  1. You can do but as mentined change it slowly as a sudden drastic ph change will freak out your fish. If your tank has been 7.4 for a while i would be inclined to leave it as it is, biggest thing with africans and ph is to keep the ph stable.
  2. Is the flourish a one off treatment or is it likely to require multiple treatments. also as there is heaps of little tufts squirting each one and being sure i have squirted each one(with a syringe) is gonna be impossible. I am guessing i'll have to individually dose as many as i can find and put the rest of the flourish into the tank. Am i on the right track? Also i do large regular wc's so if its from excess nutients, what kinda excess nutients are we talking?. I don't think it would be excess light as the lights are on 8 hrs a day and the tank is not in direct sunlight. Herse a pic of what i'm dealing with. Its not out of control but i don't want it to take over my tank
  3. I'm pretty sure tropheus had some kandeense
  4. Cool, when do the fish arrive?, whats the dimensions of the tank?
  5. paradise quarry out at portland is a limestone quarry. I have grabbed stuff from them before. Limestone will help to buffer your water to.

awesome setup zuri I'd kill for a tank like that
  7. do you need me to come round and do some water changes on your tanks smidey 8)
  8. I have african malawis and a gae but he's not interested in it. I do a 70% wc every 7 days and try and squeeze in a 20% mid week when i can. Its not to bad at the moment bbut i don't want it to get out of control lights are on for 8.5 hrs a day. Might look into the flourish excel, will it kill off the green algae? Tank is 340 0dd litres.
  9. I have a few tufts starting to appear in my non planted cichlid tank, not sure how it got in there? does anyone have any good ways of eradicating it? My rocks are just beginning to develop some green algae so if i can i'd rather not pull them all out and scrape the bba off, i have heard of dosing the tank with florish excel, any suggestions appreciated.
  10. never seen it here before

    Some of my Fish

nice peacocks mate, u got them all in the same tank?
  14. gregs details are in the commercial trade and exchange section
  15. we are pretty limited up here mate. There are a few of us keeping africans that i know of. As far as wholesalers go the for sale sectoin on here or the wanted to buy are your best bets. Trademe is good to you can find heaps on there for good prices. As far as tanks go there is a guy called greg (tanks2u), his details are in the for sale section i think. He is auckland and custom builds tanks. Drop him an email with your measurements and he will make you what ever you want. His prices are really really good A LOT less than what you pay for a tank up here even with petrol cost (you'll have to pick it up). My 1 piece of advice is go big. The bigger the better. I thought i would be fine with a 4fter. 5 mnths later i upgraded to a 5fter. In hindsight i should have gone straight to a 6fter. It depends on what you want to keep of course but the bigger the tank the more options you have for stocking, as far as african cichlids go. Let me know if there is anything you need i may be able to help you out
  16. unless you are using a preseeded filter the tank will still be cycling keep up with water changes and light vaccination, do you have fish in the tank?
  17. i look forward to seeing some photos of that! when do you think you'll have it up and running?

    Red empress

i think they will be ok, empress can look after themselves
  20. cool i think i will treat food and tank at the same time, cheers
  21. yeah i saw that, i have a vet friend who has some droncit and i get a bit more for the same price, should i treat tthe food while medicating the tank to?
  22. also should i mix the prazi into the food for the 9 days as well or is this an overkill
  23. Has anyone got a good dosing regime for droncit. I will be treating a couple of africans and 1 treatment that has been suggested is 7.5 tab (50mg tabs) for 70L leave for 48hrs then do 50% w/c leave for 7 days then redose with 7.5tab and w/c after 48 hrs. So 2 treatments over 9 days. This seems like a lot of meds for a small tank, i think it works out to be around 5mg/liter?

    Red empress

hard to say until you try. If you put 1 empress in there on his own he will prob get a hard time. If you put the colony in there you will have better luck with the males retaining colour, but thats just a rule of thumb, it could go pear shaped or it could be fine. I had an empres in a all male tank with kadango and peacocks and he was fine. Is it an all male tank or are there other females? if you add females to an all male setup that usually results in carnage. My advice would be to give it a go but keep an eye on things, if they are not doing well you can take them out and put them back in the 180 until you find somewhere else for them.
  25. I did that when i treated with levamisole, is it the same with prazi then? Does that sound ok Dose the tank once every 24hrs with a vac and w/c before every re dose for 3 days?
