  1. [21] <-- supasi ([email protected]) has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client) Didn't stay long?
  2. I was told this after a tree fell of a cliff face into the drink/mudflats. The timber was to be used for wood turning. This was in the BoP ~15 or more years ago.
  3. I'll agree about the fish, but the video (camera) need some work I got the torrent fish on my first trip to the stream near my old's place, middle of the day getting some live food for the two bullies I then. Just turning over rocks in a fast-ish bit of the stream with the net down stream - easy really
  4. one of my koura deciding to rearrange the small rocks more to it's liking
  5. Couldn't get him to change with a mirror just then but these were taken over about 90 seconds when the light was turned on:
  6. I believe it is illegal to harvest pohutukawa, but otherwise it is a very nice setup
  7. He is eating fine, when food gets to him... They are all getting chicken heart atm (stolen from the cat). The smelt and inanga wouldn't come close to the spray bar for a few days, but they learned too quickly. I feel I might be over feeding the tank in general as I'm havng trouble keeping the water from clouding up. But on the up side the smelt and inanga are growing fast. If they keep it up I might end up over stocked :-? Have put some java moss in there to try to keep some nutrients down, and everyone keeps commenting on the lack of green stuff. I do have some native stuff to go in the tank but I'm waiting for another week or two until the salt is taken out a bit after the ich I've had. The torrie turned real dark.
  8. That would still be considered culling in a breeding sense ie you are taking them out of the gene-pool
  9. now that I have changed the tank around I see him (?) out a lot more, seems to do a stint most mornings till about 10am then comes back out from maybe 7pm. He spend most of the rest of the time in the rock you can see on the left on the video, has 4 tunnels in it that all join. Will see him out at other times during the day. I worry that he doesn't get enough food as the inanga and smelt are so fast, and little pigs. Was dropping food down the spare spray bar to the bottom but the other fish have learned to wait at the bottom of the pipe and push him out of they way  I'll have to go and get some live food once the rivers have dropped back down after all the rain we've had. Would love another one, are they very territorial? Was teasing one of the bullies this morning with a mirror (as you do...) and the torrie was out - went almost black and come right over to the mirror.
  10. Nice, I think I would have gone for a look-see if I had of had the money
  11. A new vid of the torrent fish finding scraps in the sand/under stones
  12. Nice one, I love the red fins, I have two females, no males must go closer to the coast on my next fish hunt. The second one does look like a large common bully, the first could well be a Crain's?
