  1. You know what they say about talking to yourself Frenchy  Gorgeous fish though
  2. Ask Peter Cottle. If he doesn't know, he will know someone who does
  3. Our axies lived with gravel and never, to my knowledge, ate it. This is a new idea to me and I wasn't aware they did this (we had them when the kids, now adults, were small). If you use sand you can't use an undergravel filter (ugf). A small internal canister would work but take up room in the tank. Check Trademe for a small external canister with a spray bar return so the current is spread out a bit or, like Sharn suggested, don't have a filter at all. I assume she does very regular water changes too if there is not filter.
  4. Multiply the internal length, height and breadth in cm and divide the answer by 1,000. This will give you capacity in litres. 70 x 30 x 30 = 63L. Make allowances for water displacement due to rocks, gravel, driftwood and other decorations. When I had axolotls I just used a box filter plus an ugf.
  5. I PMd him offering it free

    guppy problem

You will find a number of posts in the past with people losing guppies for no apparent reason. Mainly females I think. But your ammonia should be 0 and the nitrates less than 25. The pH is a little acidic for guppies too. What was a ammonia and nitrate after the water change?
  7. They are available here Brad but you must research first to check you recognise it from the other 2 fish commonly sold as a Siamese flying fox but that do not eat the dreaded algae.
  8. JDM I suspect all those sparks would shield you from the speed cameras too
  9. Tammy you should never have had angels and electric yellows in the same tank! Angels like slightly acidic to neutral water pH 6 - 7 whereas electric yellows are African Malawi cichlids which require very alkaline conditions pH 8.
  10. and 14 hours is a bit long for light. 10 - 12 is better. Every bit helps.
  11. Hey if it works, go for it! 8)

    Coral Feeding

Puttputt a well functioning marine club would be good   They seem to meet occasionally but are not affilliated to the FNZAS sorry
  13. Carpet rots when tank water gets spilt on it so spend the money on fish and have uncarpeted floors
  14. Is it actually sap or tannins discolouring the water? Some saps can be toxic to fish but the tannins are harmless.
  15. I suspect the fluffy one is actually sphagnum moss. Peat looks like dirt with small bits of bark in it and is sold at garden centres. You need to make sure it is just peat with nothing harmful added. Some have fungicides etc added. As far as I know it is the same peat they breed killies in. I am sure Alan will correct me if I am wrong though If you are wanting peat to lower the pH, you don't need a great amount so the smallest bag you can find will do - in fact will be way to much so you will have plenty left over in which to spawn your killies .
  16. It is entirely possible a future conference could be held on the Gold Coast. It almost was in 2004 but we decided Fiji was better Next overseas conference will probably be Rarotonga then perhaps we can look at Aus.

    Mould

"Mould" is probably the wrong word but you know what we mean
  18. It is certainly rare and unusual. Did you breed it yourself?

    Mould

If you are overfeeding it will sink to the bottom and the uneaten food will go mouldy. Siphon it all out immediately, do a partial water change and stop feeding so much!
  20. That was my thought too mystic  Nice fish pawz

    Mould

If you have put either of them in the tank they will (IME) form a mould-like fluff on the substrate.

    Mould

Do you use the product pH Up, or Down, by any chance?
  23. Our aim was to make this a family friendly forum suitable for all Brad and we try (despite a lot of flak from some quarters) to keep it that way. Thanks for the kind words and we hope to visit you one day too (sorry)
  24. That's because they re Bolivian Butterfly rams - Microgeophagus altispinosa

    greetings

Hello Krissie. A leak in a tank that size can form a mighty big puddle! Welcome to The Fishroom 8)
