  1. sorry  From what Pies and Ira have said there arent any stores in wellington that sell marines but in saying that Pies and Steve both have very impressive tanks so it is doable
  2. as fish waste enters the water it breaks down into ammonia that then in turn turns into nitrite that then turns into nitrates. ammonia is toxic to fish as is nitrite, nitrates are not good in high ammounts but will almost always be present un at least very small amounts if you add fish to an aquarium to fast then the bacteria that breaks down these chemicals are not present in numbers high enough to break down the fish waste and the fish risk death.
  3. hi, first of all im assuming you bought the tank home set it up, filled it, heated the water and added the fish?? if so the most likely reason they died is what they call new tank syndrome, meaning that the tank had not gotten into its rythm, you'll hear about cycling a tank and stuff like that. the most people loose alot more fish before they learn patience and learn about the pets they keep, good on you for finding the site
  4. my bad i wasnt very clear in my question. Why install it on the closed loop as opposed to the return from sump? my thinking is to have 4 holes towards the top of the tank and just go with a scwd type setup, back and forth from one to the other. that way the closed loop can be for lower down, like a spray bar setup to elimanate deadspots under rock work
  5. chimera what was the reason for reccomending me to have the squirt on a closed loop??
  6. has everyone checked out the tsunami video on the oceansmotions site??? would be a great product to have, as long as the waves are a little lower
  7. nice looking fish PP, and chimera. every blue tang seems to have its own little personality and different look
  8. yeah i was looking at them a while ago, but couldnt find any in 240V that suited my needs
  9. well i had a guy i know over for dinner tonight, he really liked my flatworm breeding tank and it turns out his company is the supplier for Little Giant pumps here in NZ. neato, ill have to look at their specs
  10. in the end they really are the same thing other than the size
  11. Back to me now Ocean motion doesnt do a 240v version of the squirt (only the 4 way)
  12. i can see it slowing to a crawl, not falling though unless there is some kind of depression scenario, people arent willing to sell for less than they buy unless they are forced to. at the moment we live walking distance from my work and so i save 50 dollars a fortnight on parking/petrol and then there is the time factor.
  13. where do you actually by the ocean motion products?? (best place??) the super squirt looks like a good product, so its either that or the 90 degree sea swirl
  14. my return isnt going to be more than 4 feet, but i have heard that eductors create a higher back pressure i see that i have 3 options, one is the eductor option above 2nd get a seaswirl or two (one on each side) 3rd a 4 way ocean motion what do you think peeps?? just wanting to get the most bang for my buck
  15. nice pics fay, looks like youve got a great selection there
  16. yep tropical kina apparently some of them eat corraline algae
  17. so anywho im thinking a smallish iwaki (is it the rlt?? that has a better presure rating?) for the return pump that splits into two pipes with an eductor on both
  18. please edit that before my wife sees it
  19. i dont dissagree with you guys, its just that with plumbing you need very specific pieces and when your looking for it its not like its going to be available and when your selling its not like someones looking for that specific piece or size
  20. where are you planning on getting the light from?? its easy enough to reinforce a stand if your worried about howmuch it will hold
  21. might get into trouble for looking at that on my work computer  should have made my statement a little clearer, i would love to see that happening but not at the cost of the other animals in my tank. the occasionall release like my fungia or other various things imo are benifitial to the tank, but a mass release of acros would kill my tank. ie not good
  22. the beautifull thing is how quick they arrived (and with no gst  )
  23. id prefer my fish to live and just frag the corals rather than have cloudy water and dead fish idealy the right environment should be there to encourage natural behaviour but that is one thing i dont think id like to see on that note though my wife saw my purple fungia releasing some eggs/sperm, i only saw the litte specs floating around the tank after it happened
