/coldwater salt water set-ups??
dan_from_nz replied to David R's topic in Saltwater
I also had a saltwater tank, I fed the tank once a week had an internal filter rocks and a sponge filter I changed water once a month with either nsw or asw (natural or artificial salt water). I had this running for more than 6 months no problems. I don't know if the fish are still alive as aparently my ex girlfriend unplugged it a couple of months ago after I moved out (I still haven't gotten around to collecting that tank yet). I had heeps of glass shrimp, hermit crabs, snails and fish that I don't know the name of. they were all neat characters. Rock pool fish are relatively hardy I found and have read in books the same as they are use to quick temperature changes and salinaty changes (small amount of water in the sun evaporating the water). It is not legal to just take them I don't think (although nothing is illegal untill you get caught) but you can purchase them through your LFS or The seahorse farm in Napier Good Luck Daniel -
I think Flourish excell is the best product, I have heard dose normally the first day then again a few days later if it hasn't gone

clown loaches actually don't like higher temps they shouldn't be put over 24-25 degrees aparently. As said earlier because they don't have scales the white spot cure actually hurts them or somthing. Almost all diseases are a result of bad water quality or undue stress (although clown loaches get white spot easily) so you should focus on the cause of the problem not the immediate solution. the white spot cure will only attack the ich when it is in its cyst state (I thik this is about every 3 days) when it drops off the fish to reproduce. Good Luck with it all Daniel

I have been trying to make my own t5 setup the parts are relatively easy to get your hands on the only snag I have had is the electrical wolesaler can't find any waterproof end caps in the country although these can be scourced of the internet relatively easily and cheepely. Good luck Daniel

what sort of noise is it, as air getting into the filter makes a horrable noise. This can happen by a fish knocking the intake enough for it to suck up some air. Eheim now make a water safe lubricant that is suposed to be very good (the wd40 for fish tanks is how they refered to it) havn't tried it personally though

Well I have tried many types of fish but never dabbled in Killies. Reading my fish books I have always wondered why I have never even seen any as they are very different fish. Is there any information or books that cover the killies in general. I would like to know things like: do they require a species only tank, can you mix two of the same speicies, can you mix two different species, what is the best set up for general keeping of killies, what is the best set up for general breeding of killies, where do killies come from, what makes them unique and a whole lot more that, knowing nothing about killies I don't even know to ask Any help appreciated Daniel

Thanks guys it could be 32mm I measured o/s diameter 32 is probably i/s Every thing else seems fine, I haven't designed my overflow I thought it would be a little less costly if I get the stand pipe in then measure what I need rather than work from theory Cheers for your help hopefully by the end of next week I should have a fully plumbed tank. Next step joining the tank to the sump/ fuge Regards, Daniel

I havn't had a chance to update my thread yet but am after some quick help. I am currently setting up my durso standpipe, this is all going well (except I drilled that glass in the wrong place and had to make a couple of mods but this is ok now. I have done a couple of things different to what is reccomended on the page the main one being that I drilled a 43mm hole so have used 36mm bulkhead rather than a 25mm I assume this will be ok?? My question is for the plumbing at the bottom going to the sump (as the sump isn't directly below can I run flexable piping or will this reduce flow too much? I have read two oppinions on this and not sure which one to follow, more interested in doing it right than money (of course money is always a factor) Thanks Daniel

congrats beachy Don't know if anyone gave this web address but it might help anyone wanting to do a stand pipe http://www.dursostandpipes.com/

goody time to spend more money In terms of planting the plants does anyone have any tips in getting the placing right first time? Is it better to start with large plants at the back and work forward getting smaller each time or start with small plants at the front and work your way back getting bigger every time Will try post some pics after easter when it is all looking a little beter Regards and thanks for your help so far, Daniel

Cheers pies, It is for my personal tank but in Napier now. a few to many hours setting up the store and playing with my fish came between my partner and I, so I have moved perminantly to napier. I will PM you a little closer to the time when I am ready to start adding stuff
-
I was going to start my tank in a house I was renting, but that was more because I was planning on buying the house from my land lord. Luckely I didn't as the move to Napier was hard enough with my freshwater tank setups I think it would have been almost impossable with marine
