  1. I use sand in my tanks and I keep multiple types of catfish and loaches with no issues.
  2. Bet it feels like the night before Xmas haha.
  3. Beach sand as said above looks great dude, usually keeps ph around 7.6 aswell in my experience.
  4. I received mine, thanks guys for your hard work
  5. It's all trial and error dude, took me this long to figure it out and finally got rid of most the algae, there is a little bit of green hair algae growing that took hold when I had to get my co2 bottle refilled but even that's minimal compared to the outbreak of bba I had about 2 months in.
  6. I usually do 2 25% water changes a week, only because I don't have a large enough container to store and heat water for water changes so have to resort to using the hose and with only 25% changes it only drops the temp by a couple of degrees. Sounds like you may prefer the Walstad method of planted tanks, from what I understand you only do water changes when evaporation forces you too.
  7. estimated index, heaps of info online about it.
  8. Yeah, I started using valrays ferts off trademe originally then moved onto ei dosing once that ran out.
  9. Yeah man, plain old beach sand. Cost me $5 for about 100kg.
  10. Thought I had better post a quick couple of updated pictures, everything's going really good. Spent awhile today making a diy spray bar for the fx5 I recently got from David, a bit of trial and error and 3 trips to mitre 10 and I got it done lol.
  11. Bleach dip will disinfect the gear, 1/20 part mix.
  12. Amazing scape Sam, well done!
  13. I have a tank in my room that only runs a sponge filter and every night I turn it off as the noise drives my partner up the wall and I have never once had an ammonia reading or nitrate. Tank has been running for over 12 months like this and have never lost a single fish from this tank.
  14. It's only 54ltr.....
  15. Cool, I'll be interested to see how they do. I agree, Raymond is really knowledgeable and a really top bloke, always keen to go the extra mile.
  16. It's going to look good dude, are those leds designed for planted tanks?
  17. Yeah my clown loaches gang has reached 13 now and they're taking a pretty hard toll on some of my plants, especially when they're eating the snails and eggs as they seem to puncture the leaves to get them all. I'm hoping once all the snails are gone that they start easing up on them.
  18. I had mine for about a year before he caught something off my guppies and died from some sort of parasite. I never kept them with anything other than similar sized fish though.
  19. Nice clean looking setup dude, I would have to agree with Caryl and be worried about the stand collapsing in a decent quake. You could look into getting a steel frame welded up to go inside the cabinet, I'm sure I have seen that before.
