  1. Great slide show. Congratulations to you both :bounce:
  2. The spots might relate to their mood which would explain why they come and go. Other fish have stripes fade in and out according to mood.
  3. Well, now that you mention it...

    Hello

You didn't offend anyone Caper, they are just trying to explain how we differ. You know people who come from the far south of NZ as they sound different (huge Scottish influence in the ancestry) but most kiwis sound similar. Unlike America and Canada where, as you said, accents differ widely across country.

If he is going grey it could be he is producing extra slime in response to the stress of the nitrates
  6. The other dimensions theory has been put forward in other posts (quite some time ago if I remember correctly) and I think it is the most likely.
  7. The neighbour's cat going through it makes a nice sized hole too (No I didn't shove it in)
  8. You shouldn't break the ice as the noise isn't good for the fish. They will survive happily under ice. If you are worried about oxygen (and they don't need much as they are hibernating at that point) then float a ball or something you can remove each day - leaving an air hole, or pour a little hot water to melt a patch. I have a deck overhanging each end so although the main pond area remained covered, it was not frozen at each end under the decks.

  13. I just photograph at night. Shut all curtains, turn off house lights. Have as much actual tank lighting as possible and use the flash on an angle. If you can use a tripod or something to keep the camera still it helps too.
  14. Nice to know she's happy having gone UP a size
  15. Welcome back oscarboy. I use spiralina a lot and never had problems with it.
  16. I was the first member so have had more time to post than the rest of you. When Cees first set up the site I was the only one who had access to it for a while as he used me as the guinea pig to see if I could use it, find bugs etc. So I had a head start At the time I had never heard, or seen, of forums so he figured if I could follow his instructions, anyone could.

It will house the oscars alone. Is the tank higher than it is wide? Surface area is important and oscars need room to swim widthwise.
  21. The stars are pretty meaningless in the overall scheme of things.
