  1. Given the chance ... you! Otherwise infusoria, and algae
  2. Judaism did not arise from a void but borrowed from earlier faiths
  3. Quantum theory allows the possibility that one can walk through solid walls. However the probability that this will happen is vanishingly small, and similar to the probability that evolution as a theory is incorrect.
  4. Epicurus 341 BC – 270 BC so he was talking about the Greek gods .. Zeus etc.
  5. The appropriate response is that we being human are not equipped to understand an infinite mind. And I have trouble following the plots of TV programs!
  6. Sounds like you're a mainlander. Watch a lot of dairy adverts huh?
  7. Mine was very silent. Not being used at present because that particular tank has no fish.
  8. There's been a lot of research done in aquaponic systems and the only thing that builds up is sodium ( too high in the fish food ). Other things such as K, Ca and Fe need supplementing. Nitrates can get too high still if there too many fish but that shouldn't be the case here, right?
  9. With a recirculating system you'd use less water than you do now.
  10. I'm having second thoughts about the design I used which sits atop a sponge filter. This meant that I didn't have to find suckers to hold the bottle to the tank wall but also has the effect of removing solids from entering the system ( though I also have the holes drilled above the neck of the bottle). I read that fluidized plastic media is used to process fish solids so it might be better to get the solids amongst the media and let it be reduced to fines instead by colliding the solids with the media. Thoughts?
  11. In an aquaponics system they reckon on replacing 1% of the water daily lost to evaporation etc.
  12. I found this site yesterday selling small quantities http://www.earthangroup.com.au/k1-bio-f ... edia-sale/ but postage could be prohibitive
  13. Also removes water ! If you're talking about sodium build up then yes you still have to do some PwC to remove it but at a much lower frequency
  14. Lettuce roots also extract ammonia
  15. I never hid the fish I carried on those regional flights, just tucked them under the seat infront of me, and hoped the stewardesses didn't notice the water leaking from my containers
  16. How much heat would you lose if you hosted the NFT in a glass house against the side of the house? And if you have enough plants, you could stop doing water changes completely. You remove the nitrates by eating the lettuce :sml1:
  17. I think to prevent heat loss at night, they stop the circulation to the NFT channels.
  18. If your tank is against a north facing wall, you could pump the water through the wall into a NFT system, and plant lettuce to remove the nitrates for you.
  19. and I thought you just mispelled "whales" :sml1:

    Oxygen shells

Get an air pump and sponge filter. When they upgrade to a larger tank, they can continue to use it.
  21. Yep, they're not worried about foreign ownership of their farms.
  22. I see a number of LFS do sell NSW in the USA. I guess it's easier for their customers than having to wait for a nice day and an incoming tide with a bucket. No different I guess from the corner dairy etc selling bottled water.
  23. As mentioned above, they're only Auckland Wellington AFAIK. Apparently AirNZ has a spare airbus they're using, and they're going to run the service at a loss to try and encourage more people to fly. No Koru lounge access ... so really bare operation.
  24. Standby flights from AirNZ. Looks like they've increased to $69 http://grabaseat.co.nz/standby/terms
