  1. +1 is he not bored or something. Does he have fishy friends?
  2. +1 I agree with Adrienne, some people have success with more than two, but others find that like Adrienne, two are happier together so any extras become a yummy midnight snack. These little guys do look absolutely addorable and tame, but believe me they are vicious little killers. I have heard of them eating and nibbling away on fish ten times their size, so don't mess with them, dinamite comes in small packages. Here mine are pretending to be cute
  3. Oto information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otocinclus My otto lasted one day in my tank, the next morning he was gone, not a trace of him. Dwarf puffers are deffinetly a specie only fish, I would not put any fish with them especailly bristlenoses. No salt, they are completely freshwater fish. Your 40 litre would be a mansion for two little dwarf pufferfish
  4. a inflated puffer is bad. They are not supposed to puff, just because they are called pufferfish does not mean they must puff. A puffer fish that puffed and is unable to deflate itself will die. So please explain to us whether he is puffed or not. I have heard of many cases of puffers puffing and not being unalble to deflate, its not good. Puffers usually puff up a little during the time they try to get the attention of each other when sexually mature, but for others reasons and huge puffing its not good. What temp do you keep them at, mine is at 26 degrees and I found that on hot days if the temp raised higher they would go low down in the tank and hide in a cave. Your puffer sounds stressed, where is the tank is it where there is too much movement, how is your water, is that all good. You will need to give us much more details please
  5. I have two dwarfpuffers in a blueplanet 20 litre. They are very happy, my tank has a little cave and some plants here and there. I feed them bloodworms soaked in garlic guard every second night. I handfeed it with an aquarium tweezer. The garlic guard is to help prevent intestinal problems which is the main cause of puffer deaths. They have a light in their tank that is on from 9am to 7pm. Algae is a bit of a problem as they attack and eat anything else I put in the tank including ottos which is apparently the only fish they are compatable with. Although small they are extrememly vicious even with their cute googly eyes. I give them some red ramshorn snails every now and then as a treat as well. They never last long enough to eat even a bit of algae LOL. If you ever need any advice just ask and I would love to help out, I have had mine for a year now Just to add, I do a almost 50% waterchange once a week, filter maintanance once a month and carbon changes every 3 months. 6. Aww, so sad to hear of her passing, she was a very lucky clown loach to have such a good mom. I mean she lived up to the good old age of 28 years and 7 months. You gave her an amazing life and she loved you for it. Sweetsymum I made you this *edited to correct age*
  7. don't feel bad zeebee, we all were beginners some time ago and made the same mistakes. Its just important to learn from them and who knows a few years from now you will be advicing someone with the exact same problem
  8. I usually put my veggie in at night before my bedtime and take it out in the morning when I wake, for your one bristlenose Ira is spot on, just a wee slice will be enough for him/her. If you leave zucchini in for longer than a day it tends to cloudy up your tank water. Best of luck for you, and your bristlenose
  9. Since you feed your other fish flakes I suggest doing this until your other tank is ready. Feed your fish and wait for them to finish eating their flakes and once they are done, switch your tank lights off (at night) and then wait a few minutes and drop the wafer in. I really suggest getting hikari in the future. I feed my bristles some zucchini right from the shop, just rinsed and chopped in half, no blanching nothing. They also seem to like pumpkin very much, do exactly the same no blanching just rinse and weighing down with a fork stuck in if you don't have anything fancy.
  10. My appologies, I noticed the snails when I knew what they were, what algae wafer are you using, I suggest hikari algae wafer, it does not break up to quickly and has lots of good nutrients to others. (in my opinion) What do you feed your other fish?
  11. Will it be the six o clock news Donna?
  12. Your bristlenose is acting that way for a few reasons. No bogwood to munch on (need that for digestion) no hiding spots or caves I would also suggest you feed the fish a lot less, there is too much food. He is going pschyco to protect the food too, so I would suggest that you put a piece of food tablet on the one side of the tank, wait for him to start munching and then put another one on the other side of the tank. He will need some greens, I could not see an algae wafer or veggie for him, that would calm him down too as the others won't try and steal that from his since they eat the other foods. And I think he is a she, I can't see any obvious bristles, but he might still be too young, can't judge his size from the video ps after watching the video a second time, I sort of judged the size of your tank and will not suggest you have another bristlenose in there as well, they get up to 15cm and have quite big terrotiries (sp) so your tank is a bit on the small side for floor terrotiry (sp)
  13. Changed mine again, since Christmas has passed now LOL
  14. Yes my hubby scooped them out, I gave them to my neighbour she has a goldfish pond, did not know they could nibble away on it so fast LOL. I have a few floating about, but even my fish is taking those ones out, so soon there will be none I really loved the look of them, but I love tending to my fishtanks too, and not doing my own waterchanges or feeding my beloved little zombie is no fun
  15. Much better. I only have a few little bumps but they are not red so not that obvious, thank goodness no vaccinations, the cream helped :happy2:
  16. I use the Midnight gravel, its great, brings the colour out of your fish and is easy to gravel vac too. I bought it from here, I think I bought 25kg if I remember correctly http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/fish/stones-pebbles/auction-439632805.htm Here is a pic of what it looks like in my tank
  17. Hi there, I know there is many of you out there without religion or different to mine, but I want to ask you all to just pray for my aunt (godmother) or if you have no religion just think good healing thoughts for her. She was diagnosed with liver cancer when I was six months pregnant with my now seven year old daughter. She managed to do well because once a year she had a very painful procedure done where they would "microwave" her liver. For the last four years she was in remission and we were all so happy. But she has been hospitalised now and they think her cancer has returned to either her kidneys or bowl, both are bad because they don't heal themselfs like the liver does. She is almost completely transparent with skin colour because the cancer attacks her red blood cells. I just want as many prayers, good thoughts or anything to go out to her please :tears:
