has anyone breed yellow black eyed bristle-noses ?
You must have something good in the water up there Kim!

bristle noses, how can i breed them ?
What else is in the tank? Perhaps other fish are eating the eggs.

Platy breeding Question
It might but if the females are close to birth shifting them will cause them to abort. Better to leave this lot and make sure conditions in the 2nd tank are ready next time the females are ready to drop. Make sure you have plenty of fine leaved plants in the tank and quite a few may survive. java moss is excellent for this. Test the water in the other tank and if it is similar, move the males and leave the females where they are - easier.

Sword+white poop
If they are pooping then I would say they can't be constipated. Has their diet changed recently? Try feeding a few cooked peas with the shells removed as I am told this is a good way to clean out a fish's system.

waterbed heat pad
Remind me about it when we get back from Fiji

Lady with attitude.
Because of the affect they would have on our native fish and plants. Koi are banned here for the same reason.

Lady with attitude.
Oh I didn't realise it was a Tilapia. Definitely banned in NZ then

Lady with attitude.
Don't think I have seen one of those before. I had a Jaguar cichlid once who had a tank to herself for the same reason.

waterbed heat pad
Quite possibly Ira but time is the problem. Grant is so busy it might take a while to get it done! I know someone who used to make them too but not sure if he still does. He lives in Levin.

Is this Neon Tetra Disease ?
I am sorry to see such a reaction to a reply. Our concern is for the inhabitants. Just because it is a fish does not mean it doesn't deserve the best conditions you can give. If the other fish die that's too bad?? What sort of attitude is that towards a living creature dependent on you for its quality of life? Although Alan was a bit harsh he made good points. If the infection now spreads to the other fish - and you - and you get sick and die I guess that's too bad too.

waterbed heat pad
I doubt it NPnewbie as it is specialised cable. We got ours from Argus Heating in Christchurch. The only one I can find now is a different address and phone number but I assume it is the same company but they have moved in the intervening years. 455 St Asaph St. Christchurch. 03 379 5100. They will need to know what you want the cable for, how many watts you need and the cable resistance to achieve this.

Is this Neon Tetra Disease ?
Yes but apparently rare.

My one year old red oscars.
I hope you have a bigger tank ready for them.

Is this Neon Tetra Disease ?
If you turned the tank upsidedown I suggest you look under the furniture  It probably died and was eaten.

testing 1.2.3
My Yahoo album won't let me do it either so I signed up with photobucket with great success.

waterbed heat pad
Yes, we made our own but not using a waterbed heater as we had heard of people having problems with them not regulating the heat properly. Making your own is not something I recommend you do unless you have electrical knowledge and qualifications (which Grant has) as it can have disatrous effects if you get the calculations wrong. We used pinex and silicone cable and our pads cover the whole base of our 4ft tanks. The lounge one has been running many years now with no problems whatsoever. The mains flex was attached by the cable supplier as it needed to be crimped and sealed using heat shrink and glued sleeves for safety. You need to work out the power required to heat the tank then calculate the correct length of cable. You must also use cable which has the correct resistance.

Moved house, moved tank
Good to hear you got it moved pies. Hope the rest of the inhabitants make it. Fins crossed here.

Big Catfish?
David I believe they used to have one in the now defunct Fins n Fangs in Wgtn.

My one year old red oscars.
Are they extremely large already or is it a small tank?

Food grade barrels for holding water
What dimensions are the tanks? Would they be suitable for use as a sump? I am looking for something that will fit under a tank and rather than glass, am thinking along the lines of stock troughs.
