  1. a sheet of ply screwed to the back (with holes for leads and pipes) would probably provide enough lateral bracing. alteratively could bracket it to the wall.
  2. i'd have thought your best bet would be a portable heat pump. otherwise a combination heater/dehumidifier
  3. went to great barrier island. live in torbay (north shore)
  4. Cost me 160 but I'm willing to negotiate a bit
  5. A mate has bailed on me leaving me with a spare ticket to black sabbath on Saturday night. Anyone keen?
  6. Welcome back mate. How tight is your budget?
  7. those pictures actually show a group of bloodthirsty ducklings chasing and overpowering a dog. luckily you didn't show the third, somewhat disturbing photo in the series

Maybe you could try hopping a quarter marathon, I'm no runner but I'm pretty sure that works out about the same
  10. He is right that under the CGA you have to give him the opportunity to correct the fault (both in terms of the size and the build quality). That would mean that you would have to give him the chance to build another tank of the size you ordered and up to a reasonable standard. The big issue there is defining the standard. I think you have probably made the right decision in cutting your losses and moving on.
  11. i got a couple of sunsun double t5 lighting units off trademe for about $110 a piece. I've had sunsun filters before and they seem fine (though not very efficient and ignore the advertised output as it drops off pretty quickly). that said, personally i would go for the aquaone filters. if you didn't want to sell the fish, best bet would be to set up the new tank for them and go with a community tank. clown loaches get pretty big (or at least they should do if they're in the right conditions), as do angels, and need much more space than a 620t. that said i don't think you'd have too much trouble selling them (and they won't even be close to full grown fish). if you wanted to look at the possibilities for an african tank you're more than welcome to come check mine out, just pm me. my tank is about the size you're looking at and i reckon it's turned out pretty good.
  12. there's more to a filter than just a pump, and definitely a difference between the brands. that said for most purposes the cheapo sunsun canisters are fine. the stocking in your current tank isn't gonna be great for the fish (the angels and loaches need a much bigger tank even without tank mates). if you want to go african you should probably sell of some of your fish in your current tanks. as for your tank options, if buying new you will definitely get more bang for your back getting a tank made and sorting it yourself. If you can knock up a stand, buy a couple of cheap filters and a light (get a decent heater though or you may end up cooking your fish) you'll come in a fair bit cheaper than an all in one (and those built-in filters usually aren't up to much). I set up my african tank fairly cheaply by buying a 2nd hand tank and stand, then aquiring the other bits and pieces when i found good deals. the aquaone filters from hff are pretty good value (i've got 2 cf1200s on my tank) and are worth considering.
  13. how long before you will be setting it up. it's not exactly a bargain and if it's going to be sitting around for a while there's always the chance of it getting damaged, silicone degrading etc. if i was you i'd wait till you're ready to set it up and start looking then. also if it is your 'dream tank' i'd seriously consider buying new as it's pretty hard to tell how scratched up the glass is from a photo like that.
  14. well looks like someone still loves them http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/ar ... d=10863897
  15. for the most part it is just friendly banter. they are our closest neighbours so it's a bit like sibling rivalry. there is also the fact that they are traditionaly very good at the sports that we compete at most fiercly (rugby, cricket, league etc.). while i must admit that it certainly "spins my wheels" to see the aussies get beaten on the sports field, it was also apparant to me when I was travelling round the world that aussies and kiwis tended to gravitate together (especialy when there was beer drinking envolved). it's similar to the north island south island rivalry. there's a lot of talk about disliking each other, but when the quakes hit in chch there were a heck of a lot of people in the north island rallying together to get money and supplies sent down to help out
  16. You can rightfully ask for a refund, but you need the reciept. if the job is substandard you have to give him the opportunity to fix it. The issue is at the moment it's your word against his on the measurements. Should always keep receipts for this reason

    The What's Up? thread.

that's a pretty cold way of looking at things. everyones lives are different and everyone faces different obstacles. in my late teens i lost my older brother. it damn near destroyed me. my parents were grieving pretty bad and i felt i couldn't unload on them. not being good at expressing emotion i turned to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain. and i grew up in a supportive and fairly well off family. i can't even imagine how some kids these days feel about life when they grow up in impoverished and abusive households. the reality is that for some people life is harsh and the desire to escape it for a while can sometimes mean losing it altogether.

You say that, but a girl at my high school died from huffing. It had a huge affect on many people at the school (and obviously her family and friends). The reality is that with all the pressures teenagers face (and massive hormone changes affecting decision making) you can't just say it's their choice
  19. well technically humans are animals. i'm assuming you weren't on a leash
  20. probably not so important for pieces at the ends of the tank. braces mid tank would need to overlap the strips running lengthwise though.
  21. Are the pieces that butt into the 80mm strips at each end of the tank?
  22. here you go cat lovers, it can be done. start training http://www.wimp.com/catowl/

The microwaves are all contained within the microwave oven, shouldn't have any issues.
