maxxi1 got a reaction from Caryl in Notice of AGM 2022
AGM 2022 Important Information
Notice of FNZAS AGM August 20, 2022, 10am (Virtual Meeting) details to follow
The FNZAS Executive is calling for nominations for the Executive for the
2022-2023 year.
To help people make a choice on becoming an executive we have attached a very brief overview and expectations of each position, please note the position descriptions are out of date and will need to be modernized.
Please note we need to ensure that the people who take on positions understand it is voluntary and they will need to commit time to positions and meet minimum requirements. The upcoming years ahead are vital to the FNZAS with the new Incorporated Societies Act being implemented.
All positions are deemed vacant therefore incumbents are required to re-submit nominations as in previous years.
Patron
2 x Vice Patron
President
2 x Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Editor
Breeding Co-Ordinator
1 – 3 Committee members
Anyone seeking nomination must be a financial member of the FNZAS at the time. If the nominee is not attending the AGM we also require written consent to stand for office sent to the Secretary prior to the AGM. No nominations will be taken from the floor, unless there are no nominations/not enough nominations for a particular position.
Please send all nominations to [email protected] along with a Bio and Photograph prior to 31 July 2022 to allow time for these to be distributed to clubs and their delegates given voting instructions by their members.
Remits
Please send any remits your club has to [email protected]
Delegates
Clubs have until 31 July 2022 to submit the names of their delegates for conference to me. If you have changed your delegates since your last AGM, and you want your club to have a say at this meeting or be able to vote, it is important that I get this via email prior to 31 July 2022. We don’t want clubs missing out.
Attendance
Owing to recent changes to our social structure due to Covid 19 effects an all-online AGM will be once again offered to our members. Observers are also welcome.
Thank you
FNZAS Secretary

maxxi1 got a reaction from nomad fish in How to change filter pads
rule of thumb is no more then a third total filter media at once. As Caryl said, if you change it / them over a few weeks it should be okay
Are you sure its cotton wool and not the white filter sponge, which you may be able to clean in some old tank water and put back in and then replace when it starts to impact your filters flow

maxxi1 got a reaction from nomad fish in Free Bristlenose - Wellington - Semi Urgent
Hi Fishboy, I have a fish room in Upper Hutt if you need to rehome him or switch him for one of my many bristlenoses you are more than welcome, if he really is a bit like you say we have Multiple tanks so he can go into one of his own if needed.

maxxi1 reacted to Caryl in What's happening to my plant?
Anubias do not like their roots planted too deeply. Thy are often tied to bits of driftwood or rock. I see it still has the metal around the base. Remove this. Sometimes a plant will drop leaves when introduced to a new environment, due to stress.

It looks to me like the plants have been grown emersed and are having a struggle converting to submersed growth. You can sometimes have better luck if you put these plants in a glass of water on the window sill until they grow roots.

Ok people, we have our venue booked. 😁 Heretaunga Boat Club on the Esplanade in Petone.
6th and 7th of June
Now that we have a time and place, we are still needing an idea of numbers so we can plan what's going to be happening over the weekend and who may need to be billeted for the night 👍

maxxi1 reacted to livingart in Welcome to New Zealand Reef Keepers.
We would like to welcome our first online club to the Fedration of New Zealand Aquatic Societies
It is the facebook group NewZealand Reef Keepers https://www.facebook.com/groups/nzreefkeepers/
They represent the marine keeping side of our great hobby and being an online club also represent the FNZAS moving into the more social media pathway our hobby as taken over the last few years.

maxxi1 reacted to Caryl in Tank blow-out... heard a 'pop' the other night!
For the moment, drop the water level to relieve the pressure. Your stocking level is low enough to take the smaller volume of water.
I was once told a tank should be re-siliconed every 10 years. My own tank is probably as old as yours and every time we have a quake I wait for the seals to give way
It sounds to me like this might be a good time to pass the fish on to someone else and please your wife. She has put up with it for 20 years so now it is time to move it on. You could give the tank and all its bits to someone able to replace the brace.

maxxi1 got a reaction from Silverdollarboy2 in Maxines killis - Akure adventure
Thanks to Rodney I have an amazing pair of Fundulopanchax Gardneri Clauseni Akure.
These fish are sooo friendly and barely hide away from me... the males a chunky monkey haha and is rather round. He has beautiful colouration as does the female.
Food ... lucky for me these are the only fish I've not had an issue with if they are hungry they will eat but their fav is white worms and they gobble them down super fast.
Breeding .. the set two have the sex life we all dream of hahahaha litterally they will swim by each other and cuddle up and lay an egg.. hahaha so I've been using spawning mops and two or three at a time as they like it thick... they spawn at the very top of the mops eggs start to hatch about 14 days later but as I only have a pair the number of eggs isn't great yet. Trios would be superior.
I have about 15 babies ... they are now two months old they were removed from parents tank Dec 24 2015. The eggs were removed then...
Good fish for learners the eggs are not as big as gold panchax but they are very motivated to spawning.
Tank set up is divided killifish tank... full lids they jump. . Higher then I ever will also... 2 spawn mops... a tiny peice of java and currently this is now a potted amazon sword... which they try to breed on... and a sponge filter I have been trying to maintain tank temp at 24ish but this heat has been pushing it up to around 27 and higher and this also hasn't seemed to affected them.
Water changes are often and I add black water extract ( my secret weapon) tonic salt and some peat to the floor every now and then.
