  1. Grant and I were known as the guppy killers in our early days of fish keeping. We now know what the problem was so probably would be able to keep them alive these days but, for some reason, I went off the idea of guppies  The ones John had in Organism almost made me change my mind though!
  2. Whenever I have flown with fish or axolotls as hand luggage I have not mentioned it to the airline and never had a problem.
  3. Try the extra water changes until the tank settles. What, and how many, fish are in it? As the plants grow they should out-compete the algae for food and the water will clear again. The green water looks bad but is harmless. Do you have lighting? If so, what sort and how long do you have the lights on for? Is there any direct sunlight on the tank?
  4. No, there are quite a few of us still here. You need a good mix of old and new so the new ones are not left floundering with no idea of what to do!
  5. When I complained to a chain store employee about the misleading pictures on the bowl containers she agreed with me but said they had told their head office when others had said the same thing and they weren't interested.
  6. Nothing wrong with indecent choccy cake either
  7. I guess you do not live in the middle of the city then?
  8. Probably. What colour is the water? It may have a whitish algae bloom going on and this too should clear.
  9. Well Petmart are in Richmond
  10. If this is a new tank, brown algae is common. As the tank matures and the cycle completes, the brown algae will disappear. In the meantime you can just keep wiping it off the front and surfaces where possible so it looks nicer. Live plants need to be buried quite well or the fish can pull them up (and will do so if given half a chance). Plants with bulbs should not have the top of the bulb buried.

    newbie

Hi and welcome aquaticmum. I would suggest you add your location to your profile as sometimes it helps to have help from someone in your area if it is required Click on the user control panel at the top right of the page.
  12. and here is the new executive (those present anyway) Left back is Paul (wok), Alan (alanmin), John Eastwood, Sue Fleet, me, Owen (simian). Most of the pics can be seen on http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v144/ ... ?start=all Photobucket loaded them in alphabetical order instead of the order I had them so mine are all first, then Grant's

    Rosy Barb

Hi TeamJ. I would have said the tiger barbs would be more aggressive but you often get one dominant fish that will bully the others  I would see if the shop will take the one stroppy rosy barb and then the rest should settle down. Try to provide plenty of hiding spaces and plants for the other fish to hide in. Barbs are shoaling fish and the more you have the better behaved they usually are. In smaller groups one can bully and dominate the rest :-? Golden barbs grow a lot bigger than rosy barbs and that is too many for a 20L tank. They need a lot of swimming room. They are probably all right for the moment, if small, but they will grow quite quickly. What size is your other tank and what fish are in it?
  17. I am so tempted to tell you to provide them with some bamboo thickets but I won't  A friend found the most successful way to breed corys was to put them in a small tank, let the water go very green, and then forget they are there. When she went back, 2 or 3 months later, to empty the tank there were a lot of fry all happily living in there. The fish had never been fed but obviously had enough algae to live on
  18. Joe I forgot to remind you that you do not have to fill the spare I just dropped off right to the top. Just enough to cover the filter (and make sure the heaterstat is underwater too) will be plenty for the number of fish you have. The less water you put in it (and measure it as you pour it in so you know how much is in there) the less meds you need per dose
  19. So why aren't you at school today??? We got you home early enough for a good night's sleep.
  20. A large one. It takes a lot of air to pump through those things.
  21. They look OK I suppose. Not as good as the choccy fish we had this weekend. Yummy!! Seriously, nice fish and pics tracytrout 8)
