Man im angry!!! I bought a light of trademe and the seller sends me a heater??? What is this?!?!? I will be contacting trademe now as I'm freaking angry! :an!gry
  2. Ok, you should look at buying a tub of some sort, to treat the fish in depending on the number of fish and how big they are.
  3. I'd be looking at treating all the fish. Most fungal infections are highly contagious. Maybe you could get some pics of the fish with the fungal disease so someone can ID it?
  4. Theyre the same thing. You can get kits from the warehouse, toy world ect but my question is why? It costs just as much but you get 1/10 of what you'd get from brine shrimp eggs.
  5. Even the filter? Are you not looking at upgrading it? If so, you will need to cycle the new filter
  6. Yeah, I'll mix some NPK in with it? Or what should I mix to make it more nutrient rich? And too much substrate fertilizer + only hairgrass and riccia=algae problems?

Cheers, I can order 25kg for $25. Anybody else want some? :slfg:
  9. I'm thinking about it, to put things in perspective I have a 30L tank and 25kg of sand would fill it, in reality I only need like 5kg. I'll see how much pool filter sand is tomorrow.
  10. Yeah, I've seen theirs but shipping doubles the price  sigh I'm going out to a pool place tomorrow to get some pool sand which is silica I'm told.
  11. I found a somewhat of a substitute today, Im going back out tomorrow and I'll find some silica sand and because this substitute is low nutrients I'll have to find some nutrients that slow releasing....
  12. Whoa whoa whoa. Before you go cutting off its eye, how are you going to keep it from bacteria and fungal infections, how are you going to stop the bleeding?, how will it do with one eye?, how do you plan on cutting off the eye? What if the infection is deeper than what you think? A few things to ponder before you go hacking at it. I've never cut open a fish and don't ever plan too. D you think it will survive the night so you can take it to a qualified person to get it removed?

Water change, some fish shopping and last exam :happy1: :happy2: , on a side note can you use pool filter sand in an aquarium? I find it's better to buy just the amount of sand I need rather than having 20kg to spare...
  14. Hi I'm wondering if Jennifer of anyone else can help me out Dimensions & volume of tank:40(L)cm x 25(H)cm x 30(W)cm ie 30L Lighting: Aqua One AL15D and ill try to find some powerglos for it Substrate: Aquatic Soil (not sure of brand) and silica sand on top. Plants: Riccia fluitans and Elocharis acicularis(dwarf hair grass) CO2: DIY with ladder diffuser Fish stocking: unsure yet but probably a school of Dwarf rasboras (6?) Goals - What you want from the tank, a nice looking iwagumi tank with no algae amount of time you have to maintain it: half an hour a day approximate budget you want to spend on it: Unsure $50 max from now (I have substrate fertilizer, DIY CO2, diffuser, heater, lighting, filter, riccia, tank, schist, rocks for attaching riccia) This is really my summer project. I'm not sure how to go about dosing fertilizers though (without spending heaps on it). I might order some from the site you listed earlier (hydroponics.co.nz?) I'm also concerned about algae. Since the only root plant is the hairgrass will I experience algae problems? I don't have any test kits or anything yet as I'm still in the progress of getting the tank set up, see progress here http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=55721
  15. Sorry still no pics of the filter as its not done yet! Total cost of filter so far Tupperware container - $5 Hailea pump - $15 Clear Vinyl piping - $2.40 Black irrigation elbow - $0.70 Plus silicone. So a total cost of $23.10, not bad. I plan to use some seeded material from my turtle tank. When out guy shopping today with my list and storming from place to place like a mission I got Aquatic mix - $10 Some big pieces of schist some green some black - $0.60! LCD thermometer - $4.50 Check valve - $3.50 All within half an hour, would've been quicker but there was traffic  Still no silica sand yet, maybe I'll have to try up north when we go where ever for Christmas!
  16. My vote is dwarf rasbora. Depends on how big your tank is, you could have 100 small tetras or 50 big tetras
  17. Yeah, you could stick a heater in one, youd just have to find a big enough container. My canisters no where near finished tonight but all tomorrow afternoon is free so.... Good luck

  19. That's pretty cool, I think I like the giant snails better though
  20. Is it like an Auckland thing? On their site most of the places are in Auckland.
  21. It's not as good, all most like having a full sized book in your hand.
  22. :slfg: I'd like to know too. And where do you find it? Sorry for hijacking your thread. :roey:
  23. My Hagen Nutrafin CO2 Natural Plant System arrived today. It's so cool! I could watch the bubbles go up that all day. Riccia was pearling again today, the DIY CO2 Ive got in there is bubbling away nicely. I started making my DIY canister filter today at a total cost of $20 so far. It won't be complete until tomorrow because I forgot to get some more tubing  update to come.
