Well it's been 2 weeks now and aside from the initial saga of the dodgy wood everyone seems happy apart from one glowlight which is in quarantine, I think he suffered a bit from the dodgy wood and seems to be having a bit of trouble coming right..... I've got some Sera daily fert for the plants, but just wondering if I should be using this yet, I don't want anything to interfere with the cycle of the tank...... how can I tell when it has started cycling?
  2. I've founf the internet to be a great source of help, also deciding to go with a "biotope" style has helped a lot as well, by limiting my fish choices to the Asian theme it has meant I have less to choose from lol
  3. I wonder how old they are, they are a little less than a cm long and their dorsal fin is quite far down their back, towards their tails..... so cute and tiny.....
  4. I think the wee pandas are too young to have spawned yet though, the plants were all either ones I have got off people here or ones I bought on trade me....... guess we play the waiting game hehe
  5. Hmmm, don't think it was the glowlights, they haven't been in that tank.... all thats been in there is the baby pandas and the various plants that I've been accumulating...... darn, patience never was one of my strong points...... I hope they grow fast lol
  6. Make that 2 mystery fry hehe, jsut spotted another one...... now the question is who's plants did the migrate on??
  7. So I decided I might as well put all the plants I have in the new set up tank instead of making them suffer in the holding tank with the baby pandas, so I took the pandas out and put them in a plastic container while I was clearing out the plants. Then when I went to put the pandas back I saw a wee fry swimming around with them....... unfortunately I put it back in the holding tank before I thought to get a pic....... I wonder what it's gonna grow into...... how exciting lol :bounce:

Okay, so I've moved the albino gba into the tank with his piece of driftwood (which he appears to have abondoned for a more desirable stone cave) and I'm sitting here on the laptop when I glance up at the tank and who do I happen to see but a sneaky little Clown Loach that apparently caught a lift over in the driftwood!!! Cheeky little burger..... I checked the wood too because last time I moved tanks with it there was one or two tucked up in there!!!! Luckily it was obviously one of the more braver ones that didn't take off when it saw me so I managed to herd it into a net and put it back into the old tank........ Man I love my loaches hehe

I've only been giving them a tiny bit each day or so, I don't really see them eating it though.... not like they used to in the other tank..... do you think maybe I should try not feeding for a few days?

I might just put one of the boys in, I've noticed that a lot of the food isn't getting eaten in the new tank so it's going "mouldy". I thought maybe if I put the BNs in they might help stop this happening. The tank has only been running since last Sunday though. Since taking that piece of wood out all the tetras seem to be back to normal which is really good.

Can anyone tell me if they would recommend putting the BN's in before the tank has cycled?

Thanks Sophia..... to be honest.... I'm pretty sure everyone is looking a lot better today, so it seems it was that piece of wood, theres two mighty fat looking glowlights though.... I'm just wondering if they get fat if they are carrying eggs? Hopefully now I will just have to worry about getting them through the cycle process without losing anyone else.....

Okay, the offending (possibly) piece of wood is out.... I've rearranged everything and the micro sag is in. I haven't put any of the corys in yet as I want to wait until it's cycled. The wood was a piece that I picked up at the beach in Kaiaua, I have a couple of other pieces in there from there also.... all of it has been boiled twice and soaked etc, but we will see if theres any improvement now..... fingers crossed :-) Thanks Sophia. Oh and the riccia seems to be okay, I haven't put it in this tank yet, its still in the wee tank with the baby pandas at the moment.

I've noticed one piece of wood in particular that has some clear kinda looking "growth" on it. It's not on any of the other pieces so I am thinking I should take it out?? Everyone is still alive, other than the one glowlight that I lost yesterday.... though one of the bigger glowlights is so fat it looks like it's about to burst, but other than that it's fine and not one of the ones that seems to be affected like the others..... now I also need to decide where to put the micro sag!!!! And will have to move the christmas moss also as that is wrapped on the piece of wood thats growing stuff.... bummer, there goes my carefully planned moss arch.......

Thanks Sophia, they have now had about a 50% water change, I haven't added salt at the moment.... I think its too late for a couple of the glowlights though

Yeah, I thought I would try that first.... I'll probably suck up hald the sand, but I guess thats a good way of having less sand in there as Pheonix44 suggested lol...... I'm wondering if I should add a little bit of salt in there too........

Okay, i can't get a decent photo of it, but looking more closely at it now, it actually looks like its just food thats gone mouldy..... I've lost a glowlight already and some of the other smaller ones aren't doing too well..... the x-ray that was the first one I noticed sick is still going but not swimming well...... should I just get the tetra's out of there?

No, I noticed theres some on the sand, kinda white definitely fungus looking and theres some clear kinda stuff on some of the wood.... but I've noticed a couple of the fish "shimmying" and having probs swimming.... the first one I noticed I thought it was just stressed because it was the last one I had to try and catch to transfer in there but I have now noticed a couple of the others going the same way. I'll try and get some photos tonight when I get home. I tested the water last night and everything seem normal there so I have put it down to something else in the water.....

Disaster, well not exactly disaster, but sucks all the same, a couple of the fish are looking pretty bad..... having a close look this morning at the tank it looks like there is some kinda fungal growth or something in there, I am assuming this may be from one of the bits of wood, so it looks like I am going to have to strip them out and take the fish out too for now.... sucky, I was really happy with the peices in there and had boiled scrubbed and cleaned everything really well..... sigh

Thanks guys..... quite pleased with it for a first attempt, though I'm sure I've probably messed up somewhere along the line with the planting lol..... can't wait to see some fishies swimming around in it now haha
