slowly! how about this?
1. syphon about half of the water out of the tank and into a new tank, dripping through a piece of filter wool to ensure no dust gets through.
2. get a separate large bucket and fill it with saltwater.
3. take each piece of rock out, put into the bucket and blow the rock out with a powerhead, transfer the clean rock into the new tank. do this for each and all rocks.
4. syphon the rest of the water from the existing tank through the filter wool again, til the new tank is fill (or dump a percentage of the water and replace with new saltwater)
i've decided i'm going to jump on the zeovit boat. have already read the documents and had some discussion with brendan. i guess it stems from my laziness more than anything, i do tend to overfeed a little, especially because the regal angel requires such a particular diet.
some of my corals have probably adjusted to the level of nutrients that currently exist (they are undectable, but I know they are there!) and do show signs of nice colouration (just not enough). generally sps growth is fantastic, colouration is lacking. i notice a couple small patches of slime algae (and strangely a patch under my seaswirl of black stringy algae - anyone seen this? lack of light and flow im picking?) so am taking that as evidence of nutrient levels.
i dont believe the extra light i added to be a waste of money as the tank definately needed it (have to raise it higher though, it's killer bright and makes the middle look washed out) better aesthetics at least.
now im just keen to get zeovit going and see how well the corals react. will be over a while of course as sps don't like sudden change. however at least i will find out whether the two chocolate brown acro's i got from reef are naturally brown or will show signs of colour... :-?
for anyone else having this issue...
steve says he puts it on his tank, no problem with bubbles. he finds out the problem is the brand of salt they use. this is backed up by what i found on the deltec web site...
Warick, I have heaps of baby snails in my refugium. You're more than welcome to a dozen or so. They grow reasonably quickly. All the catseyes I got from the beach only lasted about 3-6 months then died.
i would doubt it, unless the ambient temperature is approximately the same as what you wish the tank to be at. a tank wont act as insulation for another tank much
1st best was getting the tank actually in the wall, aquascaping done and all functioning, worst was changing return plumbing several times then half knocking myself unconscious and splitting my head open after smacking my head on the sump :-?
2nd best was getting my closed loop finished,... worst was not doing it properly
your salinity is bordering on the high side. try slowly dosing RO/DI water over the next couple of weeks to bring it down to 1.025 and see if this fixes it.
do you have acro's too?
one leather is not the same as another though
