I've kept a keyhole with apistos before with no issues, have you considered adding some peat into your filter somewhere to bring the ph down? Your only restricted on what apistos you want from the availability of them in NZ. Cockatoos are my favourite type that we have available quite often but as fishguy said it's hard to find a really nice specimen.

This chart is a really good way of getting an estimated reading of your co2 levels, it compares your ph and kh and gives you an estimate of what your co2 level is. Another way is if you know your constant ph level, when you add co2 you want it to drop a full point, example - before co2 comes on my main tank sits at around 7.2, once co2 has reached 30ppm (optimum level for plant growth vs health of fauna) it drops to around 6.2. Then over night it degasses and bounces back to 7.2.

Once you use sand you won't want to go back to gravel/fluorite ever again lol. Makes planting so much easier.

Couldn't have said it any better myself Sam. I just set up another tank with co2, it's only 130ltrs running 2 bps and that's more than enough co2 for it, will probably dial it down to 1 bps once I add stock. On my 450ltr tank the bps is so high I couldn't count it to save my life.

Try vaselining the O Ring before you think about replacing it. I have a few 2213s and never had to touch any of them other than replacing broken impellers that I break haha.

Sounds like internal flagellates, metronidazole is about the only thing that can cure it but is extremely hard to get in NZ.

Never used flourish iron but I would think dosing every second day would be enough to start with, iron is not that stable in water so needs to be dosed constantly from what I understand dude.

Have you thought about swapping out the cardinals for some black neons? I use them as dither fish in my apisto tanks and they leave the eggs and fry alone. -
