  1. from black belt onwards its part of your gradings. because part of the training is teaching your body and mind to do it so you are graded on it
  2. Ok thanks. yeah i think they are beautiful.
  3. Looking at getting one early in the new year. i've read they can get up to 30 cm... is this a comman occurance? i'm guessing if they had corries as tankmates they would make tastey snacks? what other bottom dwellers would they be good with.. tank would be 300 litres and 1200mm long. cheers
  4. the seller with the blue tounges and small setup is who i was going to buy mine off after extensive research and asking her many questions the 70ltr tank would have lasted it a year and apparently they diddnt grow very big eg 10cms type thing i now have aquired my own hes a large dude jsut over 30cms and has a large tank hes 2 and very active in my opion the people selling the setups wouldnt know much lols
  5. Our breakings aren't power based.. i mean i'm 5 foot 3 and 57 kgs... and as you can see by the vids i'm not hitting it insanely hard so the chances of breaking hands doing it is pretty damn slim (unless you do it wrong). Also we point spar (Light to medium contact). as apposed to full contact. so hurting eachother that way is quite slim too. Mind you i nearly got knocked out by my oponent at last years nationals as i walked into a kick that he threw a bit hard and caught me under the shaw with the base of his heal
  6. cinder blocks are simply the most readily availble and cheapest form of concrete blocks. we also break bricks, paving stones and coconuts... your right back in the day in china they didn't break concrete they broke people in battle. We don't have that ability so we use concrete and the likes to show that our training is working. (both to ourselves and others). Yes you are right. karate is japananese. our style is based on a northern shoulin style that also encorparates (sp) tai chi when you get to black belt level
  7. The other question i have is that my LFS has its own barb tank... the tank is lucky to be 60 litres. but they have 20 - 30 small barbs in there. they have been there for quite some time now. if i get my tiger barbs from there will they be stunted? or going into a bigger tank are they gonna start growing to their proper size?
  8. ah love the look of the odessa barbs so i shall go with that. thanks
  9. ok then so what other barb would go better with tigers then? not green tigers or albino tigers though. defiently gonna stick with tiger barbs as i used to have them and miss their busy darting round the tank. they will be going with a small keyhole and a small firemouth cichlid as well as some emerald green corys cheers

    Barbs

Hey guys i'm gonna get some barbs again. i've been reading that if you don't keep tiger barbs in a group pf at least 6 they can get quite fin nippy. just wondering if it has to be a group of 6 tiger barbs as i was thinking of getting 4 tigers and 4 rubys. cheers
  11. I just thought i would share a few vids and photo's of my other great hobby.. Kung Fu. I am a first degree black belt and have my own club in Invercargill.. Here are a couple of youtube vids of me.. i'll add some photo and more links tonight when i have the time. Enjoy!
  12. at least shes not selling the tank... wasn't the easiest to pic up from dunners... walking up steep stairs with it..
  13. she wants a bearded (sp) dragon or a blue tongue lizard. personally i think shes crazy after all the effort she (and ofcourse myself) have gone to get all of that stuff and the fish (chch, dunedin and southland)
  14. Hey i'm going to convert my 140 litre to a small comunity tank. always had a thing for glass catfish... i know they are peaceful slow moving creatures that need to school but i'm wondering if they can be kept with something as active as barbs? cheers
  15. first year i was here the heat pump added about $100 a month to the bill... i didn't have fish then and it was never above $400. mind you i didn't have katie then either and the pump wasn't on all day and night. i think its gonna start being turned off durning the day
  16. haha ok then my bad i'm just going by what i have been told.. as i am on a salary so hourly rate really doesn't apply to me
  17. right list of heaters, 1 300 watt, 2 100 watts, 1 150 watt and 1 50 watter. so thats 600 watts in total for heating the tanks. yes the heat pump is huge 9 kw.. i know it uses a lot of power and my partner has it on 24/7 quite high but having a $800 power bill in november is a bit excessive.. yes it was a reading and yes they have added what was missed for the esitmates from the last two months but thats about $50 each month from what i've worked out from the contact website. thankfully with the online ontime payments and stoping a paper bill we have a 22% discount. our biggest one was about $950 this year.. for me my partner and a 3 month old that is bloody huge!
  18. hey i'm just wondering what it costs to heat a tank... we are getting some pretty huge power bills at the moment. we live in a big old poorly insulated house. yes we have a big heat pump but i don't believe it could be solely resposible for these bills. 5 or so fish tank heaters and lights running all day and night.. lights aren't running of a night time. plus the filter and air machines aswell
  19. Minimum wage is now like $16 an hour so your gonna get at least that. yes first stupidmarket i worked in was $5 an hour
  20. dude if your keen wouldn't mind coming in one day and having a look at your setups
  21. ahhh i can't wait till my brown haps grow up like yours.. i always liked the look of the snow whites too... well done. love the background
  22. don't get it down here i don't think... Should send a guy some.. haha
