  1. poor little fishies they dont know what to do, half of their little brains are telling them to play in the current while the other half tells them to run for their lives
  2. well after a short trip to the local electrical supplier and a small distraction of signing my life away for the next 30 years, the seios are in and running one is using the casing on it and the other is not. i think i will remove the casing from the second as well the first thing i noticed was that it was like a little tornado was being turned on then i noticed that the xenia was almost being blown off the rocks then i noticed that even though there is about 5x the total flow now, it seems alot more peacefull without the little jets of water from the normal power heads. all good so far
  3. i dont have one yet or a final plan, but i have bought a house and soooo once we are in and settled i can start measuring up. and this will be my cheap version of pies/chimera's threads good times
  4. oh well at least then my wife can blame me when the seios blow up
  5. i just received my first internet order from eaquanature the cost was one advantage and i was prepared to wait for them to arrive, but the good news is they only took 7 days to arrive (i would assume that a lfs would take longer to get it in) so tommorow after a quick trip to Dick smiths i will put in my seio 1100's into my 22 gallon tank the seio's will give me a 100x turn over i might only be able to use one . ill put up some pics tomorrow night
  6. she wanted a pink one but at the time we could only find a blue one

    clams

lucky guy go talk to the local fish store and order one through them, murray will help you, and then theyll order the clam from the importer (reef or steve) you might want to put a wanted ad in the private trade and exchange section as well im sure he'd prefer a crocea clam too
  10. hi claire she just likes anything pink. She wants to dress our little boy in pink clothes sometimes. and princess i already told you we need a bigger tank to get more fish, especially pink ones, they need the most room
  11. used to dive alot, not so much anymore (havent been since i was 19) will get out there again once we have a house sorted and i find someone to go with
  12. i say why not have both
  13. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/mar2004/aquarium.htm i thought this was interesting i love the idea of the self maintaining ecosystem and reproducing fish naturally
  14. if you have a power cut then how is your return pump going to work???
  15. i think value for money is more on the sea swirls as they dont reduce your flow, the scwds are a great idea but seem to reduce alot of flow
  16. thats right, return pump is low in sump and where the water returns to the main tank is high so the syphon doesnt drian the tank
  17. where your return pump is attached to the sump is tooooo high you want it to be as low as possible on the sump so that the pump never runs dry as long as there is some water in that compartment of the sump you want that as low as possible and where it returns into the main tank to be high enough not to empty the tank in the event of a power outage
  18. the importing issue with reeftanks is that most of the stuff is not available at most pet stores so importing your self opens up not only lower prices but also equiptment not available locally example- seio's, MH bulbs (at least not in hamilton)
  19. my tank is 88 litres and it has three fish, probably a high bioload. 2 x Percula clowns 1 x Sixline wrasse corals include leathers mushrooms xenia calustrea fungia favia zoos acropora montipora and hyndophora
  20. a comment on the way youve set up the return from the sump in hte event of a power outage of pump failure it will all syphon back down the tube into the sump flooding the sump then onto the floor and emptying the tank have the return higher
  21. what is the cost difference in running a 150w versus 250???
  22. are you sure it wasnt the dog??? at least it wasnt my shoes in there
  23. imo he's winning it, because hes right skimmers are just as benefitial for the fish as they are for the corals and for a begginer to start without one is asking for problems straight away. i know afew people here in hamilton that have either dead or dying fish because one local fish store does not reccomend skimmers at all for a marine tank
  24. as its sps dominated some form of calcium wether it be a kalk reactor or dosing manually
  25. water containers above are also required for ASW making i have two and for a bigger tank would have more
