  1. dont shoot the messenger just to throw a spanner in the works, your guys are predominantely SPS tanks, water conditions are optimised for SPS corals. if it was a completely soft tank (ie: unlikely to worry about a calcium reactor and not so intense lighting) could this have an effect on "how hard it is to keep?" btw, the temperature thing was only relayed from what borneman quoted.
  2. great idea. then we can put little propellers on their backside to make dead fish appear live
  3. More according to Borneman... the yellow tonga leathers dont grow as well compared to other leathers probably because they come from cooler waters. Maybe keep your tank temperature around the lower end of the scale and see what happens?
  4. next spare 2 hundy i have will be going to their pockets too...
  5. you would think most of his corals would be out of whack if his salinity was wrong (except perhaps mushrooms :-? ) yellow tonga's require medium care to keep. http://www.justphish.com/saltwater/softcorals/yellowtongaleather.htm http://www.aquahobby.com/corals/e_sarcophyton_elegans.php place it as low in your tank as possible (this is advice from bob fenner) then try moving it higher over time if necessary. can you elaborate a bit more? is it just a loss in colour or is it dying?
  6. moderately strong?! try either moderate or strong otherwise it confuses things. yellow tonga leather needs medium lighting and medium current. not strong lighting or current. try moving it down the bottom of your tank more.
  7. probably not for a while, no need for me personally - and a 2nd kid plus rennovations rocks the bank account a bit
  8. i ordered 4 from amazon today. will let those know who wanted them when they arrive.
  9. maybe it's the small airstone someone put in as a practical joke?
  10. yes indeed. well im about to start removing my lights and shift the 250's outwards a bit more to spread the light more evenly across the tank. i had another look at the 250's and noted that there are reflectors only on the sides of the box, at 45's or there abouts. no reflector at the top. where can you get good reflective aluminium from?
  11. i suggest you do the same reef, you're quoting information on a skimmer when it's first out of the box. since the first post it was indicated it has "worked fine for ages.." i also got the impression its already been running for a few days since it's been cleaned otherwise this topic would not have continued
  12. is there a crack in the plastic anywhere?
  13. cool. in that case, if you're selling your softback for $40, then you'll give it to me for free because "$40 is nothing"
  14. are you not contradicting yourself here? so its going to cost $140 from hollywood - if i was to drive there... at $60 a book through amazon thats shipped to my door. $60 from amazon, $100 from hff, that is a HUGE discount.
  15. how do you work that out? send it to telecom?!?
  16. cool, added to sticky http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/here-vp75310.html
  17. Through Amazon? $62.07 each and that includes shipping and includes GST AND thats for the HARD COVER version. Not wanting to turn people off LFS, but HFF is $102 for soft cover. Save $40 and get it in hard back. Its not rocket science. I have heaps of friends who order through Amazon all the time for all sorts of books.
  18. "a bit"??? just rang hollywood, $102 for a soft cover version. if you can wait 2 weeks its a big saving. gotta love online ordering, consumer wins... true, exactly what they said. not worth while for small orders then.
  19. marinedepot = US$161.48 including shipping. amazon is cheapest so far.
  20. who's right? there are several additives from what i've seen. im sure they dont magically re-appear in the bottle. irrelevant of how long they last, it's still an ongoing cost.
