  1. hey chris, what is the stock list for this tank and what are the dimensions? can u post a pic of it? Mbuna need lotsa rock, haps like open water and peacocks a bit of both so will help if we know what you have
  2. the albino females look a lot nicer than the normal peacock females. Have you set up your all male display tank yet?
  3. sweet tank david lookin forward to checkin it out in the flesh, nice work
  4. Good a few starting to get their bands got about 4 males battling it out at the moment, that baenschi looks amazing are the females similar colour to the albino ruby red females?
  5. i agree, 15% a week is not enough especially with that amount of fish. I would be doing wc every 3 days or so to get the nitrates down, once you have them down start with 30% a week. Test your nitrates the day before a wc to see where your at and adjust the amount you change according to the nitrates, most people consider anything over 40ppm to be detrimental to fish. Even with 2 cf1000 thats not a lot of filtration africans love pristine water. i would be aimimng for around 50% a week with a good gravel siphon per wc. 1 big wc is more benefical than lots of small ones.
  6. nice frenchy, do you guys have a big selection of comps and calvus across the ditch?
  7. nice camtang how are the leleupi/calvus going in there, have you lost any?
  8. nice, are the moliro breeding yet?
  9. nice camtang, what sorta comps and altos do you have and what trophs are you keeping?
  10. bummer that sucks hopefully they have found some caves or cracks to wedge themselves in
  11. To hard to tell from vid, looks like some ice blues maybe, e yellows the auratus and a venustus or livingstoni can't really offer much help till we know def stock list
  12. have they been munched yet?
  13. video link doesn't wanna work for me
  14. Yeah i would move the auratus on unless you want to do a tank of them by themselves, you would need a few more though. Have you had any luck finding out what else you have in the tank?
  15. For that sorta money i would get a custom tank built and stand made. There are some good tank builders in the commercial section who are in auckland, might be worth looking at. If you want to go with these though i have had a couple of aqua one tanks and have found them really good, happy with their canister filters to. I agree with hovmoller the built in filters are pretty weak ditch them and get some canisters.
  16. from your description an vid it looks like you have some auratus in there, keep an eye on them they are super aggro and i would look at getting around 15 more dems as these guys need to be in big colonies to spread the aggression. They are super aggressive amongst them selves and your 2 will prob become 1. Maybe some red top ice blues, i think i can see 1 at the end of the vid. You should be fine with theses if they are still juvies but as they get bigger your probs will start. I would suggest going with a hap/peacock tank or getting rid of them and going all mbuna, all 3 together is generally considered carnage.
  17. tank looks sweet, what fish have you got so far?
  18. Its about keeping the tank clean of waste and food. If left in the tank they will cause your nitrates to rise. If removed from the tank by your filter and if your filter is big enough to cope with the bio load that will help to control nitrate. Thats a pretty basic breakdown. But, like i and others have said, nitrates won't be the problem as they are well within acceptable limits.
  19. Specs say 1000l but that is usually an empty filter with no media. Once you fill the canister up with media you can generally look at just over half that so you are probably looking at more like 6-700l an hr which would mean your tank turnover is more likely just over 2xp/hr. Which is pretty low, you want to double that at least. I would try running both filters as long as its not gonna cause to much flow. That should help to keep the nitrates down.
  20. If your nitrates are jumping so quickly could be that you are under filtered. If the filter is recommended for a 300l tank and yours is 350l that could be why your nitates are rising so fast. How many liters per hr is the filter rated for? I don't think this would be why your fish are dying as mentioned you are keeping the nitrates well under what is considered harmful to fish but it is requiring a lot of large frequent water changes which makes me think you need another filter. Sorry i know this prob doesn't help with your fish deaths, from what i have read you are definately doin all the right things, maybe worth lookin at dosing with prazi, not the best thing to do, treat your tank with meds when you don't really know what you are trying to treat but you are runnin outta options and prazi is fairly mild. Maybe worth a shot.
  21. I got 6 from ryan but lost 1 a couple of days after i introduced them, i am guessing that i have 3 males at least as they have been at it all night
  22. Its at 8 outta the tap, when I did my water change after a week it was at 7.8. in the tank. Some shots of my calvus they are starting to sort out the heirarchy in the tank. Not an alto but its about the only shot i have got of that not fuzzy. Dom juvie male.
