You will be fine to remove that brace. Can't see how it would reduce the safety factor as much as Warren said. Alot of 3ft tanks only have bracing on each end and thru the middle. Go for it.

You can get the aqualina? range, brooklands has them.

Why not drop the height a bit, then you could use thinner glass.

Most should go off in 24hrs. Have added water that quick. If you want to be really safe a good rule of thumb is about 1mm per day.

Holes and any cuts need to be done before it is toughened. Laminated is ok for the reason you said however it is not as strong.

I would just use 12mm annealed, no great advantage in going toughend

Yes it is legal as long as you do it the right way. You need to get the right papers both here and where the item came from. It is amazing what you are able to bring in.

I had 3x 3ft tanks running on the biggest eheim. Worked really well.

Acrylic would scratch. I would have thought 2 panels would be better anyway, well strength wise that is. I would also think glass would be cheaper than acrylic.

19mm glass is quite easy to get in nz. You would have to look at using a couple of viewing panels. You could also use natural light. I think this would be a better option. Some well placed skylights would do the trick.
