  1. I was up there over christmas, and bought five convicts, which i love to death they are my pets, and are my first personalty fish. And i bought 5 huge fat krebensis, bought them home yesterday and all the krebensis died :'(
  2. do not use mineral water for a tank unless you are going to put fish that can handle, hard water, such as livebearers. Shae 250
  3. GUYS! DO NOT USE ANY LIQUID FORM OF FOOD! that liquifry stuff is useless, for the amount of energy spent to get what little of the food that all floats down into the gravel, plus most of the food in those is too small for livebearer fry, it is not worth it, When i first have fry, I start them off on some crushed up flake food, then about a week later i move them on to small daphnia, then i chop up some white worms, and then they get frozen mossy larvae. But if you dont have access to that, just feed flake, they dont have to chase it to the bottom, they can eat it at lessure and they dont lose more energy than gained trying to eat it. Oh and i forgot to mention the liquid stuff polutes ur tank very fast. Shae 250

  6. They are long thin, Generally silver or grey with slightly darker strips, and big sharp teeth pointing out from a large strong bottom jaw. Shae 250
  7. Last week i tuned off the heater and filter to my big 160l tank to do a few things on it, then yesterday i went out there and relised i hadnt turned the heater back on, so all the fish (heaps of platy and guppy) where in 8-12c water, and they where fine and so where all the plants. Shae
  8. I doubt very much, they would be allowed in New Zealand, mainly becuase of the havick they could cause if they got into our waterways. But not only that you would need a very big tank to keep them. Just off the top of my head i think some special get to around 60cm. Shae
  9. I might have to buy another small culture off you again Ira, Mine is taking way to long to get back on its feet after halfing it and starting two bigger ones. Shae 250
  10. Why put a guppy in stagnent, de-oxygenated, dirty water? I dont know how you could call that a breeding tank if it was in such horrible condition. Generally you try keep the health of the tank as close to 100% as possible, I know my breeding tanks are given a water change every 3 days and get a gravel vac 1-2 times every month, And get a scrub on the glass regardless if there is or isnt visible algae. and have constant filtration. If you can not provide the above for your fish regardless of breeding, then you should not be keeping fish. Shae 250
  11. If You want paul shoot over here and grab a microworms culture off me, perfect food for the fry, and way easier than BBS. Just give me a ring or a pm Shae 250
  12. i dont think its gonna do much harm if it smaller than a 5c coin. Shae 250
  13. No Alan they are not together. Female Scheeli would not have eatin a Mal Scheeli twise there size in prime condition. They are not aggresive fish. And all my tank are in the garage my cat cant get in there, the problem is you'd be surprised how far away from there tank i have found fish, and the garage is full of places to hide, so even if it did jump it would be dead by know, hopefully one of the fry i have is a male scheeli. Shae 250
  14. yeah but where? If someone could even make it for me?? I'm quite happy to go slightly over $200 for a specific sized one, it would need to be a minimum of 150watt and 1600x300x300. or even if some1 could find me a cheaper thermostat?? Cheers Shae
  15. Dawn he was bigger than the females and was in a 300x300x200 tank with a complete lid, there is no way the females would have eatin him. Alan only two of th eggs collected hatched, i have a few dageti a few scheeli 1 gardneri and 4 nothobranchius korthause fry. Thanks for your condolences. Cheers Shae 250

  19. alright heres the situation, I got hold of my electrician showed him the file that Caryl sent me. He is able to get me the heating mat itself for $148+Gst and a thermostat for around $150, know i can afford the heating mat, but the thermostat is a bit expensive for my taste, I was wondering if any1 knew where to get a cheaper one, or if som1 has one that they would sell me? Cheers Shae
  20. Even some eggs of either species would be good. Shae
  21. hehe, where those the dodgy ones you bought at the show for cheap? Shae 250
  22. Yesterday i found my only male nigeriatum gardneri gold dead, on the floor of my tank! Nothing wrong with it absolutly no cause for death either. Then this morning i woke up to go feed the remaining of my killies and find that my male scheeli is missing, hes not in the tank with the two girls and it had a totaly covering lid, I pulled the whole tank apart to try and find him, and i looked all around the tank, everywhere, hes just disappeared, so im a assuming he must have jumped while i had the lid open? although i cant remmeber opening it exept for last night when i fed him white worms( and i watched him eat them). He was my favourite killie Both those killies where the only males of the species i had so if anyone has a spare male or two, that i could buy off them, it would be muchly appreciated. Shae 250
