  1. The bright yellow highlights on the plants gives it away among a few others. I guess as a comparison you could say to the untrained eye a sick fish can look healthy. It is not till after years of experience you can see things like that instantly. However based on what I have seen of Joe's photography I am surprised he didn't pick it up. Anyway back to the tanks... Really like the choice of plants in this tank..
  2. You seem to be offended by my post which I apologize for, it wasn't my intention to doubt your taste hence my "each to their own". Meaning, I feel I have a valid opinion but rather than argue I will let you also have yours. I was only sharing my opinion nothing more. Not sure why you laugh it is actually really quite obvious, a quick look at the tonal graph would suggest the photographer used the wrong settings for that tank shot. Regardless of camera quality. I also query how you know they used a top quality camera as the image has no metadata. The second shot I used as a comparison shows a pretty good balanced graph considering the halides are shining right into the camera. ( also from the ada site ). This is very hard to achieve, by no means perfect but I am sure you get the idea.
  3. I would say poor photography and very bright Halides. Nice tank but not sure about best on the web, each to their own though :cofn:
  4. Tis' an algae bloom. Cover your tank for three days to keep it in complete darkness. Best non additive/chemical fix. Run an air stone if you have one or make sure you have surface agitation. During that 3 days you will need to find out why it happened to prevent it from reoccurring.
  5. Looking good. Try bending the glosso over and planting both ends, you can see the roots shooting out at the nodes. even if it was another species, it should still grow fine all needs are meet.
  6. Malamute :sage: haha I get that all the time.
  7. Kaos, became big very fast.
  8. Although I understand where you are coming from I disagree. I think the pros would out weigh the cons here. Although argument fails because I don't know the NZ high school pass rate statistics ect, I still think that even a basic understanding of such an important part of our history would be invaluable when those students get to voting age. I also think that if text books on the issue were made and it was part of our curriculum we would have less people blurting racism out from their own misunderstanding of the subject and in turn a greater understanding as a community.
  9. :iag: So basically, it is probably best to do some research on something so major before you vote next. As an adult I am actually gutted this isn't?/wasn't taught to me at school. This is my countries history it should be taught in full.
  10. I just want you to read that post back to yourself, take a minute to let it all in and ask yourself if it's a bit much? This type of extreme speech can spread quite easily and have some serious consequences. I think freedom of speech is great and all but calling an entire race pathetic and embarrassing is pretty much hate speech. You are allowed to be racist just probably not a good idea to express it so keenly. Quite surprised this thread hasn't been shut down. Disgusted actually considering I have been told off for less.

    Who am I?

    The white mouse.
  12. Too lazy to reply fully, but this is pretty much on point , well said. It does raise a question of morality and division but that's one for another day I think. At the end of the day if they are charging $4 extra for each competitor then the price of admission goes up $4. Small price to pay really.
  13. Do people still use waterbeds? :dunno:
  14. Wonder if the council would help in some way. They may have information of the building or there maybe something in the building code. Just a thought.
  15. well the ratio for 1liter water cubed to kgs is almost exactly 1:1 so you are looking at 600kgs of water weight for a 600 liter tank. I can see that getting up to a tonne with sump plus glass weight ect. Yeah I would say that is way to heavy for a second story sorry. I would be angry to live under you and find out there was one tonne sitting above my head.
  16. Because you are dealing with basic shapes ( rocks ), you could try and draw some thumbnail ( 10 cm wide ) sketches and try different things with the layout. They only need to be basic. takes seconds to draw out an idea but takes ages to arrange the rocks to test an idea only to find out you don't like it. Just a thought.
  17. What ever you choose most of the lenses are interchangeable within the brand, so most cannon lenses fit most cannons, so if you buy a cannon and get two lenses you can upgrade the camera and keep your lenses. If you upgrade to a Nikkon you will need new lenses ect.
  18. The wife has started to show some interest in my plants ect and hinted that she wanted my 400L set up as a Paludrium. Since That takes forever and I would most likely end up looking after it, not to mention it would be near impossible to hide before xmas. I decided to make her a little terrarium... I realize it is not wise to put succulents with other water needing plants so I used little toilet paper rolls and made a division for the succulents and used pumice as a base. Lets hope it survives at least till xmas day. :smln:
  19. Good to hear I grabbed me some, forgot to ask if you had any left. New tank is in water testing stage.
  20. is that the same substrate we got? looks a lot bigger grain size than I remember.
  21. Is the male fertilizing them? In my limited experience cichlids can go through the act but can take some time to get it right.
  22. Looking good mate, still can't believe the size of those needle leaf ferns.
  23. Made a good team mate was quite a fun day. Pity we don't have limitless tanks so we can do it more often. Mite have to make a few more. I am waiting for that 1 piece of wood to make it's way back into the tank. Hopefully it settles down a bit soon or I will have to get in there with my handy drill :cofn:
  24. Have you tried using turpentine on the cutter? Since I learned that I have been cutting up to 12 mm glass no problems ( yet ), and I have no idea what I am doing. Hope that helps.
