  1. Can anyone give me a good dosing regime for droncit. I am getting some 50mg tab, so 2x tablets for 40L, there seems to be a whole lot of different dosing regimes on the net so has anyone got 1 that works well for them. I was going for 3 doses over 3 days, should i be doing w/c before redosing? and can i feed during treatment, i dont want to be starving them unnecessarily as i need them to gain weight not lose weight. Cheers for your help
  2. More food no improvement, i have even removed the rusties so there is less competition. I think i will set up the other 2fter and take the taiwan and litho out and treat with prazi. If it is aggression then at least they will have a tank to themselves, i,m not sure it is as the taiwan is top dog and is showing good colour. Will suss the vet out and see if prazi is prescription or over the counter. Its droncit i'm after not drontal?. Hoping its over the counter as i got stung buying the metro. Hollwoods sell bottles of it so hopefully i can get some from a vet over the counter. Damn this is frustrating.
  3. I first noticed a couple of africans in my tank had sunken bellies at the beginning of april. I have since treated the tank with levamisole, metro in the water, metro in their food and epsom salts. I have been doing 70% w/c weekly with a 20% mid week w/c as well and I have upped the feeding. Everyone seems to be feeding well and showing good colour but the 2 males i was worried about just arent gaining weight. My taiwan reef is the worst. I didnt feed for 4 days while dosing with metro and fed lightly for 5 days after. He was looking pretty bad. He is looking a little better but still has a really sunken belly. I don't think i am under feeding as the other fish look good, if it was internal parasites i would have thought that the levamisole and metro combined with the epsom salts would have taken care of that. Aggression is mimimal, bit of chasing but know one is cowering in the corner. I am at a loss as to why they arent gaining weight. They have been on normal feeding for a week or so, whats my next move? I have a 2ft 70ish L growout with a few juvie yellows that i could put the taiwan in but he is feeding well so i dont know if moving him is gonna help.
  4. I got mine from ryan, he was a stunner the different blues in them are awesome, especially round the face.
  5. looks like a nyasse cobue. I had 1 0f these, awesome fish but pretty aggro. His colours were amazing, but that was when he was trying to beat the snot out of my other males.
  6. It seems obvious to me regardless of what is quicker easier etc.. hes ordered some pricey fish and why take the chance of introducing some nasties from an outdoor pond that could potentially wipe out his new stock, hey it might not happen, but it might. My humble opinion get the tank cycled, Fishless, with fish or a pre seeded filter, get a test kit and keep an eye on ya parameters till you find a w/c schedule that works. Save yourself potential headaches and get set up right first time.
  7. I'm assuming you know about cycling your tank?

    using metro

    cheers, will try and stick within 10hrs and do 7 doses. do you guys keep feeding through the dosages? and can i still add sea salt to the tank while i am treating with metro. The article linked says to dose with epsom so i assume salt will be fine?

    using metro

    Will be dosing my tank with metro this wkend. Am after some advice on how to do it, have been doin a bit of research and there seems to be a few ways of doin it. Tank is 340l will try and drop the water level to about 1/2. 1x400mg tab per 40l. Will crush up the correct dosage and chuck powder in the tank. Do i do a w/c after each dose?. Some sites say to redose every 8 hrs for a course of 6 doses, how strict do you have to be with the time between dosing, can I wait longer, I have 2 kids that i need to get ready for school and ready for bed so might have to redose when i can, is this still gonna work?

    sunken bellies

    Some pics of my haps with sunken bellies. 2 treatments of levamisole and know change, gonna try metro next. Also the tail fin on my peacock isnt lookin to good could it be finrot? After your opinions/suggestions. I have increased feeding to 3x a day. Soaking food in salt solution, and dosed tank with salt last w/c. All fish seem to be feeding well. 70% w/c weekly.

    feeding

    well, on my second round of levamisole, no real improvement will give it another week and if still no better will look at trying something different. Covered the tank again for the 2nd treatment and left it covered for the 24hrs between w/c. Sure enough fins on most lookin a bit worse for wear and few fish with dings and scrapes. I thought keepin the tank dark would chill them out but if anything they are in worse condition>. Either my fish dont navigate to well in the dark or there is some major aggression when its covered. To top things off my peacock has smacked his eye against something/someone and its not lookin to good, dosed the tank with salt and crossing fingers. Ever get the feeling your fighting a losing battle?
  13. yeah nice peacocks, whats ya ratios you have a lot of nicely coloured males?
  14. i get this to. I just give it the once over with a toothbrush, seems to do the job

    I have decided to treat with levamisole just in case. just wondering if i need to keep the tank covered for the first 24hrs. I have turned the lights off and covered the tank but i can see that my peacock is on the warpath and a few fish have shredded fins, so I'm pretty keen to take the cover off and just leave the lights off. My peacock seems to get bossy when its dark.

    cheers guys i know a vet so will see what i can get. Mbuna look fine its only a couple of haps and a peacock, they might be gettin outgunned at feeding time by the mbuna. Will try changin a few things at feeding time and see if things improve over easter and that will give me a chance to suss the levamisole just in case. The hap with the white poo has normal poo now so, but will keep an eye on them.

    feeding

    I feed my fish nls and i feed twice daily with the odd day of no food. I think i may not be feeding enough as the y look a little thin between the pelvic and anal thin if that makes sense. There is an inward arc between the pelvic and anal fins and i noticed one of my haps had some white poo today which i've never seen. I thought white poo was a sign of bloat and i don't think i am over feeding There are 23 fish in the tank 15 juvie mbuna and 3 5cm haps. The other haps/peacock are around 10cm and 3 of these i think are lookin a little thin. I feed approx 3/4 teaspoon per feed, which in hindsight is prob not enough. Can i up the amount straight away or should i adjust it slowly? how much should i be feeding per feed?
