  1. Gosh this went off and on topic quite a bit I just gave my opinion of Animates Botany and my experience with them. I did not give all Animates a bad name. I do also remember about a year back when I got neon tetras that one was flapping about on the floor and from there chucked back into the tank from where it just floated and I was told it was in shock it would come right just now
  2. Thanks so much both of you. I will go and see If I have any peas, in not I will get some first thing tomorrow.
  3. Like most of you know my male bristlenose is no longer with us Now I might have a problem. I have noticed about a week before his death that the female kept on coaching him under the bogwood, she did that since I did a very big water change after all the medicine treatments. Today I did a filter maintanance and water change and noted that she has a very rounded belly, and she was searching all the spots the male used to hang out. Is she holding eggs, what will happen now, there is no male in my tank anymore, just the two chocolate zebra's and that does not help much. Will the eggs just dissolve into her, or will she hold on to them and die? Gosh I don't want that to happen. Please advice me what I should do.
  4. I thought of them being responsible because it took three weeks before my mollies died and did the same by them. I went into their store the same day my Mollies died and then their tank was under quarantine and treatment from the day before. So they only started treating the tank the same time I lost my fish. If someone had bought fish from that tank after me until the day before my fish died, they would have had the same fate as well. Just my opinion though
  5. Thanks for the advice Scottie. I will do more research next time. Like I said, I am very new on this and relied on their knowledge and not my own experience. But a person learns everyday
  6. Wow a lot of replies. In short the fish were healthy looking when I put them in the quarantine tank, they were young mollies, so I did not expect them to be super fat like some guppies are. One thing I must say is too Scottie. Hollywoods did all good. They gave me the right medicine. All my other fish is still alive, even two little cherriebarbs that were also so skinny they could not swim in the filter current. Its just that my bristlenose boy was too far gone and I think it weakened him too much. I am forever thankful for Hollywoods and would recommend them to everyone who wants to buy fish
  7. A while back I bought some Mollies from animates Botany and after putting them in quarantine for two weeks I was happy to let them into my main tank. They were in there for a week and then died. They were extremely thin and looked like they died of starvation. I was very upset about it and went to Animates Botany to find out if they might know what could have possibly caused this, as I have tested my water and it was all good. When I got there the first thing I noticed was the Molly tank being under quarantine. I was told they were all ill and were being treated from the day before. I was shocked and scared at the same time, cause now I knew whatever killed the Mollies has been exposed to my main tank. I asked for advice and were told to treat the whole tank with Furan 2, I was also told that it would deffinetly sort the problem immidiately. I did that but still my fish died. I lost 5 Zebra Danio's, several guppy fry and 4 Cherrie barbs. I was very concerened cause I had my chocolate zebras in there and my fish I loved most, my priced beautiful bristlenose boy. The fish kept on dying and I got upset cause I completed the course of furan2 and was expecting them to get better. Then I saw my big boy sick, his little tummy was concaved he looked horrible, I rushed into Botany and they said just treat with Milafix and Primafix both together. They said I would have to up the oxygen so It meant that I had to buy airstones and pumps for my main tank, which I did. I felt very uneasy about the advice and gave Hollywoods a ring, they immidiately told me it sounds like worms or internal bacteria and that I would need special medicine for it. I drove to them and got it. I treated my main tank and also the quarantine one who had my big bristlenose boy in it. He looked like death itself, I never thought he would make it, but I managed to get a nice rounded tummy on him again and placed him back into the main tank. Everything went well, until this morning I found him dead. I guess the illness just took too much out of him and he was just too weak. That is why I am writing you all, I kept quiet till then, but Now I am beyond upset. I can't believe that it happened, me being a newbie and not knowing much would expect a petshop person to be able to give me the right information and be able to know that they are selling sick fish. You know, thinking about it now, everytime I went there, there was either sick fish or dead fish in a tank I was viewing, should have seen the warning lights there allready
  8. LOL I don't know much about snails, but just the name assassin would probably be a dead give away for a No
  9. Were your fish very skinny when they died. I bought fish from animates and had huge loss after mollies had internal bacteria or worms. I had them in quarantine for two weeks but the third week in my main tank they died and so did others follow. They were extremely thin. I got some medicine from Hollywoods and now my tank is going great So if they are very thin just consider that as a possiblility. Otherwise listen to the other members advice, I am just a newbie in this hobby
  10. 8) wow that is amazing. This would be a winner for any pic competition
  11. My thoughts exactly. I long to own some clown loaches but my tank which is 1m long is not good enough so that is deffinetly not right for him/her Also the Penguin fish (forgot its real name sorry) would much rather be in a school
  12. I tried brocoli, they did not like it, they loved pumpkin and totally disliked carrots too  Seems like I have fish like my kids, they don't like veggies much too
  13. I was waiting for him to fly off. He must be superglued on
  14. Since I saw you all get excited about the lego tanks, I thought I would share this interesting little link with you. I would love to get myself a printer like this, just to sit and watch it all day Lego Printer
  15. I feed my chocolate zebras Nurtrafin max freeze dried tablets and Jbl Novo tab. My bristlenoses get Hikari algae wafers and I have seen them munch on the Nutrafin max tablets. But they love their zuchini and now pumpkin. Where would I get the prawn, would love to treat my choccies for once
  16. wow thanks for the info. How often do you feed your fish veggies, and how long would I leave oranges in there?
  17. raw, they munced it until just strings were left
  18. I love giving my fish zuchini. I have two bristlenoses and two chocolate zebra's. then some school fish but only the swordtail fry seem to like the veggies. I picked up some Guppies from a fellow member and saw her giving pumpkin so I gave my little guys some pumpkin and boy did they enjoy it, it was devoured faster than the zuchini So now I am wondering what else I could offer them, and how often, should it be a treat or can it be part of their food allowance.
  19. Thanks I just can't believe how fast she is growing up, too fast for me
  20. I changed my desktop, cause my baby girl is now 6 and its huge for me
  21. awwww *insert lovely heart smiley here* they are addorable. I just love babies
  22. Thanks for that Never knew what it meant. They are doing a great job, I love gardening without fear of a snake attacking me. I can't tell you how many times I nearly got bit by snakes while gardening in South Africa. Ooh and not being scared you are gonna get chowed down by a leopard, I have done my fare share of sprinting when we went to our timeshare in the mountains LOL
  23. or mice and rats, those little rodents are a big thread
  24. I had a little russian hamster in South Africa and she was so cute. I had her from baby and she died a gray old little hamster. She had a record lifespan of six years, never even knew they could live that long So I wanted to get one for my daughter and the petshop did not even know what they were, I was very suprised. So what exactly does biosecurity mean. Is it illness or something like that?
