Is there any chance the other clown or the six line may be bashing it, sounds strange that it got sick as soon as it hit the water.. Was it looking ok at the shop

    clown question

Are there any other fish in the tank? Does the fish look healthy? other than what you have already said?
  3. Hard to know, it may bounce back on put on a heap of size. If you had a tank setup plus some spare gear including skimmer then it might be worth a go. Depends on what is wrong with it, may never get better or take weeks to come right. If it is sick then it shouldn't be for sale. Offer no money for fish like this anywhere.
  4. Does that make it right??? Whats the total water volume of that system its in?? well over 100ltr.
  5. I would leave it, you would need at least a 3ft tank depending on size and then bigger again once it grows. Could be hard to find mates for it to.
  6. Tropical, looks like the ones i had. Also had some blue ones which were cool.

    Fmxmatt's Upgrade

When i was speaking to Fmxmatt the other day about lighting i explained that i had used MH on my tank. 2x250w with the lumarc reflectors, tank was about 700high. Don't get me wrong i do like the way MH look. I also found i couldn't keep acros right down the bottom as they were just not getting enough light, and the light they were getting wasn't reaching the sides of them. I then went on to say that if i set up another tank i would drop the height to no higher than about 600mm and use T5s because i felt i would get a better light spread, i could hide the unit in under a hood and hopefully not over heat the tank quite the same. Another personal reason was i found it hard to decide on what bulbs i liked and the different brands were not that common, out of the three or four sets of bulbs i brought two cam from overseas. At least with t5 bulbs you can get them local, if the look is not blue or white enough for you, change a bulb and they were really cheap to buy. OH and my tank was BB so not sure why i said sand

or you put them higher up on the rock work. Sure you may not be able to put them on the sand but then a lot of tanks with halides you wouldn't be able to put acros on the sand.

    Fmxmatt's Upgrade

The Halides will over power any fluro bulb when the come on as all there light is coming from a single source (point source). The thing i like about fluro bulbs is 1. They can fit in under a hood, you don't have the big reflectors hanging above. 2.Your spread of light is even throughout the tank 3. you can spread out the cost of bulbs over the year, replacing 1 or 2 every month over the year. 4. You don't have quite the same over heating issues like with MH. If i was to start another tank i would be going with T5s, i wouldn't go back to halides. At the end of the day it is personal choice and it really depends on what you like the look of. In so far as coral choice I can't think of anything that you couldn't keep under T5s.
  10. Bring it round if you like and we can have a play, i have another couple you could try to.
  11. i agree, as a rule there tanks are fine, look nice and have a good price tag. The only one i would avoid it the 620t for reasons discussed.
  12. From memory those tanks are around 600mm high. Glass thickness was the issue, the curved bit gets thinner as you would know. Also some of the aqua one tanks i have repaired in the past have not had polished edges around the top, some were very rough indeed. My thought would be it would have started at the top. As warren said, the store that it was brought from should replace it as it is a common problem with that size.
  13. Yeah, a large plastic water tank sounds good. As stated dig into ground by 1/2 to a 1/3. You could cut a viewing window into the top part, say top 800 - 1000mm that way you wouldn't need glass that thick - well compared to if it was towards the bottom. How about a pool cover for the top?? Go and talk to a swimming pool shop and discuss heating.
  14. I have quite a bit left over in my garage, it is what i used on my own tank so you know it would be safe. Flick me a pm and you can come and grab some if you like.
  15. Only if a high dose is used, it was developed as a anaesthetic.
  16. That would be me.. Wasp. When they were brought in they were called cypraea spp (Money Cowrie) There are a lot of diff types a http://www.oceanlight.com/cypraea.html

    advice please!

I've read its good to put artic blue lights on 30-60mins before and after the white light to replicate dawn and dusk, does anybody do this? Does it benefit the coral? Lots of people do, and im sure lots don't. I like the look of the dusk/dawn thing. Also hows a good idea to form a reef stand to sit live rocks on? what can I make it out of? Yes, its good to keep as much of the rock of the bottom as you can to allow water to flow thru. You can use, cut pieces of pipe, bar mesh stools, egg crate (light difusers) or and undergravel filter plate. You could also drill holes and insert acrylic rods what ever you like really. Is an undergravel filter a good idea? NO I've got a 30L tank with heater and basic tropical filter system, could I use this as a hospital/qaurrantine tank?? Sure My filter is a Jebo 819, its got several different media, what order should they go in? Don't bother even using it
  19. unit fine if cheap, its the tablets that cost
  20. Use Filway transport, thats who i use and have never had a problem. Should be about $130per m3 +gst, not that dear.
  21. no need for the turps, a good blade will get it all off. Damp cloth works to.
