  3. Cheers, I am about to go down to rexcell to see what ho t5 units they have and I'll adapt the hood fit off memory it is about 1 watt per litre for plants isn't it (rule of thumb) soo 300 - 400 W should be fine for me, if this is the case then should I take the whole hood off and have fans aimed at the surface?
  4. wow looking good as always. Your photography is awesome
  5. Sounds like a good excuse to go al out and buy a really big one to justify the freight cost
  6. I would be interested in making a trip up and your area sounds nice fay.
  7. Yeah, getting heaps of posative feed back somthing that Napier has needed for a long time apparently. In fact it is a little too good I am getting a pretty sick of 16-20 hour days, still good to get it all going while I don't have any attachments (wife and children)
  8. cheers, guess I'll have to get an arcadia t5 unit, does anyone else sell t5's in New Zealand?
  9. I have an eheim profecianal 2 and found also that it wasn't worth using the primer. The new model being released (the profesianal 3) is suposed to be alot better for priming.
  10. Lol, Thanks for the warm welcome.
  11. I am currently setting up an Aqua One UFO 880 corner tank as a planted discus tank. I have a few questions and would appreciate your advice. For thoes that don't know what the ufo 880 is it is a 300 litre corner tank that is 1210mm across the front 765mm along the back two sides and 650mm high. It comes with an over head power filter, and built in light hood (Two 30W lights and One 20w light) As it is quite high I am wanting to know weather I need to re-design the hood to fit in some ho t5 lights if so does anyone know how to do this or have any advice. Also I am after some nice High growing plants, I have plenty of shorter plants and a few middle sized plants but dont have any plants taht are nice and long can anyone reccommend a type of plant that would be good? is it better to inject co2 straight off a bottle or use a yeast mixture? Thanks Daniel
  12. I am not new here but haven't been on in a while so thought I would say hello again. I Haven't been on in a couple of months as I have been busy starting my company. For thoes who have never met me: I am a fish enthusiest (who cant spell) I got into the hobby almost 2 years ago with a 2 foot fishtank my girlfriend brought me for my 21st birthday present. The fish addiction grew very fast (and is the reason my girlfriend and I broke up 2 months ago) I have both tropical and cold water fish but am only just beggining to learn about cold water fish. I have a tropical marine tank cycling and a sea horse tank cycling. Once the fore mentiond tanks are set up I plan on setting up a planted discus tank and then an african cichlid tank. Regards, Daniel
  13. Very good point, much more viable still deerer though. Although eventually things will change and breeding of fish and propogating may be more viable. I was talking to an international sales rep from red sea about how far the industry has come in the last few years and what the manafacturers have lernt recently it was quite interesting, especially being a newby in the saltwater hobby.
  14. speeking of fragging corals, I have heard there is someone looking into fragging corals on a commercial level in New Zealand. It will be interesting to see how that goes. Personally I would pay more for a fragged coral than an imported coral and once my tank has finished cycling I will buy some frags the problem is I don't believe there would be many customers that would think like me (well I know how few I have that are like that).
  15. cheers everyone, went for the aquarium water which was free. Sory there arn't any photos comming yet as I have been way too busy at work but will post as soon as I get a chance
  16. Hi there, I am planning on collection the water for setting up a reef tank and a sea horse tank tomorrow and was wondering if any one knows where in Napier to collect water from. I have been told the aquarium supllies it but it is filtered and was thinking that this would pull out the phytoplankton and other goodies for the fish too feed off. Any advice apreciated Regards, Daniel Newton
  17. Yeah you were right plecs $40 isn't a bad price unless you could get them from a breeder I read they are being considered an at risk species as their population is so low
  18. they sell them for too much where you work plecs that is why you are asking
  19. good on you modern angle, when you are interested in a reef tank talk to pies he is in wellington
  20. what is the under water grass (third photo on the first page)? where do you get it from?

    Miracle Mud

wow that looks impressive, quite interesting being a begginer and all I have read has said get a big skimmer, yet this is running without one
  25. dont let an exporter organise frieght, New Zealand is a deer place to export products into and they don't get good deals let them organise their internal freight (as they get that alot cheeper) and use a local freight fowarder for the shipping and our internal freight
