  1. is the tank fully stocked? if not what else do you wanna put in it?
  2. weighing up my options for the new tank. I want electric blue fryier. any ideas what to put with them? tank is 2 metres 477 litres. Brown haps are right up there but I don't know how they would get on. possibly some Pemba's as well. cheers
  3. the English language is actually the hardest in the world to learn. "Their, There, They're" lots of ways to spell the same word differently with each spelling having a different meaning.
  4. :cry1: poor babys if i could ive have them in my big 2 metre tank
  5. Hey guys the New Zealand Nam Wah Pai Kung Fu National Tournement is being held in Wellington this year and we here at the Southland club are starting our fundraising to get there. we have 3 sausage sizzles coming up at mitre 10 mega in Invercargill on the 2nd, 9th and 22nd of june as well as another 4 at the Warehouse later on in the year with the earlist being the 12th of july. We have also just started taking orders for a traditional southland fundraising dish the cheese roll. we are selling them for $6 a dozen. I have gotten this recipe from a friend who has chefed in many cafes and it is by far the best cheese roll one i have tried. (i'm not just saying that coz we selling them). If anyone is interested in some please let me know and we can get some sorted A great chance for your northerners to find out what all the fuss is about with them :sage: Oh and by the way we are the only club in our style in the south island so we will not only be represting southland but the entire mainland! last year 6 of us went up and we came back with 2 firsts and 3 seconds :dnc1: cheers guys
  6. so does this mean all updates are gonna come here as well as MFK? So i don't have to keep remembering to go over there and have a look at your thread?
  7. My lovely lady decided to be funny and give me some her snails before she sold her tank.. anyways always like the look of the zodiac loach... will they munch the snails or do i have to get something like yoyo's?
  8. You mean to say the pantadon do more then just float at the surface? such weird looking fish
  9. looks awesome... any wood going in there?
  10. Try to clean out the canisters at least once a month. defiently don't leave it months on end. as we live in the wops power cuts happen.. specially where we be moving too in june can get snowed in once or twice a year. So in conclusion the bacteria feed on the gases in the water in the filter as apposed to the physical waste in there?
  11. do they not have to capture food for the bacteria to feed on?
  12. and the reason for using bio balls as well as ceramic noodles? cause the bio balls capture smaller pieces of yuck?
  13. both intake and output are at the top. though i'm guessing water shoots down the centre then comes back up through the filter. so going by that the sponges at the bottom then the wool in middle then noodles at the top?
  14. yeah the net says you can keep a pair of dwarf flags in a 60 cm tank as long as no other cichlids are there. 'The 850 is 80 cm long so. i'd be looking at a pair of dwarf flags and a single keyhole
  15. aqua one 850 165 litres... safe to keep a couple of dwarf flags with a keyhole in this size tank? cheers
  16. The canister filter that I currently have has 3 compartments in it.. bottom one has bio noodles in it the middle one has filter will and the top one has a couple of sponges in it. my question is would that second compartment be better with another lot of noodles in it or is it right with the filter wool? it never had anything in it when I bought the thing
  17. Yes its the one off trademe. and it is braced... along the top and bottom. the lady thought bracing meant being able to be attached to the wall.. I do believe it is what is called euro bracing
  18. ok thanks guys canister it is then. I will see what's around in a month or two's time.
  19. the house is a small 3 bedroomm but has a sleepout out the back which is gonna really be the only place we'll have room to put it. so won't be hearing it if i'm not out there haha no doubt Godly3vil will beat me to that as i don't have those funds spare atm. I can get quite a decent sized tank from the lfs for $50 as they are selling an old breeding setup. don't know the dimentions but it will defiently be over 100 Litres. i guess it would depend on the dimentions as to weather it would be sump material
  20. Hey guys and girls. we have not long aquired a big tank (206cm long 45 cm wide and 51.5 cm high) that was supposed to be used to house my partners bearded dragons. but she seems to have found a cheap cabniet at the local salvation army shop that shes gonna convert to an enclosure. so once i get round to getting organised after we move at the start of june and get the money to pay for the stuff i need i'm going to have a 477 Litre tank to play with. Should i be looking at doing some major sump research or just a big canister filter? would be looking for the cheapest most effective option. cheers
  21. elephant noses are weird looking fish... neat though. from what i have read on here i believe that size tank would be bare minimum for an eel i could be wrong though. my partner had a snowball.. beautiful plecs. as for a schooling fish.. are you just after something to use as feeder fish? if so why not go for something that will breed like rats and can get real cheap? Like the common guppies? seems a bit of a waste to me if you want to get anything more expensive then that just for feeder fish... though for something that you want to keep why not a school of barbs?
