    Lime rock

I used limestone in my African tank too to raise the pH.

Try all sorts of fruits and veges to see what it likes.

    silver dollars

These fish can grow 15cm and need a tank at least 1.2m and at least 45cm high with lots of swimming space. They will demolish live plants with gusto. Any larger community fish would be suitable but 4 - 5 of them would be enough on their own. I have no experience with the other fish mentioned so can't say if they would be suitable.
  4. Thanks. If you PM me with your real name and address you will get a copy of the magazine in which it is published. Of course, if you are already an FNZAS member you will get it anyway.
  5. Hmmm I will be next door in Brunei in the New Year, perhaps I will hop over the border and go fishing
  6. Are you implying fishing people are usually 'abnormal'?
  7. May I publish all that in the Aquarium World magazine?

    heater woes!

Depends on the fish but most say 25 - 27C but my tanks are set to about 22C - except in summer they overheat all the time here  Ordinary incandescent bulbs give off a lot of heat particularly in enclosed plastic lid systems (and black ones at that).

    heater woes!

If it has an ordinary lightbulb in it, swap for one of the short fluoros as they are cheaper to run and give off less heat.

    heater woes!

What size heater and what sort of light is it?
  11. A tank is too big if you can't fit it in your house.
  12. Or cut the driftwood then silicone it together

    glosso.

what it actually means is the writer has a poor grasp of English.
  14. Certainly good for fry tanks but, as Ira said, they clog up quickly in other tanks.
  15. Welcome back. I assume by the temp in the 50's you mean F. We had 32C the other day here which is 89.6F so I guess we are experiencing a bit different weather to you  Just came home from a lovely BBQ at a local reserve.
  16. We put in an outside electrical outlet and the wires run under ground.
  17. A peace lily is Spatiphyllum wallisii or Borneo Sword. It may be Anubias barteri? I have a peace lily in my bathroom and its leaves seem longer and thinner than that pictured here.
  18. A lot of plants are sold as 'aquatic' when in fact they are not.
  19. Ya gotta know the right people eh?
  20. Not necessarily. I only do water changes on my tank about once every 3 months (if that) but it looks better than the one pictured I must say Check it out in the freshwater tank section
  21. I hope you take the time to write a letter to the company saying how impressed you were. Most people only write to complain and I am sure they appreciate letters of support even more.
  22. Most shops will freight for a small cost ($15 - $20 depending on distance) I got my Jebos from Napier Deco City Pets and the other from Hutt Pet Centre. They were on special at the Hutt for $150
  23. Looking good. Did it flower underwater?
