  1. Why? What else could have done it? Jude tries her innocent look!!!! Just out of interest, what is the wall made of? Cheers Jude
  2. I'd agree with Bridget. I didn't see it this time but with the largish Wairarapa earthquake a few days ago my fish were really agitated before it struck. My cats took no notice of any of them but one freaked me out afterwards. She kept frowning suspiciously at the floor ........... leaving me convinced another was about to hit ............. LOL. I guess she was just confused and checking out it was going to stay where it should be Cheers Jude
  3. I believer the best bet is to have it sitting inside a frame and for that frame to be bolted to the wall - especially at the top. Not easy to do with an L shaped one ........ The water in mine sloshed alarmingly but didn't splash out of the tank. Wouldn't have taken much more for it to do so though. I just got out of the way - didn't fancy being showered with broken glass, water and fish ...........
  4. Darn, Caryl beat me with the joke - I was gonna ask how you milk micro worms .........
  5. Caryl, have you seen Alan's belly? And whizzing round the tank is normal cory behaviour, as is dashing to the top for a gulp of air.
  6. I've already told Anthony I have plants he can have and I can give him cuttings from about 5 different ones. I will be home tomorrow afternoon and evening Anthony if you want to call up and get them. Cheers Jude
  7. Alan (or Pegasus) once suggested I mix up a slurry of peat, clay and water then freeze it into iceblocks. Slip that under the plant while still frozen to avoid making a mess. I havent tried it yet but it sounds sensible - dont think it would stay frozen long enough for the cold to hurt the plant Cheers Jude
  8. I got that from a garden centre too - its the same brand (Dalton's) and according to Suphew and the garden centre man, it is pure peat with no additives at all. The garden centre is called Twiglands and I am not sure if they are local or national. You might have to ask a garden centre to order it in for you but its a lot cheaper than anything from pet stores. Cheers Jude
  9. Sorry, couldn't resist that. My tank is growing well with a clay base. I used Dalton's aquatic mix for the clay - about $15 for a big bag and available at garden centres - Suphew recommended it. He mixes his with peat but I just used the clay and put peat in the filter. I used about 2" of clay and covered that with 2" or more of gravel. Cheers Jude

 Alan I think a triangle is a triangle. Three angels would be a triangel wouldn't it. Or a trioangel - any more would be a school ......... rofl

I thought it was a great question and one I wouldn't even have thought of asking. Just shows you have a questioning mind. Just as well they are egg layers - imagine giving birth to triangles
  15. Congrats to Mummy and Daddy, bet you are both very proud parents ...........
  16. Ahhh! Glad that was explained. I was worried that everyone would think I was hallucinating
  17. I love the changes ballistic and I like the way the driftwood hides the heater. Are you going to grow anything on the wood? Plants are looking good too - won't be long before you are trying to find places for all the cuttings .......... LOL
  18. I second that - just pm me or email me at [email protected] if you would like to come. We would love to see you and lots of us are beginners. I got my first tank last August. Cheers Jude
  19. I saw Dawn's tank. The post was in the list when I clicked on "show posts since my last visit" so I went and looked. Then later, Billaney said he couldn't see it so I went and looked for it and it had disappeared. All I can think is that there must have been a glitch where it appeared momentarily, perhaps before it was approved, and then went into hiding again. I dunno, I'm as puzzled as all of you but I know I saw it

    grass

The lileopsis in my tank was all bought from a garden centre and was growing emersed. I put them in a plastic bin with water halfway up the sides of the pots, then gradually increased the water over a period of 3 weeks. I didn't know if it was what was recommended but it seemed to make more sense than suddenly drowning it. They are still looking very happy fully immersed in my tank and they've been there 3-4 weeks now. Cheers Jude PS. The 3 wk time period was because that's how long I had to wait for my new tank to arrive - so its probably possible to do it more quickly
  21. I'd love to hear how it goes. It looks very attractive in there and I wouldn't mind using it if it lasts ok cheers Jude
  22. I thought everybody did that - but you might copy from something i haven't seen. Its a pretty tank, can't wait to see it with real plants Cheers Jude
  23. I keep going to the freshwater photo section hoping for a chance to see other peoples tanks. Please everyone, post some of your pictures there. I love looking at what others have done and get some great ideas from them. Cheers Jude
