  1. what does clove oil actually do? poisions them? you could always do what a lot of people do when out fishing. stick a sharp knife into the brain and give it a couple of twists
  2. So i've been looking around at different plants on the web... all of what has been sugested to me.. problem is there are different varities of each.. i'm just wondering if there is anywhere i can go where i can find what is avaible in nz? like that like to the fish list. Because knowing me i'll find something i absoulutely love the look of and then someone will tell me its actually a noctious weed and i'm not allowed it.. that way i also don't have to pester you people with dopey questions about plants... hehe
  3. haha complete dimwitt when it comes to anything to do with plants or anything along those lines here. obviously its super easy stuff then.. thanks i still have my wood water logging in outside bath at the moment but once thats done i shall be in touch
  4. going to look at getting some moss growing on some wood in this new tank set up. Wondering what would be my best option for a low tech system? cheers
  5. i was in the LFS today and their two firemouths were actually out and about up the front of the tanks. def look like firemouths..... i just couldn't help myself...... looks like i won't be waiting till chch for those fish :fshi: i think i understand that.....
  6. nah pc... i just don't pay much attention to what i am typing and can't spell very well
  7. awww its such a shame you need monster tanks to keep monster fish.. funny that huh? would love a few of those
  8. i guess then i shall stick to what i do with all plants above water then.. shove it in and if it grows then it grow and it doesn't try another one :bggrn:
  9. So after a short visit to the river after water level dropped enough this is what i found.. I have come up with a scape of how i want the substrate, wood and rocks to look... at least in my head anyways.. could look completely different infront of me as i am not that much of a creative person... I have however changed my mind once again about plants and decided to have some low growing ones around the rocks and all that (any thoughts of what ones?).. maybe some idian fern growing up at one end. i will have to research more though. Alas the buyer has pulled out of buying my electric yellows and the BGK so i won't be able to get underway as soon as i had hoped that is all
  10. i really need read what i've typed before i press submitt huh? haha :bggrn:
  11. Or they could just turn their little fish display tank into a cichlid selling tank..
  12. yeah we went to animates last time too didn't really excite me... organisms though.. we made the guy laugh when looking in the tanks as i explained to him that we don't get all the cool fish down here
  13. mine survived quite happily in a african cichlid tank so i personally don't see a problem (someone correct me if i'm wrong) as long as there isn't a huge difference in size
  14. yeah i've been or organisms before and its totally awesome. will get to redwoods this time too.. i'll quite happily buy my barbs and rainbow shark down here
  15. yes i was talking about the BGK. and really if anyone is being silly and taking chances its the buyer who wanted me to send it to auckland. but after reitterating that i accept no responsibility and would not be offering any refund if it died and how riskey sending a fish of this size was i confinced him to pull out of the sale. but anyway thats :smot:
  16. I'm not fussed if its "pure" as its told but with my limited knowledge of fish and the size of the firemouths they have there i have no idea of telling if it's close to what i see in the photos online.. i just didn't want to go buying one because it looks like one when its young and then find when its older that it actually looks nothing like i was wanting... also the fact we are going up to chch for a week in march and could quite happily wait till then and go to a couple of really good fish shops there.
  17. how big was the angle? and how big was the jag?
  18. I know if i go and by african cichlids from our LFS down here in invercargill they are more then likely some form of hybrid... But what about the amercian ones? i will be after a couple of firemouths in the near future. they have one at the moment about the right size with what i wanna start off with... i don't know if these cross breed or anything. so what are the chances of them being the proper real deal? cheers
  19. i was thinking more about the look of the fish... as if its about to breathe fire?
  20. yes it is a metal bath and yes i could do that but then i'd have to empty it and drag it (its bloody heavy even when empty) to somewhere where its safe enough to do that. i still have to get rid of stock in the tank so i'll just leave it for now.
  21. yeah its under rocks and fully submerged... nothing here will be able to move the rocks sept katie and i. only thing i have to watch is the water level with the dog drinking out of it. boiling it is far quicker but can't with that size.
  22. ok time for some photo's heres the tank at the moment. drift wood selection i am going to use. and that same driftwood in the bath water logging So the buyer pulled out of buying the electric yellow colony and after the email i sent him about the BGK i think he will also pull out of buying it. I really kind of hope they do TBH. Once again can anyone tell me if soaking the driftwood for two weeks will be long enough to water log it?
