  1. They neglected to take the rotation of the earth into account and this explains the time difference. As the neutrino origin rotated closer to the GPS satellites, they took a shorter path and so appeared to travel faster than light.
  2. That sounds about right. Reckon on a 40% markup. 27 * 1.15 * 1.4 + 6.5 = $50
  3. Nightmare to clean I'd imagine if you insert it into the wall. What happens if it springs a leak? Will it damage the wall linings?
  4. The speed at which you walk on that train is relative to the train. Everything needs a reference frame. Remember that we are on a planet that is rotating on an axis, is hurtling around the sun in a galaxy that is slowly rotating as it moves through space.
  5. Actually if were all sucked into a black hole, we might not notice anything .. except the stars would be moving very fast as for us time would stop relative to the outside universe! Oh yeah, and the moon might have returned to the pacific causing a few waves.
  6. You could borrow mine .. but you'd have to come and pick it up!
  7. There was a remote possiblity a black hole would be created that would destroy earth .... we've been lucky so far, otherwise I wouldn't be typing this. In an alternate quantum reality there's nothing anymore orbiting our sun at 1 AU.
  8. If you're talking about the Presario 3000 desktop and not the laptop, then you can remove the drive and put into an adaptor that has either IDE or SATA connectors, and then plug via USB into another PC. That way you can access the drive contents.
  9. the radial flow filter ( the upper shub ) removes the fish solids only. Any plants in the DWC might remove some, but the intention is really to provide nitrates for the grow bed. If I have too many nitrates then this might help. If I don't have enough I can cover the waterfall with an opaque sheet to prevent light falling on the waterfall.
  10. The waterfall is for aeration of the water, and possibly nitrate removal using algae if I get too many nitrates. I need to channel the waterfall to the centre so I don't lose any water on the sides. I was thinking of using polycarbonate but polythene sheet around the waterfall to prevent loss from Wellington wind sounds good. I've got my polystyrene raft that I need to cut up to fit the top of the upper shub, and need to drill the 2" holes for the net pots if I can find anyone who sells them! My endeavour is strictly veggies, not growing any plants to make rope or clothing!
  11. Still trying to get this working first pass at the radial flow filter .. riser in the top shub courtesy of Carine and then riser now shrouded in a drain pipe so that I have a radial flow filter ( I think ). This also shows the bell siphon kicking off to drain the lower shub. currently the bath tub below the paved area is holding 6 goldfish, refugees from a Victoria Uni science experiment. But nitrate levels are 0 so I need to add more fish, or, remove the duck weed in that bath so I can start to feed the plants.
  12. You're a spermatazoon? How do you type with only a tail? :slfg:
  13. I think Stephen Hawking commented on this a while ago. If it hadn't happened we would not be here to wonder at the extra-ordinary series of events.
  14. If you can navigate across the pacific in a canoe, I'd imagine you'd have good maps even if they were passed down by oral legend.
  15. Do the natives here who believe in taniwhas still also believe that the islands here are the result of an censored ITM fishing show?
  16. So, if you're feeling like you're gonna die, head for the couch instead!
  17. I used 1.5 L too but my tank is at least 60 cm deep. You only want to fill 1/4 of the bottle with media. Too much at the beginning and it won't fluidize. In that video the guy says you can add more later on once it fluidizes properly but I never bothered .. didn't want to get my hands wet! I think I remember seeing one of his videos using a very small hair conditioner bottle. Might be for a fry grow out tank or something. BTW, you don't need to have the bottle submerged. In my gold fish tank the top inch or so is above the water line usually.
  18. Yeah .. took several months but then I was running a few other filters in the tank as well. People say it takes a few weeks. I did two designs. One all I did was put a few holes around the neck of the drink bottle, and the holes at the top to let the air escape. And that one then sits on top of the riser above the sponge filter. The other one I cut across completely where the neck becomes straight. I again made holes at the top ( base of the bottle ), and then around the neck up to where the media sat. I didn't use a drill but a hot nail. I made a hole in the bottle cap and threaded in air line hose and joined it to an air stone inside. I then put a magnetic cleaner inside so I could hold it against the side of the tank using the other half of the cleaner. Er .. sounds confusing!
  19. Duckweed won't last long in your goldfish tank .. the goldies will eat it.
  20. I just scrapped the inside of the tank with one of those tank cleaner things on a stick. Released lots of algae into the water though. Just had another look. Put some food in and it tried to swim up to get it but dropped back to the bottom so looks like its not out of the woods yet. At least its now upright and not on its side.
  21. Just got home from my secondary school nth decade reunion to find my blue gourami moribund lying on its side breathing rapidly in my 60L planted tank ( shared with 5 zebra danios). Noticed the filter was turned off ( wife does that all the time as she doesn't like the noise ) so I turned that back on again, and started a water change. Tested parameters and T 24C, NH4, NO2 0, and pH 7.6. Dropped an air stone in as well, and completed a 60% PWC. After that the gourami picked up and started to move around. If this were low DO, shouldn't the gourami just go to the surface and get air? The other thing I did was that I did clean two sides of the tank a couple of days ago, and scrapped off large amounts of green long algae, followed by a 25% PWC with aged water. Could that cleaning leave toxins in the water somehow??
  22. The next step in human evolution is bound to be integrated bionics. Goggle glasses are part of the first wave but are external. Next will be internalized wetware.
  23. You can buy directly from Antony ( zuoyongwei 1983 at hotmail ) instead of using TM. Prices are even cheaper that way. I've been to his garage in Botany and he has a lot of stuff in his garage!
