  1. I am just starting the muffins. Not as fancy as wok's chocolate cake but easier to carry in a backpack
  2. Heir, do you mind others adding their good stories or would you rather it be on a separate thread?
  3. Very nice (both the curtains and the tanks) Those blinds are expensive too. My one small one in the kitchen cost more than the rest of the ordinary curtains in the whole dining room (inc those on the ranchslider)
  4. If you have small fry in a tank then a sponge filter is the way to go. You could also run a simple box filter with the lid removed so they don't get stuck in it My Shark internal filter has 2 centre inserts over which fits 2 sponges. I am sure I could remove one insert and sponge and use noodles in that half of it couldn't I?
  5. I don't know. I can't eat sausages these days but others will be able to.
  6. a pointy stick  I have decided to bake some of my popular bran muffins (aka fluffin muffins or poo pellets by my kids) as they are easiest to travel with on the ferry.
  7. You having bad weather up there or someone hit a power pole? :-?
  8. I have not used too many internals so someone else may have some suggestions as which they found best.
  9. Just less surface area on the media. Add noodles if they fit. I do this to my HOB AquaClears and Shark internals. One would assume a UV light would be beneficial but I believe you have to change the bulbs regularly for them to work properly, and the bulbs are expensive.
  10. Hey if there's drugs or dead bodies in that truck you can't blame the dodgy dude! Can you move those other items aside and make room for some blue rams? I have emailed you about it
  11. That's what friends are for!!! (very clean and tidy it was too )
  12. I think you could cut away bits of fin as long as you did not get too close to the actual body.
  13. Perhaps Stella would show you her native fish tanks
  14. I think he sucked on then it dried out too fast for him to unattach himself and slide off again
  15. I had a Chinese algae eater jump up on top of the lid of one of those small plastic breeding traps. Unfortunately by the time I found it I thought "Where did that twig come from and how did it get there?" Took a minute to register it was a very dessicated fish, having been directly under the lights for some time :-?
  16. I would like to point out that the Simtronics Cup for best junior article is only for juniors who belong to an affiliated FNZAS club! Being a junior in the forum is not enough. You may certainly still write and submit an article :bounce: but the cup is for actual FNZAS members only. It is hard to tell how many juniors we have exactly as some are signed up under a family membership. There are at least 18, possibly more, but I do not know their ages (some may be too young to write an article)
  17. Oooohhh that lighting!  * searches for glasses
  18. Like a green sheet? That is cyanobacter, not algae. Opinions vary as to the cause. What sort of lighting do you have on it?
  19. A lot of the newer ones are more efficient but some pumps will not run off a UPS unless the UPS has true sine wave output, which only the expensive ones have. We found our Fluvals would not run on a UPS but the Eheims did. Haven't tried any others. A generator would work however they are obviously more expensive and you have to be there to start them up in the case of a power failure. The advantage of a generator is that you could get one large enough to run the heaters as well but still be portable enough to be able to be moved by one person. Ones being imported from China are quite cheap and apparently work well.
  20. When we were in Brunei we watched Shark Tale (while waiting for the lightning storm and rain to pass). If I remember correctly, the sound was in original English but the written subtitles must have been translated from Malaysian (or something else) back into English. The results were hilarious. At one point, the fish cried "Look out! He's behind you!!" The words underneath said "Look out, he is in your behind!"
  21. Do you have a local Community Law Office? They offer free advice.
  22. Caryl

    Typical !

They have obviously been listening to the adverts that say dirt is good!
  23. It is good to know there are places that will recycle it. We get lots of it packed around computer parts and it is a pain to dispose of
