  1. Hi Spooky, your comment about growing more of what does well in your tank made me laugh because that's exactly what I do in my garden - and its what I plan to do with my tank. I figure if I muck around trying to get the conditions right for a 'difficult' plant, it might adversely affect the ones that are doing well.
  2. I think they will probably grow, although it will be slower. Many plants need iron so if you get a fertiliser make sure it has iron in it - and no phosphates. From what I understand, phosphates will encourage algae growth. I have some chelated iron donated to me by Cees, and I've made up a very diluted solution which I use to dose the tank daily - just one drop a day. I do this in all the tanks, including the ones with only gravel and UG filters and the plants are growing slowly. Cheers
  3. What lawn grass that never needs mowing? I want some. LOL Would glossostigma do? I don't know much about it yet but I believe its low growing if there is sufficient light. Cheers

    L shaped tank

Sheeshh, two replies and I still managed to forget some of the answers. I got the lights from Twiglands - a garden centre locally. Price on box was $130 but I got them for $89 each - on special and with a 10% discount. I've seen the same brand at animates.

    L shaped tank

I will also try to post separate pictures of the angles and some closeups. I tried today but there were too many reflections on the glass so I might try again tonight. I used a tripod but the photos still looked blurry, I am wondering if its the effect of the glass ......... but I'll keep trying. Cheers again

    L shaped tank

Thanks everyone I agree it does look bare in the corner Caryl. Its almost impossible to photograph that bit and its also very difficult to see into the back corner - its almost like an optical illusion, the fish appear to swim right 'off the screen' and then reappear somewhere else. I have two pieces of driftwood there to hide the paraphenalia and an amazon sword between them, towards the back of the corner. I am hoping that it will help show up the corner as it grows bigger - the green will be easier to see than the black background. The lights are Ocean Free brand. These ones are called the super classical light set - 120cm. Each light contains 2 flourescent bulbs - 30w. Thats all the info I can find on the box, I suspect I might need more lighting later but it seems fine now.

    L shaped tank

Hi everyone Cees is not approving replies in the Member's Tank sections and I can see why - it will be much nicer if it just consists of photos. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=4720 link added : cees But I am keen on seeing the replies because I want the feedback. Can I ask if you would put any replies here ............ and if those who have already replied are willing, perhaps they would repeat it here. Thanks Jude
  9. Oops, sorry everyone. I did want him but on the way home I realised he was likely to wreck my tank - too big for all the new planting. I had a mental block and couldn't think of anyone who might want him so went to the pet shop. Glad you got him mystic but I wish now I had thought to put him in a bucket and ask on this list I promise to give it more thought next time ..........

If it is a golden zebra its really peaceful. Its the yoyo who is getting nasty. I took some photos of them today, if they come out ok I will post them Cheers

Hi Plecs I don't really know what loaches I have, the petshop didn't know so I spent some time on the net trying to id them. They are definitely both botia and I am positive one is a yoyo (pakistani) loach because the Y's and O's are very clear. I think we decided the other must be a golden zebra (or a name fairly similar) but its a while ago now so the memory has faded ..................... LOL Whatever they are, they are both very attractive fish. I've just moved them into the new 'big' tank and already the Yoyo is having a go at the other fish - so I might not be able to keep him He attacks the golden barbs, the pearl, golden and dwarf gouramis. So far all he has left alone are the bristlenoses ........... sigh! Cheers Judy
  15. And a Merry Christmas to you too, Warren .......... or even a sober and sensible one .......
  16. Interesting post, thanks Suphew Now, do you have the remedies as well?
  17. Hi Caryl I would really like some glossowhatsit please. I can either send you the money or give it to you on the 15th Cheers Jude
  18. WOW!!! I love it. What's the reddish plant? Jude
  19. jude

    Lost one

I had a cat do that too. Luckily I caught her as she leapt out and yelled for my sons to come and pick neons out of her fur ...............
  20. Suphew suggested we put an old UG filter plate in the bottom of a container and put the soil on top of that - it stops it getting wet and slimey and is a quick, easy solution. Cheers Jude
  21. Breakaway - I drink it from the tap but unlike the fish I don't have to live in it
  22. I use them because our water is heavily chlorinated. I can often smell the chlorine when I turn a tap on.
  23. Hi to Billaney's fry.................... LOL
  24. I've spent ages over the past few months browsing that site. Just hope that one day I can achieve something as nice
