  1. Right so time for an update.. BGK is sold! taking him for a drive to chch on the 20th of march.. just means i won't be getting anymore barbs till after we get back.. I am also picking up two tbars from trademe in chch. I suspect that i'm not milking so means i should be done at work round 4 pm. Will give me time to change to my new sustrate and have a bit of a change around and finally get some plants planted! We are right on the boundry of woosh so our internet sucks.. drops in and out of service all the time, makes uploading to photobucket quite difficult. but now that there is an ipad here and can upload with an app i will get katie to take pics of the progress.
  2. yep thanks Adrienne makes perfect sense Do you mean "don't like salt much"? I have just got a pictus catfish. so low dose with it?
  3. Jumping in here... with the salt... how often to the water do you add it?
  4. are we talking a full size chillie bin here? the size that you full up with ice and chuck your beer in? or can i use the slightly smaller size? will the airline for my airstones not be suffient enough?
  5. Ok so i originally bought 6 tiger barbs and 6 odessa.. BGK ate 4 of the tigers so i got another (bigger) 6... i am now down to only 4 Odessa's... even with feeding lots of flakes blood worms and sinking shimp pellets every night. moral of the story 30 cm BGK's do eat barbs!!!! haha i think i'm going to have to make a DIY tank divider
  6. The member is a bit concerned that a fish of this size might get too stressed out with the trip. i personally think it'll be fine but they are after some reasurrance... i'm not a boy racer so i see no reason for it to be too stressful as its a hardy fish. So i will get a chilly bin to transport him in and will take a hot water bottle just in case.... (can fill that up at most servo's that sell coffee) cheers
  7. Right... Got a memeber in chch interested in my 30 cm BGK. we will be driving up there on the 20th of march.. roughly 7 and a half hours or so with having to stop for the young one. I think best option to transport would be container long enough for him to be straight in.. couple of heat packs and wrapped in blanket? or do i just chuck the container in a poly box with the heat packs and pack it with news paper. i do have a couple of massive bags here that had fish sent to me in but i do think that the container is the best way? If the container is the best option whats the best way to put extra air into it? or is the size of it and volume of water with it gonna give him enough air for that period of time. I don't think the roads between here and chch are bad enough to worry about bumps along the way stressing him out to much as we live on gravel road and he's had to travel over pot holes to get to our place and did that without an issue. cheers
  8. from what i've read from other people (have never kept dems myself) they have big inter species agression... how many do you have in your tank? people say you need to keep them in at least groups of 10 so the agression gets spread around. she is spitting them out to eat by the sounds of it? how long has she been holding?
  9. If I one dollar reserve him it will state that it has to go into a tank at least the same size as he's in now. he's lived in smaller but it wouldn't be fair for him to go into one smaller then what he's been in now. i do like this fish and if i had the room i would keep him... he just doesn't fit in with how i am doing this tank unfortuantly. and really i don't want to wait to save up for a bigger tank before i can have my set up how i want it.
  10. hah do you want him back? I fed him blood worms and all. Really those ones that got munched were tiny.. i'm going to keep a light on at night time till i get a dim floor one sorted..
  11. So i got 6 tiger and 6 odessa barbs.. the 3 smallest tigers got munched by BGK last night and one other has no tail fin.. Left the odessa barbs alone. i'm giving BKG away now.
  12. from below the tank? pointing up from the floor? awesome pic.. loving the poster in the back ground
  13. Birchir is only bout 7 cm at the mo... i know when he gets bigger he could be an issue
  14. how much does a polar bear weigh if a wood chuck could chuck wood?
  15. would that not annoy the hell out him though? and the other nocturnal fish in there? (plecs and albino birchri) i guess they do come out durning the day anyways
  16. yeah alright we got a quite a bit of bloodworms at the moment and always heaps of flakes. katie quite regularly goes and gets him earth worms as well
  17. So I just got katie an ipad and we is trialing how good the camera is. heres a pic of my a couple of fish from it not that bad really Tank looks like crap atm.. doing a big fish shop on thursday.. fish and substrate. so will hopefully be moving the tank and changing things around and planting some plants on monday. wood still hasn't sunk. it won't be the final layout as we will be moving at the end of may to a new farm. will do the proper scape then
  18. 6 tiger and 4 green tiger. yes i do and i was thinking that. but i'd have to buy heater and light for it though. i suppose thats not much of problem. then when the albino bristlenoses arrive that that i'm going to buy on trademe they can in there if they too small aswell. haha i just wish someone would buy BGK...
  19. So i'm planning on getting some new fish on thursday. I have a 30 cm bgk in the tank these fish will be going into. some of the fish i will be buying are going to be 3 odd cm tiger barbs. His previous owner had him in with some neons and he let them live. but in saying that we have fed him guppies. there are a couple of 5 odd cm firemouths and a rainbow shark of the same size in there with him atm and he leaves them well enough alone. What do ya's reckon? should i risk it? cheers
  20. No wonder the dairy industry has such a bad public image... honestly its about 1% (if that) of farmers that are ruining it for the rest of us. I mean the cows are our bread and butter. most people take really good care of them
  21. as far as i know (someone correct me if i'm wrong) it'll be the most agressive to anything that looks like it. same body shape and the like and yes it will be too big for the tank and probably is already.
  22. ill give him a home lol my black moor is all by himself in a 144 litre katie :dnc1:
  23. been waiting for this thread to pop up :spop:
  24. :cophot: what is the fish is the last three shots?
